Precision That Lasts: UWT Level Sensors Prove 35-Year Durability
After three decades in continuous operation, a recent site inspection of five plastic granule silos revealed that UWT’s level sensors, manufactured in 1990, still provide flawless measurement signals for the plastics industry. Solving Inefficiency in Granule Storage Management At an industrial facility with 9-meter silos for plastic granules, operators struggled with unreliable level data for years. This lack of transparency forced reactive ordering rather than strategic planning, leading to increased costs and wasted effort during periods of fluctuating plastic prices. Accurate data isn’t just a technical requirement; it’s a financial necessity for modern supply chain management. A Surprising Discovery of 1990s Engineering A technical audit by UWT’s service team revealed that the silos were equipped with SLS 100 mechanical plumb bob systems; the direct predecessor to the current NivoBob series. These units, manufactured on February 13, 1990, had survived over 35 years of continuous industrial use. The discovery underscores a technical design so robust that it remains functional well beyond typical industry life cycles. Root Cause Analysis Vindicates Sensor Performance The technical

Hygienic Level Control: UWT Optimizes Ice Cream Production
To ensure premium quality in ice cream production, raw milk must be handled with extreme care. UWT’s advanced radar and vibration sensors provide the precision and hygiene needed to master complex dairy processing environments. Navigating the Complexities of Dairy Processing Ice cream is one of the world’s favorite foods. At the start of production, raw milk must be stored under strictly controlled hygienic conditions. Reliable level measurement plays a key role in ensuring smooth processes, enabling efficient cleaning cycles, and allowing flexible integration into dairy applications. In a typical ice cream production plant, raw milk is temporarily held in an agitated vessel before further processing. At the same time, challenges such as agitators, confined installation conditions in outlet pipes, and regular CIP/SIP cleaning cycles must be addressed. Process Challenges * High hygiene requirements for raw milk handling * Frequent cleaning with chemically demanding CIP/SIP processes * Agitators influencing the product surface * Limited installation space in outlet piping Radar and Vibration Technology Combined For continuous level monitoring, a NivoRadar® NR 8400 is installed

Vortex boosts durability in large-scale soybean handling
Vortex Global has delivered a custom-engineered solution for a major grain processor, addressing abrasion, uptime and maintenance challenges in continuous, high-capacity soybean handling operations. Engineering for abrasion in soybean processing Large-scale soybean handling exposes equipment to constant wear from seed and meal flowing at high volumes. Although individual particles are small, cumulative impact and friction at transfer points can rapidly degrade conventional components, driving downtime and maintenance costs. Vortex Global was engaged to design a gravity-flow solution capable of sustaining long-term operation in a demanding agricultural environment. The objective was to protect critical infrastructure while supporting the throughput required by modern soybean processing lines. Custom heavy-duty diverters for high throughput The project centered on the installation of two pivoting chute diverters engineered specifically for this application. With a nominal size of 1000 mm, the units were designed to manage large material volumes while maintaining structural rigidity and precise flow control. Key design priorities included long service life,

How RF Technology Works
RF Technology Decoded by UWT – How Electrical Signals Deliver Reliable Level Detection RF technology (Radio Frequency Capacitance) uses high-frequency measurement for precise level detection. Unlike purely capacitive sensors, it detects not only changes in capacitance but also the specific resistance of the medium. This ensures reliable measurement even under challenging conditions. How does RF technology work? The principle is based on an electrical voltage divider. Together with the medium, the probe forms a measuring system that detects both capacitance and impedance. Impedance describes the total electrical resistance a medium presents to an alternating current. It indicates how strongly a material reacts to electrical signals – and this change is exactly what RF technology uses for reliable detection. When the material comes into contact with the electrode, the capacitance increases abruptly – a clear signal that the level has been reached. The longer the active electrode, the more sensitively the probe responds. This allows the measurement

Processing meets Packaging: The power pairing with impact
Three days full of inspiration, innovation and interaction at PowTech TechnoPharm and FachPack. For the duration, the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg became a city of 72,000 people united by a single mission: to drive forward their companies, ideas and industries and lead them into the future. PowTech TechnoPharm and its rich supporting programme ensured first-hand practical knowledge for the community. Once again this year the exhibition offered a special highlight: ParTec, the renowned international scientific congress, with about 500 participants and high-calibre lectures on particle technology. The new chair for the forthcoming ParTec 2028 will be Professor Urs Peuker of the Institute for Mechanical Process Engineering and Mineral Processing at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. “PowTech TechnoPharm and ParTec have once again underscored their key role as the central platform for processing and particle technology and sent out a positive signal: PowTech TechnoPharm is a place of stability, trust, and long-term viability,” says Marianny Eisenhofer, Director PowTech
