VEGA sensors are heading into the future with RFID tags
To make it possible to identify a sensor at any time and in any place, even if its type label is damaged or faded VEGA is making RFID tags available for its sensors Scratches, dents or worn areas: After years of reliable performance under diverse environmental conditions and temperatures, even a level sensor shows its age. To make it possible to identify a sensor at any time and in any place, even if its type label is damaged or faded, and trace it using every digit of the serial number, VEGA is making RFID tags available for its sensors, initially for those of the PRO series. RFID Tags RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is not new, but it is now probably the most advanced way of identifying sensors in industrial facilities. RFID tags contain a microchip that stores information. Because their robust chips make them contactlessly readable for many years, despite wind and weather, rapid temperature changes or exposure to sunlight, they are far superior to other labelling techniques. “They are an ideal addition to stamped tags or barcodes, especially for outdoor installations,” says Stefan Kaspar, VEGA product manager.

UWT implements level measurement for demanding processes
UWT GmbH has successfully completed a challenging project at one of the largest cement plants in Kazakhstan. The plant operator required a solution for a reliable continuous measurement process in the cement silo. Dusty and particularly harsh conditions prevail in the building materials industry, in quarries or in mining. High demands are placed on level measuring devices - solid sensor technology with uncompromising robustness and unrestricted reliability are therefore of the utmost importance. The significant challenges in this project lay in the extreme environment - characterised by high dust formation, lump formation, and high process temperatures. In addition, the installation of the sensor required it to be mounted on an existing, high set nozzle. Electromechanical lot system The NivoBob® electromechanical lot sensor was successfully used for permanent level measurement within the silo. The UWT lot system was the first choice for this, as it can be adapted to specific installation requirements thanks to its modular design and its wide range of configuration options. At the Kazakh plant, the tape version of the NivoBob® - NB 3200 was used as the resilient solution,

No-Entry silo cleaning in the chemical industry: A case study Silo cleaning without entry? A sustainable choice and BUCHEN-ICS explains why
No-Entry silo cleaning in the chemical industry: A case study
Silo cleaning without entry? A sustainable choice and BUCHEN-ICS explains why Silos used to store bulk materials such as coal, fertilizer, gypsum, cement, animal feed, or grain are prone to deposits and clumping. These deposits reduce material flow and can render the silo unusable. This issue also affected a German chemical company that stored fire extinguishing agents in a 42m³ silo. The goal was to clean the silo without entry by cleaning personnel and without using water, as the product was intended for resale. Our Approach to Silo Cleaning: Our team arrives at the site with our own equipment. No scaffolding is required, only a 32A power connection. Our aim is to make the preparation for silo operator teams as simple and transparent as possible, in the following steps: # Drilling Material Bridges; First, material bridges are drilled using the BinDrill® system to create an initial flow channel through the hardened material. # Crushing the Material; After creating a flow channel, the BinWhip® system is used. This system breaks up the

Innovative bucket elevator for sand and gravel
Muller Beltex was asked to inspect and improve a bucket elevator that has reached end of life. For maximum reliability and efficiency a new elevator was designed and installed. Ready Beton has three concrete plants in Belgium and is part of the de Hoop Group Terneuzen. Headquartered in Antwerp, they produce 250,000 m3 tonnes of concrete per year in Belgium. In one of Ready Beton’s Belgian concrete plants, a bucket elevator is used to transport the raw materials. This very important piece of equipment was experiencing more and more unplanned downtime as the bucket elevator had reached the end of its life cycle. End of the elevator’s service life When the first signs showed that the elevator was becoming less reliable, Muller Beltex was asked to get the plant up and running again. After a comprehensive inspection, we realised that the bucket elevator housing was starting to rust in several places. The reason for this was that the conveyed product had a high salt content and the discharge plate was badly worn. The deflection roller had also reached the end of its service life. Temporary improvement To bridge the gap until a new bucket

Quality pays off: 12 months of uninterrupted process operation
UWT’s rotary paddle level switch ensures a reliable process in peanut butter production: UWT’s RN6004 eliminates frequent sensor failures and reduces downtime and costs One of the world’s largest peanut butter companies, with a production plant in Kentucky, was having issues with their level measurement sensors installed in the production area of their plant. To solve the problem, the Rotonivo® rotary paddle sensor was introduced, which significantly improved operational efficiency and reduced plant downtime. Once again, UWT has demonstrated its experience and commitment to providing innovative solutions to the industry. Malfunctions and high costs At their production plant in Kentucky, the peanut butter manufacturer had been dealing with constant problems with their measurement sensors. The rotary paddle sensors by another brand that they had previously installed had a very short life span, often failing within a day. Eliminating high levels of downtime The main problem that was causing the sensor to break down was salt and sugar build-up around the probe shaft, which the motor was unable to remove. At the same time, these

Monitoring of the volume flow in an evaporative cooler
Almost every cement plant needs an evaporative cooler to cool the exhaust gases for the cleaning process. To save energy, the volume flow is being measured. APPLICATION Almost every cement plant needs an evaporative cooler to cool the exhaust gases for the cleaning process. In order to operate the evaporation cooler with maximum efficiency, a stable volume flow is required. Monitoring the volume flow also leads to energy savings, as external air supply units can be adapted (throttled) to the existing volume flow. Due to the difficult process parameters, it is impossible to use differential pressure measurements on the evaporative cooler. Optical measuring devices also quickly reach their limits here due to the high dust load. Until today, the air velocities are either not controlled at all or are controlled with the help of an optical measuring device. In many places, the fans are also run permanently at high load, which brings with it a huge potential savings. PROCESS DATA * Dust load: 5-10 g/m³ * Diameter: 3600 mm * Process temperature: 250 °C – 500 °C SOLUTION The AirFlow P high temperature version

Improved coffee roasting efficiency PROBAT is a manufacturer of coffee roasting equipment and wants to control the volume flow to ensure high roaster efficiency through optimal energy transfer.
Improved coffee roasting efficiency
PROBAT is a manufacturer of coffee roasting equipment and wants to control the volume flow to ensure high roaster efficiency through optimal energy transfer. APPLICATION PROBAT is a manufacturer of coffee roasting equipment. PROBAT’s roasters are operated according to a special procedure to make the roasting process as efficient as possible. This procedure enables PROBAT to use a large part of the hot air generated to support the process and thus save energy. The company saves money through lower energy costs while maintaining the same product quality. In order to be able to operate these roasters in an energy-efficient manner, it is important to know which air volume flows through the roaster. Depending on the type of coffee and roasting profile, different volume flows may be required. A correctly set and controlled volume flow ensures high roaster efficiency through optimal energy transfer to the coffee bean. If the volume flow is set incorrectly, the energy transfer to the bean would have to be adjusted via the temperature of the roasting gas, which would have a significant impact on the roaster’s efficiency.
