Wear protection is environmental protection. We help our customers to operate sustainably.

Kalenborn develops and manufactures custom-fit linings for the protection of industrial plants against abrasion and impact wear. With our wear-resistant materials and pipe systems and wear protection for industrial plants, we secure the flow of materials and protect our customers’ production from premature downtimes.

We use special processes for lining so that our customers can reuse their plant components. This saves resources in steel construction and reduces CO2 emissions to protect the environment.

We act sustainably across the entire value chain. We use environmentally friendly energies in the manufacture of our products and, with basalt and ceramics, rely on natural materials that can be regenerated.

Rotary distributor rotates longer with Kalocer
Kalenborn manufactured a rotary distributor for slag sand and lined it with Kalocer to protect it against wear. The rotary distributor is a plant component in the steel industry and is used for slag sand processing. The slag sand mixture is fed through an S-bend into the rotary distributor, which directs the slag sand mixture into the dewatering silos below. Kalenborn lined the S-bend and rotary distributor with Kalocer aluminium oxide ceramic. The ceramic moulded parts could be adapted particularly well to the demanding geometry of the rotary distributor. Kalocer protects the system parts from the extreme friction wear of the slag-sand mixture, and the smooth surfaces of the ceramic promote the transport of the slag mixture. The old rotary distributor was Kalenborn’s original equipment and had been in successful use for over 20 years. Kalenborn ensured its long service life with regular maintenance of the wear protection. As part of the relining of the blast furnace, the order for the new rotary distributor was placed. This included the production of the steel part as

Kalenborn’s wear-resistant separators
The cyclones supplied by Kalenborn have an excellent service life against wear thanks to their lining with KALMETALL chromium carbide plates and matching KALOCER aluminum oxide ceramic fittings. Separators are of great importance in many branches of industry. One of the most important steps in the manufacturing process in the food, energy, metallurgy and recycling industries is the separation of bulk materials. Their intensive use means that entire systems or individual elements wear out quickly. The cyclones supplied by Kalenborn have an excellent service life against wear thanks to their lining with KALMETALL chromium carbide plates and matching KALOCER aluminum oxide ceramic fittings. The combination of materials makes these system components resistant not only to abrasion, but also to corrosion and chemical influences.

Protection of screw conveyors in the recycling sector
Good wear protection is important because the materials are often abrasive. Conveyor screws play an important role in various recycling processes and offer efficient solutions for transporting and handling materials. Good wear protection is important because the materials are often abrasive. The selection of wear-resistant materials depends on various factors, such as the material being conveyed, grain size and conveying speed. Our KALOCER aluminum oxide ceramic is often used. It protects against extreme abrasive wear, promotes sliding and is characterized by a very high operating temperature. It is also corrosion-resistant and can be manufactured precisely in thin walls for a weight-saving overall lining. KALMETALL hardfacing welding is extremely impact and abrasion resistant and is used to produce long-lasting conveyor screws. Kalenborn uses the wear-resistant material to manufacture the screw flights and the shaft. The variety of our own wear-resistant materials enables us to produce the right lining for every requirement.

No wear in the suction channel Sinter dust
Optimum extraction of sinter dust in the suction duct; abrasion protection and lowest possible volumes of false air. In pig iron production, steel mills and foundries, emissions are generated at many points, including sinter dust, which must be reliably collected and filtered. In addition to intensive filtration, the focus is on efficiency: the emissions must be extracted optimally with the lowest possible volumes of false air. Sinter dust, for example, causes abrasion and damages the suction duct in sinter plants. Kalenborn has lined the duct with the aluminum oxide ceramic KALOCER, which protects against extreme abrasion. The lining ensures a uniform volume flow in the duct and provides a longer service life for the plant component.

KALOCER protects screw conveyor from abrasion
KALOCER was a proven solution for wear protection. As it can be produced in very thin shapes, the screw conveyor could be lined with precisely shaped parts for all-round edge protection. At the largest copper mine in Europe, ore is transported for processing by means of a screw conveyor. The high silicon content in the rock causes serious abrasive wear to the spiral vanes and edges, which leads to frequent repairs bringing high costs and process downtime. Thanks to good experiences they have had up to now with the wear-proof KALOCER material in outflow hoppers, hydrocyclones and chutes, the company decided to line the screw conveyor vanes and edges with similar KALOCER oxide ceramic. The key improvement over the previously unprotected conveyor is the all-round edge protection, since this is where the worst wear occurs, to the extent that the functionality of the conveyor itself is impaired. One other essential benefit of KALOCER is the capability to manufacture it into very thin shaped forms. This meant the screw conveyor vanes and edges could be lined with accurately shaped pieces, which were also optimised for weight. The shaped pieces were bedded

Everything runs smoothly in mixed operation
Everything runs smoothly in mixed operation
Every mixing and stirring process puts continuous wear on the equipment used. This applies to manufacturers of building materials, asphalt and concrete as well as to the glass industry. Normal steel is not suitable for a mixer in the glass industry if the batch is mixed with glass fragments. It therefore makes sense to line the mixers with materials to protect them from wear. For mixers of all types, Kalenborn uses combinations of materials that are matched to each other depending on the stresses on the side wall, base and mixing tools. For a customer from the glass industry, we lined the mixers and slide valves with fittings made of the aluminum-oxide ceramic KALOCER. The fittings are already available with thin wall thicknesses from 1.5 mm, so that they can be adapted to geometrically difficult surfaces. KALOCER protects particularly well against extreme abrasion and is easy to clean due to its smooth surfaces. The lining meets the customer’s requirements
