Rotary distributor rotates longer with Kalocer

Kalenborn manufactured a rotary distributor for slag sand and lined it with Kalocer to protect it against wear.
The rotary distributor is a plant component in the steel industry and is used for slag sand processing. The slag sand mixture is fed through an S-bend into the rotary distributor, which directs the slag sand mixture into the dewatering silos below.

Kalenborn lined the S-bend and rotary distributor with Kalocer aluminium oxide ceramic. The ceramic moulded parts could be adapted particularly well to the demanding geometry of the rotary distributor. Kalocer protects the system parts from the extreme friction wear of the slag-sand mixture, and the smooth surfaces of the ceramic promote the transport of the slag mixture.

The old rotary distributor was Kalenborn’s original equipment and had been in successful use for over 20 years. Kalenborn ensured its long service life with regular maintenance of the wear protection. As part of the relining of the blast furnace, the order for the new rotary distributor was placed. This included the production of the steel part as well as the delivery and installation of the developed Kalocer lining. The wear protection design could thus be perfectly adapted to the rotary distributor manufactured in-house to ensure trouble-free operation for years to come.

In the slag pelletising area, Kalenborn also manufactured all the inlet and outlet pipes to the rotary distributor and protected them with Kalocer and the zirconium corundum ceramic KALCOR. Our fitters also relined the inlet pipe in the pelletising tower with Kalocer during a shutdown. The customer praised the precision fit of the rotary distributor and the installation team, who were always on hand to help.

Kalenborn’s wear-resistant separators
The cyclones supplied by Kalenborn have an excellent service life against wear thanks to their lining with KALMETALL chromium carbide plates and matching KALOCER aluminum oxide ceramic fittings. Separators are of great importance in many branches of industry. One of the most important steps in the manufacturing process in the food, energy, metallurgy and recycling industries is the separation of bulk materials. Their intensive use means that entire systems or individual elements wear out quickly. The cyclones supplied by Kalenborn have an excellent service life against wear thanks to their lining with KALMETALL chromium carbide plates and matching KALOCER aluminum oxide ceramic fittings. The combination of materials makes these system components resistant not only to abrasion, but also to corrosion and chemical influences.

No wear in the suction channel Sinter dust
Optimum extraction of sinter dust in the suction duct; abrasion protection and lowest possible volumes of false air. In pig iron production, steel mills and foundries, emissions are generated at many points, including sinter dust, which must be reliably collected and filtered. In addition to intensive filtration, the focus is on efficiency: the emissions must be extracted optimally with the lowest possible volumes of false air. Sinter dust, for example, causes abrasion and damages the suction duct in sinter plants. Kalenborn has lined the duct with the aluminum oxide ceramic KALOCER, which protects against extreme abrasion. The lining ensures a uniform volume flow in the duct and provides a longer service life for the plant component.

KALOCER protects screw conveyor from abrasion
KALOCER was a proven solution for wear protection. As it can be produced in very thin shapes, the screw conveyor could be lined with precisely shaped parts for all-round edge protection. At the largest copper mine in Europe, ore is transported for processing by means of a screw conveyor. The high silicon content in the rock causes serious abrasive wear to the spiral vanes and edges, which leads to frequent repairs bringing high costs and process downtime. Thanks to good experiences they have had up to now with the wear-proof KALOCER material in outflow hoppers, hydrocyclones and chutes, the company decided to line the screw conveyor vanes and edges with similar KALOCER oxide ceramic. The key improvement over the previously unprotected conveyor is the all-round edge protection, since this is where the worst wear occurs, to the extent that the functionality of the conveyor itself is impaired. One other essential benefit of KALOCER is the capability to manufacture it into very thin shaped forms. This meant the screw conveyor vanes and edges could be lined with accurately shaped pieces, which were also optimised for weight. The shaped pieces were bedded

KALDETECT wear protection monitoring
For critical applications, Kalenborn markets systems that indicate the possible wear of protective linings, thereby informing the operator in time to take necessary action. This applies to pneumatic conveyor systems, for example, where measures must be taken to prevent the release of toxic or environmentally harmful substances. KALDETECT electrical The exterior of the wear protection lining is equipped with a low-voltage measuring conductor. If the wear protection layer inside the piping wears through due to abrasion at any point, the conductor will be interrupted there. This triggers an alarm and – in combination with suitable evaluation logic – indicates the affected section of piping or automatically shuts the plant down. Wear protection monitoring is available for all materials and even for combined linings. KALDETECT electric is a good prerequisite for the smooth replacement of the wear protection lining in green pipes. KALDETECT mechanical Support structure and wear protection lining are fitted with a removable pin installed in a threaded hole. Upon removal, the length of the pin indicates the thickness and condition

Green pipes with replaceable wear protection lining
Green pipes are wear resistant pipes where the worn cylinder can be replaced without the need for a new steel shell. Green pipes and pipe bends have a wear-resistant lining that can be removed and recycled at the end of their service life. The wear-resistant lining’s special mounting concept makes it possible to remove the old lining without destroying the steel shell. The existing steel pipes are subsequently relined with new material cylinders. The method used gives the lining the same service life as conventionally lined pipes and pipe bends. Returning the worn pipes and pipe bends to Kalenborn eliminates disposal costs and no expenses are incurred to manufacture new steel pipes. Companies reduce their CO2 load on the environment. With fused cast basalt and ceramics, Kalenborn relies on natural materials that are renewable. After the worn lining has been removed, its materials are recycled and fed back into the process for manufacturing new wear-resistant materials. Green pipes and pipe bends are available as product variants: * ABRESIST fused cast basalt pipes
