Silos used to store bulk materials such as coal, fertilizer, gypsum, cement, animal feed, or grain are prone to deposits and clumping. These deposits reduce material flow and can render the silo unusable. This issue also affected a German chemical company that stored fire extinguishing agents in a 42m³ silo. The goal was to clean the silo without entry by cleaning personnel and without using water, as the product was intended for resale.
Our Approach to Silo Cleaning:
Our team arrives at the site with our own equipment. No scaffolding is required, only a 32A power connection. Our aim is to make the preparation for silo operator teams as simple and transparent as possible, in the following steps:
- Drilling Material Bridges; First, material bridges are drilled using the BinDrill® system to create an initial flow channel through the hardened material.
- Crushing the Material; After creating a flow channel, the BinWhip® system is used. This system breaks up the hardened material in its dry state. The silo is then cleaned from the inside with soft, rubberized inserts to avoid scratching the surface.
- Vacuuming and Packaging the Material; Simultaneously, we use the latest equipment to vacuum the crushed material in an environmentally friendly manner. The material is then packed into Big Bags or other suitable containers, as in this specific case.
Sustainable benefits of our method:
- No Contamination of the Product: The product remains clean and can be resold.
- Maximum Safety for Personnel: No entry by cleaning personnel is required.
- Significantly Reduced Cleaning Time: The cleaning is completed in a few days instead of several weeks or months.
