Water filter cartridges consist among others out of ion exchanger and activated carbon particles. To deliver the final mixed product to the filling lines of the filter cartridges several process steps must be passed. The system consisted out of several Big Bag unloading stations for the raw materials, vacuum conveying systems to the gravimetric feeders, a continuous mixer and a dense phase pneumatic conveyor for the mixed product. Gentle and safe transport of toxic NMC powders

Gericke has delivered multiple dense phase pneumatic transport systems for the gentle and safe transport of fine toxic NMC powders used for the battery production. For the production of rechargeable batteries cathode material, typically fine lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) powders are utilized. Continuous dense phase pneumatic conveying with limited height

Twin vessel dense phase conveying is the solution when minimal height is available and when at the same time the product needs to be conveyed gently without any creation of fines. A customer had major issues with a belt conveyor that should transport the instant chocolate drink powder from production to a sieve placed right above the filling lines. The installed belt conveyor contaminated the powder with wear which was not acceptable. Because all upstream equipment was already installed, less than 1 m below a discharge rotary valve was available. A lean phase pneumatic conveying system with negative or positive pressure would have been possible. However, because the powder must be treated very gently minimising the creation of fines during the transport, a low velocity dense phase conveying system Gericke PulseFlow PTA with two vessels was selected. Gericke RotaVal EHDM rotary valve designed for abrasive powders

Rotary valves operate under various conditions. They feed, convey or isolate powders of the most different characteristics. In the construction chemical, environmental or mineral industry they handle specific abrasive products like glass cullet, carbon, cement, dolomite, quartz and more. They are exposed to important effects of abrasion. The wear of the rotor but also of the body happens even if the rotary valves are made of hardened materials and alloys. Wear resistant cone valve for dense phase pneumatic conveying of abrasive materials The biggest advantages of dense phase pneumatic conveying systems compared to dilute phase systems are that slow conveying speeds, large conveying distances, high solids loadings and thus high capacities are possible. With minimizing the speed for example the effect of wear and attrition can be reduced to a large extent. However, for dense phase systems a higher pressure gradient must be available and therefore it is vital to have a pressure tight conveying system without any leakage. Gericke"s Powder Handling and Processing Seminar

Great interest in the Powder Handling and Processing Seminar of Gericke The acquisition of systematic knowledge of particle properties and bulk material behaviour is a big topic in the research and practice. We would like to operate on the design of machines and equipment for bulk processes with scientific knowledge rather than empirical estimates. This topic was a focus on the very well-attended Gericke Bulk Seminar in Regensdorf, Switzerland. The numerous attendees from Europe and overseas followed all presentations and test units with great interest. Gericke has presented a device for measuring particle properties made by Freeman Technology. It provides within a short time a statement on the flow behaviour, the shear forces, fluidizing characteristics and other product data. Hybrid Loss-in-Weight DIWE-200 Feeder

Vibrations occur above all in production plants and can generate many different types of horizontal and vertical oscillations in a large variety of frequency ranges caused by the drives of the integrated machines. The metering result is influenced decisively by the vibration severity measured in the form of acceleration of the vibrations. “How well do the weigh feeders compensate defined intensities of vibration?” Research carried out by the University of Applied Sciences Constance showed that an acceleration of vibration of up to 0.5 m/s² did not affect the metering accuracy of the Gericke hybrid weighing technology. It emerged that, especially mechanical damping plays an important role when improving on metering accuracy. Tests made it clear that the reduction of transference of vibrations to the system (as a whole) was not achievable by using heavy weights nor were rubber feet suitable as vibration dampers for significant reduction of the effects of the vibrations.

Continuous pneumatic dense phase conveying with mini-double vessel

Low segregation, low wear, low air and low energy consumption Our dense phase conveying systems with pressure vessels are designed for processes that require gentle conveying, low segregation, low wear, low air and energy consumption. Another advantage when using a dense phase conveying system with pressure vessels rather than a lean phase conveying systems with rotary valves is that no part rotates in the product stream. In lean phase conveying systems, the rotating rotary valve will cause fine metallic attrition when coming in contact with the housing and thereby contaminate the product. Another disadvantage is air leakage. This occurs because of the gap between the rotor and the housing. Due to wear on the rotary valves, the gap gets bigger which leads to increased leakage of air, reduced capacity, to conveying problems and pipe blockages. The company was founded in 1894 in Zurich. Walter H. Gericke, specialist for flour milling processes, offered his engineering services and machines to the flour mill industry. Centrifugal Sifter

On a centrifugal sifter, the bulk material is fed in a controlled flow into the cylindrical basket containing the sieve hose. Fast rotating blades push the product against the sieve and transport the oversize particles in an axial movement towards the oversize outlet. The fine particles pass through the sieve and are forwarded to the next process step. Centrifugal sifters are characterised by high throughput and compact design. A typical through put can vary between some 100 kg/hour and 60 tonnes/hour using an 800 micron mesh. Gericke have been manufacturing centrifugal sifters for more than 50 years. To comply with ATEX regulations, Gericke has undertaken, on all its feeders, a security assessment and got the necessary certificates by notified bodies. Gericke - Continuous mixing processes for pharmaceutical solids

A new kind of micro mixer now makes it possible for continuous solid substance processes to be carried out in the pharmaceutical industry. This increases flexibility in comparison with the traditional batch process, while at the same time reducing the space required. The FDA, the American approval authority for pharmaceutical products, has recently specifically extended their regulations to the continuous mixing process as well. This change is aimed at improving the production process, allow more rapid development and lead to reduced production cost. To meet their requirements of this new mixing process, Gericke have extended their range of GCM continuous mixers for this very small throughput volumes. The GCM 250 is designed with a 1 l chamber volume only that delivers a throughput of 20 - 200 kg / h. The mixer has a cantilevered mixing rotor with a quick release connection. Hypergienic valve, finally a rotary valve for pharmaceutical applications

Rotary valves are used as dosing and shutoff devices. For the employment in pharmaceutical processes and especially in glove boxes, Gericke developed the Hypergienic air-lock. It has a quick-release mechanism, can be dismantled without tools (in the glove box) completely. The gear motor can be attached outside of the insulator. - All surfaces are self-draining for CIP cleaning. - 10 bar pressure-shockproof - Certifies as flame barrier? - Construction and finish following to FDA and GMP guidelines Gericke`s Hypergienic rotary valve is something special and covers exactly the needs of the pharmaceutical processes. Improvement of a production process by controlling the right particle size

Particle size reduction In various reference applications, Gericke Nibblers are used for the preparation of bulk material to ensure a reliable process. Nibbler reduce the size of agglomerates, lumps or hard blocks into the initial particle size without heating up the product. Dust creation is minimal. Nibbler work with low tip speed and can therefore be used for fragile and temperature sensitive products. The Gericke Nibbler is supplied into different ATEX zones. Typically, Nibblers are placed after sack tipping units, container or big bag emptying stations. Used for recycling of non-conform batches they help to reduce the material cost for production. Nibbler screens are available with holes varying from 1,5 up to 25 mm. Larger Nibblers with inlet sections from 300x450 up to 300x800 can be used after filter presses mounted on mobile frames in order to adjust the size of the filter cakes. New! Feeding of bulk material - an elementary function within a powder process

A simple feeding job can disturb a production process or lead to waste product if the engineering of the feeding application has not been done carefully or if the wrong equipment is used. High performance mixer for low headroom!

The demand of toady’s factories for a modern mixer includes high capacity range, easy cleaning and small dimensions to safe space. Gericke’s GMS mixer is equipped with horizontally aligned double shaft rotors and is offering a very interesting ratio of mixer’s volume and required headroom. A 2000 l volume mixer needs less than 1.5 m headroom! The mixing tools create a fluidised bed which allows the particles to move easy and quick in the mixing chamber, without introduction of energy that would destroy the particles. Gericke therefore calls the mixer ‚Multiflux‘ mixer. The typical mixing time is below 1 minute and avoids the breakage of different ingredients like powders and agglomerates.
