Rotary Valves for corrosive atmosphere and abrasive products

Rotary valves are essential components for discharging and conveying bulk solids, isolating pressure differentials, and serving as flame and explosion barriers in hazardous areas. With over fifty years of experience, the UK-based Gericke RotaVal is a leading company in this field. As part of the Gericke group of companies, they combine the expertise of a dedicated rotary valve manufacturer with global experience from numerous successful powder processing and bulk handling installations.

Rotary valves are commonly found in pneumatic conveying systems and can act as safety devices to isolate different process steps, such as airlocks, flame barriers, and explosion propagation valves. They are also used for metering applications, such as loading pneumatic conveying pipelines or filling of FIBCs. Designing and manufacturing rotary valves beyond the commonly used sizes requires specific knowledge and large machining centers. Large rotary valves are utilized for high throughputs or handling oversized and lumpy particles, particularly in the petrochemical and chemical industries.

Using Rotary Valves in Petrochemical Industries

Rotary airlock valves play a critical role in petrochemical industries by providing reliable control over the transfer of bulk solids such as catalysts, resins, polymers, or additives within processing plants. In these environments, maintaining process integrity is essential due to the presence of hazardous materials and strict safety regulations. The robust construction of such airlocks ensures, that they can withstand abrasive or corrosive substances often encountered in petrochemical applications.

In addition to their basic function as metering devices for powders and granules, these valves help maintain pressure differentials between various process zones—such as reactors, storage silos, pneumatic conveying lines, or dust collection systems—thereby preventing unwanted gas leakage that could pose safety risks or lead to product contamination. Their precise operation allows for accurate dosing and consistent feed rates into reactors or mixers.

Furthermore, rotary airlock valves used in petrochemical plants are often designed with features such as explosion-proof motors, high-temperature seals, wear-resistant coatings on their internal surfaces, and easy-clean access for maintenance. These enhancements ensure long-term reliability under demanding conditions typical of petrochemical production facilities. By integrating advanced rotary valve technology into their processes, petrochemical companies can achieve improved operational efficiency while meeting stringent environmental and safety standards. With in-house development and production, Gericke RotaVal has extensive experience manufacturing valves up to sizes of 600 by 1200 mm, often with special coatings.

Gericke Centrifugal Sifter GS: increase product quality, reduce waste
Industrial sifters are used all over the world. They ensure that product qualities are maintained, foreign bodies are removed and safety standards are met. The choice of screen and machine type depends on several factors, including particle size and distribution, product sensitivity, moisture content, ATEX requirements and the desired throughput rate. Two main types of sieves are used for different powder processing requirements: centrifugal sifters and vibrating sieves. Two main types # Centrifugal sifters (also known as rotary sieves) utilise centrifugal force to move particles through a cylindrical sieve. Paddles cause the material to rotate, enabling a gentle screening process with a high throughput rate. An additional advantage is the deagglomeration of materials, which is particularly important for fine powders. These screens are ideal for applications where foreign bodies need to be removed and high product quality needs to be guaranteed at the same time. #

Can pneumatic conveying be gentle and energy efficient?
The Gericke dense phase pneumatic conveying systems are designed to deliver exceptional bulk transport performance while preserving the integrity of sensitive materials. Dense phase pneumatic conveying systems are designed to deliver exceptional bulk transport performance while preserving the integrity of sensitive materials. The Swiss Gericke Group is a leader in this technology, integrating dedicated controllers to simplify integration and optimise the processes while conserving energy. Dense phase conveying systems are designed for applications where product quality is paramount. Whether handling powders, granules, flakes, or pellets, Gericke’s dense phase conveying technology ensures minimal changes in bulk density and particle size distribution, while also reducing the risk of demixing. This makes them ideal for industries requiring gentle handling of fragile or blended materials. A key advantage of the system lies in its use of pressure vessels without rotating parts. This significantly reduces maintenance requirements and eliminates the risk of metal contamination. The systems are completely dust-tight, offering a clean

Chopping with the right shredder or screen
With the latest generation of nibblers, the Gericke GNB, a new release of screens has also been added to the portfolio. Gericke has many years of experience with a wide variety of milling machines and granulators which are sold under the name “nibbler”. Based on this knowledge, Gericke’s experts are able to select shredders or screens according to the customer’s requirements. With the latest generation of nibblers, the Gericke GNB, a new release of screens has also been added to the portfolio. A Gericke nibbler crushes lumps, agglomerates, filter cakes, rework or frozen raw materials into processable grain sizes. The selection of the screen plays a role in efficiency. When crushing brittle products with the aim of keeping the fines content low, different refining inserts are used than for tough, greasy or moist products, which could tend to clog the screen. An output product from a belt dryer, for example, is often brittle and fragile, but also hygroscopic. Many customers aim to minimise the number of fines when shredding the product to achieve a high yield. The screen

Loss-in-Weight Feeders: PLC or Dedicated Control Solutions?
The Gericke Universal Controller GUC-F stands out compared to integrated PLC solutions and other separate weighing electronics. In the realm of bulk handling applications, the choice of feeding and dosing technology is crucial for ensuring efficiency and accuracy. This article explores why the Gericke Universal Controller GUC-F stands out compared to integrated PLC solutions and other separate weighing electronics. The Gericke GUC-F offers a comprehensive approach to feeding and dosing processes. Unlike PLC solutions, which require separate weighing electronics and programming, the GUC-F combines all necessary components into a single package. This integration simplifies the process setup and enhances overall performance. When comparing GUC-F to other solutions, several key differences emerge. GUC-F provides extensive service and support for all types of bulk handling applications, whereas PLC solutions lack a dedicated service team for process, dosing, and feeding issues. Additionally, GUC-F excels in the mechanical integration of feeding, dosing, and weighing technology. Most feeders are
