Conveying solutions for plastic pellets

Low-wear transport of glass fiber reinforced plastic pellets

Innovative pneumatic dense phase conveying from Gericke

The pneumatic conveying of bulk materials through pipes is a proven technology that offers numerous advantages over mechanical systems. These include flexible installation, low space requirements and minimal maintenance. However, conventional dilute phase systems reach their limits, especially when conveying highly abrasive glass fiber reinforced plastic pellets.

In dilute phase conveying, the pellets are transported at high air speeds, which often leads to problems such as the formation of angel hair and severe wear on the pipe bends. Angel hair is caused by friction and heat build-up, which melts the plastic granules. Glass fiber-reinforced pellets with a proportion of 30 to 50 percent also mechanically wear down the pipe material and can lead to leaks.

The solution is provided by Gericke’s PTA® pneumatic dense phase conveying system. Here, a pressure vessel is used as a feeding device, which doses the product into the pipeline and acts a gas-tight valve. Small product plugs are formed in the pipeline, which are gently transported by compressed air at a low speed of less than 10 meters per second. The conveying speed is significantly reduced compared to dilute phase conveying, which minimizes wear. The pressure vessel ensures gas-tight feeding and also enables the conveying of abrasive or sensitive materials. The bulk material is pushed through the pipeline in compact plugs, which increases throughput and minimizes the required air consumption. For conveying distances of more than 100 meters, additional air nozzles can be integrated to ensure process reliability and continuous material flow. Due to the low speeds and gentle conveying, additional wear protection for the pipe bends is usually not necessary.

With Gericke’s dense phase conveying, wear problems in the conveying of glass fiber reinforced plastic pellets are a thing of the past. The technology stands for safety, efficiency and process accuracy and represents a real advance for modern production plants.

Nibbler GNB 250 Deagglomeration and size calibration of bulk solids
The Gericke Nibbler is a coarse grinder and pre-breaker for size reduction in a broad range of industries. It is used for de-agglomeration, granulation, milling, rework and size calibration of lumpy, fibrous, sticky, pasteous or frozen products. Many bulk material processes ask for defined and reproducible particle sizes. Gericke, with many years of experience in the design of equipment for the size reduction and calibrating of bulk materials, offers the advantages of the established GNB series for smaller throughputs in a compact size machine, the Gericke GNB 250 Nibbler. With the GNB 530 Nibbler, Gericke has introduced the option of easily adjusting the distance between the shaft and the screen. This allows the Nibbler to be quickly and flexibly adapted to changing process requirements. In addition to adapting to different screen sizes, the efficiency of a process can also be increased by changing the clearance. The GNB 250 has also integrated the easy replacement of the screen, the large front door opening of the housing and the proven sealing concept from its big brother. Despite its compact size, the GNB 250 achieves high throughput rates and can be installed into existing processes in a space-saving

Rotary Valves for corrosive atmosphere and abrasive products
Rotary Valves for corrosive atmosphere and abrasive products
Rotary valves are essential components for discharging and conveying bulk solids, isolating pressure differentials, and serving as flame and explosion barriers in hazardous areas. With over fifty years of experience, the UK-based Gericke RotaVal is a leading company in this field. As part of the Gericke group of companies, they combine the expertise of a dedicated rotary valve manufacturer with global experience from numerous successful powder processing and bulk handling installations. Rotary valves are commonly found in pneumatic conveying systems and can act as safety devices to isolate different process steps, such as airlocks, flame barriers, and explosion propagation valves. They are also used for metering applications, such as loading pneumatic conveying pipelines or filling of FIBCs. Designing and manufacturing rotary valves beyond the commonly used sizes requires specific knowledge and large machining centers. Large rotary valves are utilized for high throughputs
