Dust Removal in Battery Recycling; Safety, Health and Efficiency
Battery recycling requires dust extraction during crushing, conveying and screening. Infastaub offers enclosed systems with ATEX-compliant filters. With the rapid growth of the battery industry, the topic of battery recycling is also increasingly taking center stage. While large-scale production capacities are still being established, it is already becoming clear that significant quantities of used batteries and production waste will need to be returned to the recycling loop in the coming years. This, in turn, places greater demands on industrial dust collection. Dust is generated in nearly every step of the lithium-ion battery processing chain—whether during shredding, conveying, screening, sorting, or conveyor belt transfers. Graphite and lithium metal oxide dusts, in particular, place high demands on plant engineering and occupational safety. These dry, free-flowing dusts are often flammable, sometimes toxic, and can pose a significant risk of explosion and harm to health. This is where Infastaub GmbH comes in with customized dust collection solutions. The company has nearly 60 years of experience in industrial…

3D Radar Solves Bulk Material Inventory Errors in Factory Yards
3D radar replaces flawed manual yard inventory with precise, real-time volume data, overcoming dust and irregular piles to boost accuracy and efficiency. In 2026, manufacturing profits face tightening pressures from volatile raw material costs, rising labor expenses, and stricter safety rules. Today, saving operational overhead is the most direct way to protect industrial earnings. Unfortunately, the most common area for hidden losses is often out of sight: bulk material warehouses storing coal, mineral powder, cement, or grain. While these materials move in and out daily, tracking true stock levels remains a constant challenge. Traditional manual inventory checks are slow and highly inaccurate, leaving managers with unreliable data. What Causes Bulk Material Inventory Errors in Factory Yards? Accurate stock tracking inside large containment structures requires balancing several volatile physical conditions: * Dense Environmental Dust: High-volume loading creates thick particle clouds that block standard optical or acoustic tracking tools, causing frequent measurement errors. * Highly Irregular Piles: Shifting raw…

Why Every Clay Court Is Born in the Screen Mesh - The Hidden Process
Why the red surface of Roland Garros isn’t sand: how precise screening with RHEWUM technology decides the quality of every tennis court. The red surface of Roland Garros isn’t sand - it’s finely ground brick. And its quality isn’t decided by the groundskeeper, but by the precision of the screening. When Alexander Zverev let himself fall backwards into the red clay of Roland Garros on 7 June 2026, hands covering his face, a long-awaited chapter was written: his first Grand Slam title, claimed in a five-set thriller against Flavio Cobolli - and the first German men’s triumph in Paris since Boris Becker in 1996. A day earlier, on the women’s side, the just 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva had celebrated her own victory. Beyond the sporting drama, one very sensory image stays with us: the controlled slide into the forehand, the swirling red dust cloud, the distinctive smell of damp ash. Anyone who has ever played on ”clay” knows it well. Except it isn’t sand at all. And the character of this surface is determined long before the first serve - in an industrial production process of crushers, conveyor…

For use in industrial weighing systems, WAREX Valve GmbH has developed two particularly lightweight butterfly valves in nominal diameters DN 400 and DN 500. For use in industrial weighing systems, WAREX Valve GmbH has developed two particularly lightweight butterfly valves in nominal diameters DN 400 and DN 500. The custom-designed valves are bulk-material-tight and, including their pneumatic actuators, weigh only 22 and 31 kilograms, respectively. The development began with a customer’s request to reduce the weight of the components used in their weighing system as much as possible. At the same time, the system had to maintain the necessary sealing performance and ensure reliable operation. The aluminum valve disc plays a key role in the lightweight design. In addition, the entire valve assembly was designed for exceptionally smooth operation. The resulting low operating forces allow for the use of a comparatively small and lightweight pneumatic rotary actuator. A Rotork RC240-size actuator is used. In the selected configuration, this compact actuator weighs just 4.9 kilograms and delivers a torque of approximately 300…

Hidden Costs of Manual Stockpile Measurement in Concrete Plants
Manual bulk material inventory in concrete plants incurs hidden costs & safety risks. 3D laser scanning offers real-time, accurate volume measurement for stockyards and storage sheds, enhancing operational safety, efficiency, and data integration. Aggregate, sand, and bulk material batching require reliable inventory counts. Yet many concrete batching plants still rely on manual audits, traversing active storage yards, or dropping weighted lines in storage sheds to estimate remaining volume. These methods create hidden operational costs that quietly eat into plant margins. The Hidden Costs of Manual Stockpile Measurement in Concrete Batching Plants Estimating bulk material in storage sheds and open yards creates ongoing losses across several daily cost centers: ● Direct Labor Hours: Manual measuring requires multiple team members spending hours daily on site audits, consuming valuable labor budget that could support plant maintenance. ● Workplace Injury and Liability Risks: A single slip, trip, or fall on uneven material piles or wet access ladders leads to paid sick leave, medical expenses, and increased workers’ compensation premiums. ● Production Downtime and Bottlenecks: Pausing loader operations or…

Radar provides the level monitoring solution within a UK paper mill
Radar sensor from UWT is the bespoke solution for content measurement Continuous level monitoring devices regulate and control liquid or solid levels in a processing plant, helping to streamline the operation, eliminate human error and thus maximise overall efficiency. And so level control devices should be and are an investment that needs careful research and consideration to ensure that the investment in such kit is wisely made. Our customer, a large paper mill based in the UK, approached UWT UK Ltd to achieve all the above for the monitoring of their coal silo and in a backwater tank. A mechanical system in the coal silo and ultrasonic technology in the backwater tank had both failed leaving the monitoring task being executed manually using a tape measure dropped in through the tops of the silo and tank. Clearly, it was time to upgrade. So the customer approached UWT UK Ltd to visit and inspect the applications and to advise on a long term, reliable solution within budget. Time & consideration During the site visit the UWT UK team spent…

Retrofit Instead of New Build: Münzing Automates Packaging Line
Münzing upgrades an existing BVP packer with a bag placer and conveyor system. The retrofit increases automation, reuses existing infrastructure and achieves an output of 60 bags per hour at a bag weight of 20 kilograms. Modernizing a packaging process does not always require a completely new system. When existing machinery is technically sound, it can be more economical and sustainable to automate selected process steps and adapt the equipment to changing production requirements. This was the approach taken by additive manufacturer Münzing together with GREIF-VELOX. An existing manually operated BVP packer was expanded with additional components to create a largely automated packaging line. Targeted Upgrade of the Existing BVP Packer The starting point of the project was an existing BVP packer used for filling wax products with additives into bags. Instead of replacing the machine entirely, the project team assessed how the packaging process could be automated through a targeted retrofit. The system was equipped with an S1 automatic bag placer and a bag conveyor line. The bag placer automatically feeds the empty bags and positions them on the filling spout. After filling, the bags…

80GHz Radar Technology Solves Industrial Level Measurement Problems
Heavy dust, steam, and buildup often compromise measurement accuracy in harsh industrial sectors. RETTAR’s 80GHz radar technology provides a high-precision solution, using narrow beam physics to maintain stability where others fail. The Resilience Test: Penetrating Real-World Obstructions In industrial environments such as petrochemical refineries, steel mills, and power plants, process conditions are rarely ideal. Dust, steam, and material buildup on vessel walls are common, often causing traditional level measurement devices to produce unreliable data, signal drift, or complete system failure. For process engineers and plant managers, the challenge is not just taking a measurement; it is maintaining accuracy despite the environment. Putting It to the Test: Penetration Capability To verify how 80GHz technology handles these obstructions, we conducted a practical evaluation. The goal was to see if the radar signal could ”ignore” barriers and lock onto the true target. The Test Setup: * Device: RETTAR 80GHz Radar Level Meter. * Target: A metal box (simulating the surface of real material). * Interference: A blue plastic box (simulating wall buildup or internal obstacles). The Process: *…

Why the Mixing Process Determines Baking Agent Quality
amixon from Paderborn builds mixing systems for baking agents and premixes: blending over 50 components homogeneously with minimal heat input. The foundation is a deep understanding of product properties: baking aid concentrates consist of more than 10, sometimes over 50 individual components—enzymes, emulsifiers, leavening agents, lecithins, starch derivatives, whey powder, and functional fats. These are added to the flour in industrial bakeries at a concentration of only about 1% to 5%—but must nevertheless be distributed absolutely homogeneously, as they directly determine the texture, volume, crumb, and shelf life of the baked goods. The production of high-quality baking agents and premixes places three simultaneous demands on mixing technology: Three Key Challenges in Bakery Ingredient Production * Homogeneity despite extreme component diversity: Hydrophilic and hydrophobic substances, ultra-fine powders, and granules with varying bulk densities and particle sizes must be evenly distributed—and must not segregate again during product discharge * Controlled liquid addition without clumping: Oils,…

How Radar Sensors Help Prevent Material Build-Up in Silos
Automated 3D radar monitoring prevents hazardous build-up (bridging, ratholing) in bulk solids silos, ensuring continuous processing flow. It tracks material topography safely for accurate inventory and avoids manual entry. Inside industrial grain silos and flour processing plants, hidden material build-up like bridging, sidewall cling, and ratholing often disrupts operations. When material arches or sticks to walls, it creates dangerous empty pockets, unexpected flow stoppages, and sudden material collapses. However, sending workers up to check silos introduces high fall hazards and relies on slow, inaccurate manual record-keeping. To fix these safety and data gaps, deploying automated grain silo monitoring systems tracks actual surface topography, keeping crews safely on the ground. What Structural Hazards Defeat Manual Silo Inventory Management? Maintaining stable material flow inside heavy-duty grain storage units introduces severe operational risks when relying on manual estimation or other traditional metrics. Industrial storage environments frequently deal with complex physical changes across wide silos: Severe Interior Flow Faults: Sticky or humid bulk items cling to internal steel…

Belt Scales with SysTec Weighing Indicators at Limestone Plant
Carrières de la Vallée Heureuse uses SysTec IT2000M weighing indicators for its conveyor belt scales. In limestone quarry operations, reliable throughput measurement is essential for production control, stock management, performance monitoring, and equipment protection. For Carrières de la Vallée Heureuse (CVH), a French limestone quarry, enhancing two main conveyor belts with modern weighing technology was an important step towards greater process transparency and production control. The French SysTec partner Opale Pesage implemented a high-precision conveyor belt scale solution at the CVH quarry using SysTec IT2000M weighing indicators. The Process After the limestone is crushed, the material is transported to the processing plant. On the conveyor belt, the SysTec IT2000M weighing indicator continuously measures the belt load via load cells. At the same time, the current belt speed is determined via an optional encoder input (OP-ROT from Opale Pesage). Based on these values, the SysTec IT2000M weighing indicator calculates the current throughput in tonnes per hour…

The Engineering Role of Reagent Cabinets in Flue Gas Treatment
Discover how reagent cabinets combine controlled loading, consistent material flow and precision dosing to support reliable flue gas treatment. Flue gas treatment systems rely on accurate and consistent reagent dosing. However, feeder performance is only one part of reliable reagent handling. Before powdered reagents reach the injection point, they must be introduced into the system, held within the hopper and presented consistently to the screw feeder. Reagent cabinets bring these functions together within a compact handling arrangement. By combining reagent loading, local holding capacity and precision screw feeding, they support the controlled delivery of powdered reagents into the flue gas treatment process. The Role of the Reagent Cabinet A reagent cabinet typically incorporates a keg-tip mechanism, hopper and integrated screw feeder. During operation, the reagent keg is positioned within the station before being mechanically tilted to discharge the material into the hopper. The hopper provides local holding capacity and supplies reagent to the screw feeder positioned below. Combining these functions…

Modular system solution for efficient mixing, conveying, and filling
Modular system combining a Prodima mixer, hopper, and conveyor optimizes powder processing. It boosts efficiency, cuts downtime, and maintains high mixing quality for food, pharma, and chemical industries in a compact footprint. How can mixing quality, productivity, and flexibility be optimally combined in a compact production plant? This question was posed by a manufacturer of powder products across all industrial sectors as part of modernizing their production. After extensive mixing trials, the decision was made in favor of a modular system combination consisting of a mobile Prodima mixer MP-150 (mixing volume approx. 130 liters), an intermediate hopper, a flexible mechanical conveyor, and an existing filling system. The main factors influencing this system configuration were, in particular, the high mixing accuracy, short mixing times, the flexible useful volume of min. 10%, max. 90% of the mixer, as well as low energy consumption. Additionally, the mobility of the mobile mixer allows the same mixer to be used on multiple production lines if required. After the mixing process, the product is discharged into an intermediate hopper. While the flexible screw conveyor continuously transports…

How to Monitor Grain Storage in Real Time Without Climbing Silos
Automated 3D radar scanners replace hazardous manual silo inspections. They measure grain stocks precisely in real time, optimizing logistics while protecting workers from falls and dust explosion risks on site. In modern bulk agriculture, the most critical challenge in grain storage is not just tracking stock numbers, but protecting human life during inventory checks. Traditional manual methods require technical crews to physically climb high platforms, enter dusty structures, and make visual estimates. These outdated habits expose personnel to dangerous falls and severe dust explosion risks. To eliminate these field vulnerabilities, field-proven grain silo monitoring systems revolutionize facilities operations. By replacing hazardous manual climbs with real-time 3D Volumetric Reconstruction, this automated approach calculates true stock volumes safely, enabling logistics teams to manage raw materials without entering dangerous containment zones. Potential Safety Risks of Manual Silo Inspections Accurate inventory control inside massive storage structures introduces major operational hazards for plant workers: * High Fall Hazards: Manual level checks require personnel…

Non-Contact Radar Measurement: Technology Behind NivoRadar® Sensors
Non-contact level measurement with 80 GHz radar: UWT’s NivoRadar® sensors measure up to 120 m with ±2 mm accuracy, even in dusty conditions and ATEX zones. Dust, high temperatures, or turbulent surfaces – demanding measurement conditions are part of everyday life in many industries. Non-contact level measurement using radar has proven to be one of the most precise and reliable methods for a wide range of diverse applications. Thanks to radar technology, level measurement can be carried out accurately and without contact – even under extreme conditions. How Does Non-Contact Radar Measurement Work? Radar sensors use electromagnetic waves to determine the fill level. A high-frequency signal is emitted, reflected by the surface of the medium, and received as an echo. The time between transmission and reception determines the fill level. The 80 GHz technology ensures a highly focused signal with a narrow beam angle of just 3°. This enables precise measurements even in narrow tanks or installations with complex internals. Additionally, antennas with a small beam angle can be positioned closer to the tank wall, reducing interference…

Drum Repair: Repair Instead of Replacement
Damaged stainless steel drums do not necessarily have to be replaced. Depending on the nature of the damage, damaged drums can often be professionally repaired. Stainless steel drums are designed for a long service life. Nevertheless, damage is inevitable in industrial use. Dents caused by contact with forklifts, cracks in weld seams, worn sealing surfaces, or corrosion damage often result in containers being removed from the production process. However, not every instance of damage requires replacement. In many cases, the functionality of a stainless steel drum can be restored through professional repair. Whether a repair is possible and economically feasible depends on the condition of the vessel and the requirements for its future use. A technical condition assessment therefore forms the basis for any decision. Typical Signs of Damage in Industrial Use Transportation, cleaning, and daily handling leave their mark even on high-quality stainless steel drums. The most common types of damage include: - Dents and deformations on the shell or bottom - Damaged flanges and sealing surfaces - Cracks in welds or in the tank…

How to package ultralight powders efficiently
Ultralight powders such as carbon black, silica, pigments, fibres or certain pesticides place particular demands on packaging processes. The challenge is not only to fill a product into a bag with precision. What matters is the entire process: from safe product handling and low-dust filling to compaction, sealing and the creation of stable, stackable packaging units for storage, transport and logistics. Especially when handling very fine and light bulk materials, conventional packaging methods often reach their limits. These products typically have a very low bulk density, tend to generate dust and are difficult to form into stable bags. The result can be voluminous, unstable bags that require significant storage and transport capacity and create additional challenges in downstream handling. Vacuum compaction as a key technology GREIF-VELOX’s VeloVac technology is designed specifically for these requirements. At the heart of the process is vacuum compaction for ultralight powders. By compacting the product inside the bag in a controlled way, the volume can be significantly reduced. This results in more compact, stable and stackable bags. This improves the entire…

Stabilization of Vitamins Protective coating or layering in the fluid bed for maximum effect with reduced material input
Stabilization of Vitamins
Protective coating or layering in the fluid bed for maximum effect with reduced material input Increased transport and storage stability: - Reduced sensitivity to light. - More resistance to oxygen, moisture and higher temperatures. Vitamins are essential substances and must be regularly supplied to the organism. A distinction is made between hydrophobic and hydrophilic substances. While fat-soluble vitamins are accumulated in the body, excess water-soluble substances are excreted. Due to their reactivity, vitamins are very sensitive to oxidation, light and moisture. Enriched products therefore usually contain increased vitamin levels to compensate for degradation during storage. Processes such as microencapsulation, layering of active ingredients onto carriers, or coating with protective polymers can increase stability and thus reduce the amount of vitamin needed. A typical example is sustained-release vitamin C or folic acid pellets with a protective coating. With layering on carriers, vitamin contents but also trace elements can be precisely dosed. There…
