The Solids European Series is moving to the south of Europe. For the first time, the renowned bulk solids industry trade show will take place in Italy as Solids Parma on 14 and 15 June 2023. At the request of many exhibitors, the organiser Easyfairs is thus bringing the top-class business platform to the heart of the northern Italian economy and is already expecting around 150 exhibitors and more than 4,000 trade visitors. “With SOLIDS Parma, we can finally fulfil our exhibitors’ wish for a trade show in the economically strong north of Italy,” says Daniel Eisele of Easyfairs Deutschland GmbH, who is delighted about the new event location. As head of the Solids European Series, Eisele has been approached many times about an additional event in Italy. Special solution for weighing and unloading containers
SSB supplied a container tilt chassis, where weighing equipment is completely separate from the structure. Two tipping stations are controlled by one control system. This equipment is designed to unload bulk containers with plastic granules and repack the products for local needs and logistic handling. The containers are placed on a tipping device with an integrated certified weighing bridge using a reach stacker. The weight of the container is read and then emptied into a hopper located below. After emptying, the empty weight of the container is read and the actual net weight of the batch is determined. Due to the design of the tipping chassis, the weighing equipment is completely separate from the structure. For weighing, a weighing frame with 4 measuring cells is hydraulically lifted to decouple the container from the tipping chassis. The hydraulic lift is provided by special synchronized cylinders and controls. The interlock with the tipping station is ensured. 2 tipping stations are controlled by one control system. Spiral jetmills enable ultra-fine products with dry processing. The Spiral Type Jetmill of PMT-Jetmill is specialized in optimizing air streams to improve efficiencies and to minimize energy consumption. One application example is Baryte. The material is fed pneumatically to the spiral jetmill and runs spirally through the milling chamber. Grinding media enters the area through the milling nozzles. Grinding media is either compressed air (3.5 to 15 bar and 240°C) or superheated steam (up to 24 bar and 400°C). The air stream fluidizes the material-bed and lifts as much particles as possible into the stream. Comminution is mainly based on shearing forces which result from velocity differences. The integrated dynamic classifier is capable to run at a maximum circumferential speed of 190 m/s. As soon as the particles reach a certain fineness, they can pass the classifier to the final product. The fineness can be easily adjusted by variation of the classifier speed. Sinfimasa supplies several screws for sugar in ATEX design
A major manufacturer of soft drinks, both sweetened and light and zero, required several screw conveyors for conveying sugar. The challenge in this case was that the screws would be located in an ATEX 22 (3D) zone and had to have a food-grade finish according to FDA regulations. The project also included several extraction screws for unloading silos and big-bags, and conveyor screws for transport with throughputs ranging from 9 to 36 tons per hour. Some of these screw conveyors would be mounted under inclinations of up to 35º. The design of the screws therefore had to take into account the function of each conveyor. The pitch, power and speed of the drives were calculated specifically for each screw. Since the sugar was very fine, a mechanical air sealing system was chosen to close and seal the conveyors. In addition, hygienic production criteria were considered in the design to reduce or eliminate the risk of the screw conveyor being a source of contamination

A construction company in Sonora, Mexico, contacted Vortex in 2021 to source a chute diverter strong enough to handle the abrasion from limestone processing. Vortex supplied two 400mm (16”) Pivoting Chute Diverters (PCD) each weighing 500 kg (1103 lbs). Lime and limestone are handled through these diverters. The Vortex PCDs are designed to divert heavy-duty and/or abrasive dry bulk solid materials from one source toward two or three destinations in gravity-fed applications. The Vortex Pivoting Chute Diverter offers in-line maintenance features, durable materials of construction, reduced downtime, prolonged service life and many other significant advantages over flap diverters and bucket diverters. A customer had major issues with a belt conveyor that should transport the instant chocolate drink powder from production to a sieve placed right above the filling lines. The installed belt conveyor contaminated the powder with wear which was not acceptable. Because all upstream equipment was already installed, less than 1 m below a discharge rotary valve was available. A lean phase pneumatic conveying system with negative or positive pressure would have been possible. However, because the powder must be treated very gently minimising the creation of fines during the transport, a low velocity dense phase conveying system Gericke PulseFlow PTA with two vessels was selected. The two 20 l pressure vessels were placed side by side and successfully fitted below the continuously discharging rotary valve. The chocolate powder is fed at a rate of 1.5 t/h into one pressure vessel while the other vessel is conveying and alternating. This mode generates a continuous product

This significantly improves handling and at the same time avoids contamination. Especially in plastic injection moulding plants, plastic containers (material bins, waste bins) are ubiquitous. Working without is almost unimaginable, although the disadvantages are well known: electrostatic charging, tipping over and poor residual emptying. Siloanlagen Achberg has developed an easily retrofitted suction nozzle to reduce the risk of tipping over and to enable optimum emptying. Retrofitting is very simple: a template is used to cut an opening in the rear wall of the plastic container so that the suction nozzle can be inserted and screwed to the screw-on counter plate.
