Moisture measurement bagging plant M-Sens 2

Avoid blockages and downtime with continuous moisture measurement

A company from the plastics processing industry was looking for a way to detect moisture in the material delivery of its bagging plant to avoid enormous difficulties when discharging material.

APPLICATION

A company from the plastics processing industry was looking for a way to detect moisture in the material delivery of its bagging plant in order to be able to recognize at an early stage whether material that is too moist is being blown into the following silo. In the past, this led to enormous difficulties when discharging material from the silo. In addition, a solution was sought to be able to monitor the suppliers of the raw material (PE granules) with regard to the permissible moisture limits.

PROCESS DATA

  • Customer: Plastics industry
  • Material: PE granules
  • Humidity range: Differentiation dry – humid
  • Installation: Hopper outlet after bagging plant
  • Function: Control of the moisture content in the delivered raw material (PE granulate)

SOLUTION

The robust, easy-to-use M-Sens 2 has been specially developed for online moisture measurement of bulk solids and delivers reliable results. The installation was carried out here in the material hopper directly downstream of the bagging plant.
The measurement continuously monitors the moisture content. If the defined limit value is exceeded, the process is stopped so that the material can be diverted elsewhere.

CUSTOMER BENEFITS

  • Prompt monitoring of the delivered raw material (incoming goods inspection)
  • Avoidance of process disturbances
  • Reduction of maintenance effort
  • Quality assurance

The AirSafe PM is a new measuring instrument to monitor particulate matter exposure such as PM1, PM2.5, PM4.25, PM10 and TSP in indoor ambient air. The AirSafe PM is used to monitor safety levels of air quality for personnel as well as to optimize process and dust control systems. The measured data can also be used by health and safety departments to be proactive in reducing PM concentration and exposure. Using a high-end optical system, the AirSafe PM monitors the air flowing through the device, counting particles and defining their sizes. The measured data is treated by a combination of processor-based platform and a unique algorithm. Different particle sizes are measured and classified as PM particles or A or E dust fractions. The AirSafe PM housing is made of ABS and aluminum, ensuring the sensor robustness for industrial applications. The sensor has a digital output that alarms when the set limit value is exceeded. As the sensor is designed to be used in

Continuous dust measurement in malt filling The continuous dust monitoring in malt filling protects employees and the production facility from the dangers of a high dust concentration.
Continuous dust measurement in malt filling
The continuous dust monitoring in malt filling protects employees and the production facility from the dangers of a high dust concentration. APPLICATION In an Estonian brewery, beer is produced from yeast, hops, malt, and water. Delivered by trucks, the malt is stored in silos before further processing. When it is needed in production, the malt is being filled into big bags and transported to its place of use in the brewing process. During the filling, it might occur that big bags are not properly attached, or that they tear. In this case a dust cloud arises and above a certain dust concentration it results in an explosive mixture. Electrical equipment and other ignition sources are in close proximity to this dust cloud, leading to a potentially dangerous situation for employees and the production facility. Therefore, the employees would shut down electrical equipment manually. PROCESS DATA * Customer: Brewery (Estonia) * Product: Malt * Installation: Big bag filling, vicinity of the silos * Continuous dust measurement of the silos‘ ambient air SOLUTION By installing the AirSafe 2 in the hazardous

Early recognition of dangerous dust concentration
Dust-laden exhaust air is produced during production at a confectionery manufacturer. A dangerous dust concentration shall be prevented by an early warning. APPLICATION A confectionery manufacuturer refines dairy products. The dust-laden exhaust air produced during the manufacturing process is cleaned in the extraction system by industrial filter systems. When the limit value is reached, a dangerous dust atmosphere is to be prevented by early warning. A calibratable dust monitor shall continuously monitor the clean gas side according to the permitted dust concentration of max. 20 mg/m³. PROCESS DATA * Customer: Confectionery manufacturer (Germany) * Product: Waffle dust * Permitted limit value: 20 mg/m³ * Installation: Clean gas side of the exhaust duct of a dryer * Function: Continuous measurement of the dust content in the exhaust air SOLUTION In the application described, the ATEX type approved ProSens was used to measure the dust content. The ProSens can be calibrated and monitors clean gas sides downstream of filters continuously and reliably for permitted or customer-specified dust concentrations.

Automatic salt dosing in food manufacture The measurement of the salt flow within the process allows a quick reaction to changes. A consitent product quality can be ensured.
Automatic salt dosing in food manufacture
The measurement of the salt flow within the process allows a quick reaction to changes. A consitent product quality can be ensured. Salt is blown from a silo, via a sieve and rotary valve, into the process. The salt flow is determined by a recipe setting and the speed of the rotary valve is linked to the depth of the product on a conveyor belt. Samples are taken and minor adjustments are made during the process. By installing an ENVEA SolidFlow in-line sensor, a trend of the salt flow has been determined and this is linked to the process control system to give an instantaneous reading. Process parameters have been set within the control system to alarm if the salt flow is either above or below tolerance. This enables the operator to react to changes within the process quicker, to maintain product consistency and quality. Process data * Industry: Food manufacture * Material/Quantity: Salt flow up to 200 kg/hr * Installation: (In-line) transfer line * Function: Flow measurement of ingredient addition What drove you to look for a solution? The original method was too slow to get a result.

Online moisture measurement during sand conveying Replacement of manual material sampling
Online moisture measurement during sand conveying
Replacement of manual material sampling For the production of cement, sand is taken as raw material either directly from ship delivery or from internal storage facilities. Experience shows that the material has a higher moisture level when delivered by ship. Previously, the material moisture was checked manually in the laboratory. The customer was now looking for a continuous moisture monitoring system for the sand transportation. Process data: Customer: Cement manufacturer (Germany) Material: Sand Moisture range: 0 – 10% Installation: Conveyor belt (installation with shuttle) Function: Online moisture measurement during sand conveying Solution: The M-Sens 3 is a sensor for continuous measurement of the material moisture of bulk solids. It measures very accurately and is reliable, robust and easy to operate. In the application described, the M-Sens 3 is installed directly on the conveyor belt with a shuttle. In this way, the moisture content of the sand can be measured continuously. The
