Owl Eye: Record bulk stocks permanently, precisely and digitally
With the Owl Eye System, Sachtleben Technology has developed a system for recording bulk material stocks as volumes. Accuracies of ±1% are achieved. The Owl Eye system uses innovative LiDAR sensors (Light Detection and Ranging). These 3D laser sensors record the environment and create a point cloud of the surrounding contour. This is a form of three-dimensional laser scanning. Using the known density of the bulk material, the volume can be converted into a mass. The measurement, evaluation and visualization is done via a web server application with a connected powerful database. Stockpile inventory as know-how Sachtleben Technology GmbH has a high-precision Riegl laser scanner with a range of up to 1.2 km. This is used to scan quarries, open-cast mines, bulk material stockpiles or buildings three-dimensionally as a service. For this purpose, the scanner is set up at various set-up points and the individual point clouds are merged into one large common point cloud. The data from the quarries and open pits are then analyzed for slope monitoring for the mining office. For inventory purposes such as year-end

SGH VibraPads: effective flow promotion through aeration and vibration
Retrofittable discharge aids that combine aeration and vibration prove to be particularly effective, because of optimising the flow properties of the product and seperating it from the container wall. Retrofittable discharge aids that combine aeration and vibration prove to be particularly effective. A combination of aeration and vibration optimises the flow properties and the discharge. The dosed air that enters separates the product from the container wall. At the same time, the vibrating sleeve causes the product to oscillate. In this way, bridging is prevented and the bulk material flow is supported. A second, internal seal provides lasting protection for the product and the air network. This is what SGH VibraPads do. In general, they are suitable for all products that tend to bridge, are FDA-approved and can also be used in EX-protected systems. Easy retrofitting from the outside With the protected SGH VibraPad external mounting, existing silos can also be equipped or retrofitted from the outside in a very short time. Installation in the silo or container wall is quick and easy. Time-consuming and cost-intensive welding and assembly work is therefore no

Gravimetric methods have an advantage in content determination
Weighing techniques offer the advantages that they work extremely precisely, have no direct contact with the bulk material, and work independently of grain size, solid density and bulk density. Due to their physical properties, bulk solids place high demands on the exact determination of the contents of a container and on quantity balancing in a processing operation. This applies equally to static weighing, for example in a tank, and to the dosing of free-flowing products. Gravimetric, i.e. weight-determining, methods are an established method for determining the content of bulk materials. These weighing techniques offer the advantages that they work extremely precisely, have no direct contact with the product and record the weight of the bulk material independently of grain size, density and bulk density. It is precisely this last advantage that becomes apparent when dosing bulk material. Here, volumetric dosing is available as an alternative, which measures the discharge by means of volume per time unit. However, the density of the dosing medium plays a decisive role in volumetric dosing. If the density of the material fluctuates during the discharge

Technical specification of the Owl Eye system
The Owl Eye system is a hardware independent system and determines the volume of bulk solids with an accuracy of +- 1% for a good point cloud without measurement shadows For point clouds with measurement shadows, smart algorithms interpolate the contour and can provide a reliable result even then. The small modern LiDAR sensors have a range of up to 150m and the most widely used sensor has a field of view of about 80° x 70°. The IP 67 classification allows reliable indoor and outdoor use. The smart choice of materials for the sensor housing means that hardly any dust settles on the cover, allowing the sensor to be used in harsh environments. The Owl Eye system is a hardware independent system and can be used with different sensors from different manufacturers. Sachtleben Technology tests and benches the LiDAR market and is thus always at the cutting edge of technology. Accuracy, temperature resistance, measurement sensitivity with different materials and other various quality characteristics are tested. With the Owl Eye System, Sachtleben Technology has developed a system for permanently, precisely and digitally recording bulk

Reducing material breakage with a tube conveyor system
A good solution to reducing material breakage is a gentle conveying system. Low-speed, high-volume movement will slowly push the material along without too many contact points and no impact forces. In many industries, the integrity of the materials or products being conveyed is of utmost importance. This is especially true in the food processing industry, where materials are particularly fragile, and breakage can lead to many negative consequences. However, even though preserving material integrity is crucial during the conveying process, no less than 29% of industrial facilities state that material breakage is one of the top three conveying challenges they face on a daily basis. Material breakage Material breakage is defined as the separation of material particles into two or more pieces under the action of stress. Any place where the product or raw material is sliding against a conveyor surface (be it a tube, flat surface, or any other) can cause material abrasion and possibly material breakage. Breakage generally leads to a decrease in product value. In the food industry, even the smallest amount of breakage can lead to lost product, sanitation issues,

Plastic as an appealing bearing material at higher temperatures
Metals are replaced by polymers more and more often. STASSKOL developed the ESKAFLON 449 as a particularly attractive bearing material at higher temperatures. If you replace metals with polymerss, in addition to the high chemical resistance, the low density of the plastics is a great advantage, because this saves weight. However, the rigidity of the materials must stand up to the challenges of the application. In order to increase the strength, we have introduced hard coal, carbon fibers, but also fabric mats consisting of carbon fibers into the high-performance polymers. With particularly high filling levels, we achieve mechanical properties that come very close to those of metallic materials. In order to be able to achieve filling levels of over 50 vol.-%, STASSKOL has further developed hot compression molding as a processing method. An advantageous side-effect of the strongly increased rigidity of the polymers is the reduction of their thermal expansion. PTFE even has a very high thermal expansion coefficient compared to other polymers. With our ESKAFLON 449, we have succeeded in reducing the thermal expansion coefficient

Intervention leads to preservation: Full elevator overhaul at Codrico
Inspection revealed that the elevator belt was due for replacement, and it needed new wear plates. This work was carried out in a single stop to prevent many unnecessary standstills. Codrico Rotterdam BV recently told us its elevator used for the intake of raw materials was behaving erratically. Wear of the pulley’s lagging was putting the elevator belt out of alignment, so that the misalignment monitoring system issued constant alarms. Closer inspection revealed that the elevator belt was due for replacement, and it needed new wear plates. All this work was combined and the assembly was carried out in a single stop to prevent many unnecessary standstills. Activities progress The drive pulley and the elevator belt were lifted from the elevator together. The first assembly team could then disassemble the elevator buckets, which were still in good condition. The buckets were able to be attached to the new belt immediately because the new elevator belt had already been punched and delivered. Meanwhile the new NBR pulley lagging was applied at the plant’s workshop in Pijnacker in the Netherlands. This type of rubber is highly suitable for

Poeth realizes vegetable protein grinding line
Poeth Solids Processing has realized a milling process for vegetable raw materials as a system integrator at RMG BV. Poeth supplied the complete air management from his own house. Over the past five years, the market for meat substitutes has grown by an average of four percent annually, but that growth is accelerating. An increase of ten percent is expected next year. This development is driving up the demand for vegetable proteins. RMG BV in De Klomp (near Veenendaal), supplier of vegetarian raw materials, has therefore invested in a new grinding line for protein-rich products such as soy, peas and grains. Air management A Hosokawa Alpine fine grinding mill is located in the process line. RMG approached various system integrators for the air management of the process, including Poeth Solids Processing from Tegelen. The fact that Poeth was chosen is due to the company’s extensive experience with the realization of complete processes in which filters and air transport are of crucial importance. RMG is also very satisfied with the systems Poeth has already supplied to the company. Total concept “We started building mills for wind and

Modular overband magnet for mobile recycling systems
Goudsmit has recently developed a range of mobile overband magnets. The modularly designed magnets remove iron particles from underlying material streams and are intended for mobile recycling systems. For mobile recycling systems such as shredders, crushers and screens. The magnetic separators are constructed with either Ferrite or Neodymium magnets, with the latter being upgraded from a 2-pole to a 3-pole system. This modified design provides a stronger magnetic field from the same number of magnets. The compact and strong Neodymium 3-pole overband allows iron to rotate more and pulls it loose, even when it is under a pile of material. This ultimately results in a cleaner product and allows more metal to be recovered. Modular construction The recent design of the mobile overband magnets is modular and includes an extra attenuator at the end of the magnet. As mobile crushers have a diverse power supply - electric or hydro - the modular construction offers the user a choice between a hydro drive, gearmotor drive or drummotor drive. The weakening magnet in the new version comes on top of the various working widths, available in 650, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1400 mm.

New director TBK Group Stan Egging: ’an inspired professional idiot’
Steady growth, further professionalisation and international expansion. With Stan Egging (45), TBK Group aims to develop into a total solution provider in the field of innovative solutions for conveyor belt components and bulk material handling. Long-term vision It is perhaps his Calvinistic background that made Egging feel at home with the Renswoude-based TBK Group from the very first moment. Bart Kelderman and Wijnand van de Vendel (shareholders of TBK Group, ed.) are very nice people and give me energy. He sees parallels between the corporate culture and the down-to-earth ”just do as you’re told” and ”a deal is a deal”, a tradition the director was brought up on. He is also averse to superficial interpretations and quick fixes. He prefers to focus on a long-term vision of sustainability. ”I am a real go-getter, don’t like stagnation, but progress. So my motto is: ’People who move keep moving, literally and figuratively.’” Exclusivity As to what appeals so much to Egging in his new position as managing director at TBK Group, he does not have to think for long: ”Here lies a request for help, where I can use all my expertise to take the company further into the future.” The scion

Raw material deliveries in the age of Industry 4.0
Raw material deliveries in the age of Industry 4.0
Do you recognise this? Raw materials arrive in silo vehicles, big bags or sacks at the delivery, and a sample of the raw material is taken. Then the raw material is usually fed to the warehouse or directly to the production process by employees or truck drivers, e.g. via a checkweigher. Problems arise in this process: - no clear identification possibilities - No simple, secure raw material handling from delivery via the warehouse to production. - Incorrect or no stock reports of raw material quantities to other systems. In other words: what lacks is the ability to track their raw material inventories digitally without gaps. We help you solve this problem To solve the problems, raw materials must be uniquely identified upon delivery. The handling is object-oriented and can easily be done on site. A standard API interface makes the exchange to other systems very easy. From 52 years of experience we know what counts The verification of the raw material

3 hints to save energy and reduce cost in powder handling
Not all industries have the luxury of lush margins. It is therefore even more important to work with an experienced partner to design processes that are efficient and energy-saving and ensure the availability of the plant. Do you have your energy costs under control? Energy consumption is becoming increasingly important, and not only for reasons of sustainability. For products with low margins, every cost saving is significant. In many bulk material processes, transport within the plant is an energy guzzler. Tons of material often have to be moved. Here it is important to select the right conveying technology with the expertise of the plant designer, which also takes into account the properties of the bulk material. In a highly standardised production, switching from batch production to a continuous mixing process can also save a lot of energy. Plant failures due to abrasion? Many bulk solids, such as pigments, are very abrasive. Abrasion plays a role wherever bulk solids move. The correct design of the piping, the type of conveying and the right choice of equipment have a dramatic effect on the service life of the plant components. GB Elbows from Gericke are an effective method

Strong comeback for PowTech 22, meeting place for process engineers
Huge joy at getting back together in the halls of the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre: POWTECH, Europe’s leading trade fair for powders and bulk solids, brought delight to exhibitors and trade visitors after the enforced break due to Corona. There were around 9,000 trade visitors, increasingly coming from abroad (internationality: 43 percent), to the high-quality meeting of German and international bulk solids professionals. The synergies of this year’s FACHPACK and POWTECH trade show combo gave POWTECH an additional boost: Nearly a quarter of FACHPACK visitors were also interested in what POWTECH had to offer. From 27 to 29 September, POWTECH offered 479 exhibitors from 22 countries in four halls, and 64 top-notch speakers shared useful practical knowledge and demonstrated specific solutions to the challenges facing the industry. Visitors were highly satisfied with the quality and professional range that POWTECH once again showcased this year in the form of live demonstrations, guided tours and special displays. ”We are proud of the high-quality networking and knowledge platform we have created with POWTECH,” says Heike Slotta, Executive Director for Exhibitions at NürnbergMesse. ”The fact that

RG Series Rotary Paddle Level Indicators (ATEX) Easy to install, adaptable, versatile
RG Series Rotary Paddle Level Indicators (ATEX)
Easy to install, adaptable, versatile The RG Series Level Sensors have been designed to indicate the presence or absence of bulk materials such as grains, pellets, chemicals, wood chips and other powders. The detection of material is achieved by a rotating paddle. If material impedes the rotation of the paddle, the motor topples of its axis and triggers an alarm. The RG Series has a variety of compatible paddles which offer the ability to detect a wide range of products. The paddles are interchangeable, making the RG Sensors adaptable to different densities of measured materials. The sensors are customizable not only with paddles, but also with extensions and voltages. An easy to install instrument, the RG Series sensors do not require any calibration, maintenance or specific tool for their installation. The sensors are extremely versatile, and can be installed on tanks, hoppers, on walls or roofs of silos, in a vertical, horizontal or oblique position. Durable and reliable, the RG Series Sensors

Recovering excess chromium powder from component parts
Metal treatment specialist improves its production capacity using the Finex Separator. The process now only requires one operator instead of two Helping a range of industries to prevent wear and tear to their component parts, Chromin Maastricht BV specializes in chrome diffusion. By using chromium powder, they create a chrome plating layer over the component part, making it resistant to abrasion and adhesion. This is particularly useful for parts such as plungers, bearing bushes and ball valves. To achieve chrome diffusion, the company needs to bake component parts in a heat-resistant container with the chromium powder at temperatures of 800-1000 degrees Celsius. When this process is completed, excess chromium powder usually remains on the component part which previously required a hand sieve to clean the parts. As a better alternative to this time-consuming practice, Chromin integrated a 40” Finex Separator™ into their production line to remove excess powder while allowing it to be recovered for reuse. As well as increasing capacity from 20 to 40 containers per day, the process now only requires
