Brazilian recycler Global PET expands production with a 4th infrared dryer from KREYENBORG. Recycled food-grade PET is booming in Brazil. According to a recently published official study, the nominal capacity for PET recycling in the country is around 400,000 tons per year (t/year). From which, about 140,000 t/year are from the only recovered thermoplastic that is approved in the country for direct contact with food and beverages (except mineral water), according to Irineu Bueno Barbosa, Jr., partner and commercial director of recycler Global PET. With its production having increased 60% since 2017, Global PET shows how hungry the market is for recycled food-grade PET. An important reason for this growth within the last five years for the Sao Paulo-based company has been the introduction of infrared technology (such as the IRD from the German machine builder Kreyenborg) into their existing lines. TBMA recently delivered a big bag filling line including pallet dispenser and conical vibrating table to a large chemical producer in the southern part of the Netherlands. The installation will be used for the packaging of raw materials for cleaning products and is part of an extensive TBMA system. Safe and ergonomic The filling line is supplied with, among other things, an operator platform incorporating a gate that can tilt forwards up to 15°. The trombone hooks come forward automatically so that the operator can easily suspend the big-bag in the machine. The hooks are self-releasing: the filled big-bag is raised slightly so that the loops are tension-free, allowing the hooks to be rotated, after which the bag is removed. This construction provides a safe, ergonomic and operator-adjustable workplace. The inflatable seal on the filling head also ensures a dust-free connection during filling. Optimal filling Each suspended big-bag is inflated for optimal filling. The STASSKOL DynamicSeal Faceseal combines the advantages of the known shaft seals without compromising on functionality. The axially contacting sealing surface minimizes leakage on the one hand through direct contact and on the other hand through the redirection of the material flow from the axial to the radial direction. Efficiency increase after installation The new SDF has already proven its excellent performance in a twin-shaft horizontal mixer for animal feed. In the batch process, several barrels of cereal flour were mixed with various abrasive fillers such as stones and minerals per mixing process. With a shaft diameter of 200 mm and a speed of 50 min-1, a noncircular run of 0.7 mm was found. With the conventional seal originally used, a product leakage of 25 kg per day was recorded. After replacing it with the new SDF, which occupies exactly the same space as the previous seal, the leakage was zero. At the same time, the consumption of sealing air was minimized, thus increasing the energy efficiency of the plant.

Jansen&Heuning made a smart modification to an existing big bag filling station, thus creating fully filled, stable big bags of 2 meters high. Most big bags are slightly over meters high. But how do you ensure a good big bag filling process and stable big bags when they are almost 2 metres high? With this question, HSR Packaging from Ede (NL) came to Jansen&Heuning. We started working on a smart modification of the existing big bag filling station: a big bag fill- and shake station in one. The problem: unstable, poorly filled big bags The big bags at HSR Verpakkingen are almost 2 meters high and are filled with various recycling products. The client noticed that big bags could not be filled fully with the old big bag filling station, because the contents were loosely added to the big bags. In addition, they noticed that the filled big bags did not stand very stable on the pallets, which is necessary with big bags of almost 2 meters high. The Friedrich Köster GmbH & Co. KG Maschinenfabrik-Eisengießerei in Heide manufactures castings of iron, steel and non-ferrous metals, sometimes in small batches, sometimes as individual castings of various sizes. The foundry sand required for this is transported, still hot, to large silos after use. Here it is stored and cooled until it is needed again for further processing steps. In order to reliably measure the level in the silos and thus their total content, reliable level measurement is required. Until now, guided radar sensors were used for this purpose. These old sensors, however, intermittently failed to transmit the measurement signals: Due to the very long cable probes, they had difficulties measuring in the sand and sometimes even stopped working completely. Spiral jetmills enable ultra-fine products with dry processing. The Spiral Type Jetmill of PMT-Jetmill is specialized in optimizing air streams to improve efficiencies and to minimize energy consumption. One application example is Mica The material is fed pneumatically to the spiral jetmill and runs spirally through the milling chamber. Grinding media enters the area through the milling nozzles. Grinding media is either compressed air (3.5 to 15 bar and 240°C) or superheated steam (up to 24 bar and 400°C). The air stream fluidizes the material-bed and lifts as much particles as possible into the stream. Comminution is mainly based on shearing forces which result from velocity differences. The integrated dynamic classifier is capable to run at a maximum circumferential speed of 190 m/s. As soon as the particles reach a certain fineness, they can pass the classifier to the final product. The fineness can be easily adjusted by variation of the classifier speed. During a visit to the factory last April, a technical inventory was carried out and the first steps were taken to avoid spillage and dust at the conveyor belts. The over 130 year old glass factory was taken over in 2017 by the Spanish concern Vidrala. This group owns several glass factories in Spain, Portugal and Italy, among other countries. In the factory, where tradition and modernisation merge, around 425 million glass bottles for beer and wine are produced each year. Prevention of waste Glass is a product that consists of various, precisely combined raw materials, which are processed at very high temperatures. ”The conveyor belts are the heart of the raw material supply for glass production in the factory,” explains Micha Bermentloo, export manager at TBK Group.
