Certification of UWT products for the Belorussian market As part of the governmental certification of the UWT products for the Belorussian market the audit commission visited the headquarters of UWT in Betzigau from 21st to 25th March. The goal of the metrological certification is the registration of the UWT products Nivobob and Nivowave in the State Register of Measurement Technology of the Republic of Belarus. During the visit numerous tests and examinations have been conducted with these units. The test results showed that the UWT products Nivobob and Nivowave meet all Belorussian standards and therefore there is no further obstacle to the registration. "UWT belongs to the few companies in Europe showing a perfect organization, a thorough preparation and excellent final results. Regarding product quality, business organization and quality assurance UWT is even exemplary"- so the chairman of the Commission.

Wear resistant cone valve for dense phase pneumatic conveying of abrasive materials The biggest advantages of dense phase pneumatic conveying systems compared to dilute phase systems are that slow conveying speeds, large conveying distances, high solids loadings and thus high capacities are possible. With minimizing the speed for example the effect of wear and attrition can be reduced to a large extent. However, for dense phase systems a higher pressure gradient must be available and therefore it is vital to have a pressure tight conveying system without any leakage. One of the most critical parts when using a pressure vessel for abrasive materials is the inlet valve. The NMI in the Netherlands have examined and tested the B6F and concluded that an approval with a Y-value of 12.000 for standard C3 is applicable. On the basis of pure polyethylene Tridelta Siperm has developed a new material with high conductivity; Siperm HP antistatic. This new, black material has the positive properties of the white material Siperm HP, the distribution of the pores is homogenous, the surface extremely smooth, it is extremely well weldable and it is officially approved to be food-safe. The surface resistivity of the new antistatic Siperm HP material is below 106 ohm and therefore it can be designated as electrically conducting. Especially for construction companies for bulk handling plants this newly developed, antistatic material may be of interest.

Tridelta Siperm has developed a two-layered porous material. Compared to our standard qualities, which show a homogeneous pore structure in the cross-section, the new material consists of two layers with different pore sizes. The sinter bridges which are formed between the two layers in the sintering process prevent that the layers loosen from each other when the material is cleaned with compressed air. In use the smoother side is facing the product in order to either achieve a maximum filter efficiency or – in the sphere of fluidization – to avoid the infiltration of the bulk into the fluidization unit. The product-averted side consists of a rougher, more permeable layer in order to hold the pressure drop as low as can.

Fine-grained bulk materials such as colouring pigments, manganese dioxide, soot, cement, coal dust, various ceramic powders, powders for the food industry, pesticides and many other materials are very difficult to handle. They have a very large bulk volume, i.e. a very low bulk density, and produce large amounts of dust when transferred. In these cases compaction of powders is aimed at. Such fine-grained bulk materials can be compacted down to 20% of their bulk volume using vacuum compaction rollers made from SIPERM-materials. The highly porous SIPERM-material used for covering the compaction rollers is available in sheet form and can be welded to create larger units and adapted by rolling to the radius of the rollerbody. This can either be done by the customer himself or by Tridelta Siperm GmbH.

Storage, mixing and discharge are difficult because these fine-grained powders do not flow freely. They tend to agglomerate and form bridges or tunnels around the silo outlet and, therefore, can only be removed effectively using some sort of discharge aid. A highly efficient solution to these problems are pneumatic Siperm-aeration components. They are supplied complete with all the necessary hardware (seal, washer, nut) and can also be retrofitted into existing systems. The SIPERM-R spots have a diameter of 100 mm. The pads are available as standard in sizes of 125 x 250 mm and 125 x 500 mm. Of course we also manufacture pads in special sizes.

A proven solution to such problems is the fluidization of the bulk materials using custom-made aeration bottoms, cones or inserts which we manufacture to your specifications. Dry, dust-free air is injected to reduce the friction and cohesive forces of the bulk material, producing a continuous flow of material out of the vessel. Air supply pressure and velocity of air must be set at such a rate that the contents of the silo are evenly loosened. When fitting-out large silo areas with aerations units, it is advantageous to divide them into sectors which can be aerated interchangeably.

Delft Solids Solutions now offers testing the tendency of powders towards segregation Considerable efforts are often devoted to the mixing of several different species of powders (of various sizes, shapes and densities) in order to have a homogeneous mixture of the intermediate or final product. Nevertheless, a well-mixed system may segregate during handling, e.g. when discharging into a bin or big-bag, transportation in a truck or pipe-line, but this could also occur when loading the powder in e.g. a tablet press for production of pharmaceutical tablets. Surprisingly, this phenomenon is often overlooked or not adequately tackled. Prediction and quantification of this segregation phenomenon can now be executed in the Delft Solids Solutions laboratory. The fluidization segregation tendency of powders is assessed in accordance with ASTM D 6941 standard. In this segregation test, a fixed volume of a representative powder sample is fluidized and collected in different fractions. Rotonivo in high temperatures The Challenge The company Pyroforce was looking for level limit detectors to work in a reactor, which produces gas for power generation. The sensors control the feed of woodchips, which burn up in the reactor. Also the discharge of the ash should be controlled by a limit sensor. The challenges in this application are the high temperature of 600°C and the condensing hydrocarbons like tar. The Solution The feed of the woodchips will be controlled by a UWT paddle switch ROTONIVO® 6000. This full detector is installed on the top of the reactor in an angular position. Is the sensor free of woodchips, the feed screw switches on with a time delay and woodchips are filled in the reactor from a storage silo. If the level gets to the sensor the screw will be stopped. In the upper part of the reactor there are temperatures of about 600°C. The high temperature and the condensing hydrocarbons like tar are the critical elements in this process which influence the function
