Fike was recently awarded the best paper at the 8th International Symposium on Hazards, Prevention, and Mitigation of Industrial Explosions (ISHPMIE) held at Keio University, Yokohama, Japan from September 5-10, 2010. “The Role of Turbulence in Explosion Protection Design” was a joint effort between Fike and Ineris (France), and was one out of two papers presented by Jef Snoeys, Fike’s Manager of Explosion Protection Technology. The Fourteenth International Colloquium on Dust Explosions and the Ninth Colloquium on Gas, Vapor, Liquid and Hybrid Explosions, jointly form the ISHPMIE.

Part of this method involves milling processes with the MF series of oscillating sieve mills from Frewitt. The oscillating sieve mills of the MF series were originally developed for the gentle milling of heat sensitive products in the pharmaceutical industry. Later these mills acquired a permanent place in the food production industry as well. Depending on the respective application, the user can select between 27 and 400 rotor oscillations per minute. This operating principle gives rise to numerous advantages: The milling process generates only a minimal amount of heat. The result of this gentle process is products with a very uniform grain size distribution and minimal fine particle fraction.

Morphologi G3 now offers wet and dry particle characterization The introduction of a new large volume wet cell extends the range of sample types that can be analyzed with the award-winning Morphologi G3 automated particle characterization system from Malvern Instruments. Equipped with the new wet cell accessory the Morphologi G3 measures size, shape and intensity of particles for a wide range of wet dispersions and emulsions. This adds to the system’s existing capabilities which include the analysis of dry powders and characterization of foreign particulate material on filters. Liquid suspensions often present major challenges for analysis using conventional microscopy instrumentation since it is possible to measure only limited sample volumes under a cover slip. The Netherlands - The compression load cell BM14G4 from Zemic has been awarded the OIML R60 C4 approval for ”legal-for-trade” applications. The NMI in the Netherlands have examined and tested the BM14G4 and concluded that an approval with a Y-value of 8800 for standard C3 and C4 is applicable, with a Z-value of 4000. Approved capacities from 10 to 50 tons are available. For the 10 and 20 ton capacities the OIML approval is new. Features This load cell has a robust construction, is made of stainless steel, has an IP68 protection class and is hermetically sealed. This load cell has built in surge arrestors.
