Vibrations occur above all in production plants and can generate many different types of horizontal and vertical oscillations in a large variety of frequency ranges caused by the drives of the integrated machines. The metering result is influenced decisively by the vibration severity measured in the form of acceleration of the vibrations. “How well do the weigh feeders compensate defined intensities of vibration?” Research carried out by the University of Applied Sciences Constance showed that an acceleration of vibration of up to 0.5 m/s² did not affect the metering accuracy of the Gericke hybrid weighing technology. It emerged that, especially mechanical damping plays an important role when improving on metering accuracy. Tests made it clear that the reduction of transference of vibrations to the system (as a whole) was not achievable by using heavy weights nor were rubber feet suitable as vibration dampers for significant reduction of the effects of the vibrations.

Further product development of worm geared motors as a result of specific customer requests In one case, the long-standing customer Rhein-Nadel Automation provided the impetus for a meaningful further product development. In a special case, a bunker conveyor is used to stock up work pieces with a filling volume of between 5 and 200 litres that are equipped with Ruhrgetriebe worm geared motors in a three-phase and AC design. However, the transport speed of the single stage worm gear was too high for the bunker conveyor in order to fill the work pieces into the sorting pot in a dosed manner. The Development Department managed to find a worm geared motor in stock that could be adjusted to match the particular needs of the customer. The power of the motor already matched the requirements, but the structural design and the output shaft had to be modified. Rub-Block with a PT100 sensor The Rub-Block RB200DN with a PT100 temperature sensor is designed to report the misalignment of a conveyor or elevator belt. The advantage of the Rub-Block is the fact that it will send a continuous output signal to the PLC. The Rub-Block emits a permanent life standby signal. If such a signal is absent, this must be investigated and if required the PT100 sensor must be replaced. As long as the Rub-Block emits a standby signal, it will also emit an emergency contact signal caused by its temperature rising, as soon as a belt touches it. Off-tracking belts running into the side of conveyor equipment will cause friction, which may cause damage to the belt, and may generate heat, fire, or a dust explosion. The Rub-Block is very easy to install, it will be fitted on both sides of a conveyor or elevator belt. Once the belt off-tracks and runs onto the brass plate of the Rub-Block, it will create friction and the temperature of the Rub-Block brass plate increases.
