LUM GmbH was founded in 1994 by the Managing Director Prof. Dr. Dietmar Lerche as innovative development, production and service corporation. The headquarters are located in Berlin, Germany. The company has an office and application laboratory in France and three subsidiaries: LUM Corporation, USA, LUM (Changzhou) Instruments Co. Ltd, China, and LUM Japan Co., Ltd.
LUM GmbH consists of a highly qualified, multidisciplinary team of scientists, technicians and engineers.
Scientific and measurement-technology expertise has been obtained for decades in:

•Particle characterization
•Analysis of suspensions and emulsions, including stability evaluation
•Determination of adhesive and bonding and strengths
•Quality assurance and process optimization.

This knowledge and its continuous extension form the basis for customer-oriented problem solving, product developments and services for our national and international customers, working in larger industrial, food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical enterprises and increasingly in the academic sector.
The innovative analytical instruments “made by LUM“ are part of standard laboratory equipment in many R&D and QA/QC departments. LUM instruments enable our customers successfully to develop and formulate new and improved products and introduce them onto the market, following our slogan “The Next STEP in Dispersion Analysis and Materials Testing“.

International conference 2024 - Call for Papers
International Conference for Dispersion Analysis & Materials Testing 2024 – Call for Papers In June 2024, LUM GmbH hosts the next, now traditional International Conference for Dispersion Analysis & Materials Testing (ICDAMT 2024). Due to popular demand the conference will again take place at the ABACUS Tierpark Hotel in Berlin, Germany, from June 10 – 11, 2024. Additional practical shortcourses will take place at the LUM headquarters in Berlin-Adlershof on June 12. The shortcourses are considered a further training measure for employees of certified companies (DIN ISO 9001 and other relevant). The Call for Papers for the International Conference is open. The conference organizer invites all world-wide LUM instrument users to present their strategies and results in the scientific and industrial use of STEP-Technology®, CAT-Technology®, MRS-Technology® or SPLS-Technology® in the frame of an oral presentation. Conference topics include: * Particle & Surface Characterization * Real-time & Accelerated Stability (Solid-Liquid-Separation/Liquid-Liquid-Separation)

Future-oriented expansion of the LUM management
Berlin, 20 March 2023: LUM GmbH was founded in 1994 by the Managing Director Prof. Dr. Dr. Dietmar Lerche as innovative development, production and service corporation. The headquarters are located in Berlin, Germany. Subsidiaries work in the USA, China, Japan and France. Since 1998, customers in research and industry have been using the innovative analytical devices made by LUM for comprehensive particle and dispersion characterization, for determining adhesive and bonding strengths and for determining product and process parameters. In the laboratory, at-line and for some time also in-line. Since March 15, 2023, the management of LUM GmbH has been expanded to include CEO Susanne Lerche-Merchant. The graduate business economist (VWA) has been working at LUM GmbH since 2002 and has been an authorized officer and COO since 2016. Both managing directors are authorized to represent the company alone. The employees of LUM GmbH as well as the closest cooperation

LUM as a valued partner of the filtration industry at FILTECH 2023
FILTECH is the largest and most important filtration show world-wide. FILTECH 2023 will feature 440+ Exhibitors and a major international conference. The innovative power in the field of filtration and separation is strong. For solids separation and solid-liquid separation there are always new developments with the striving for maximum efficiency and higher qualities. The LUM GmbH under the direction of the managing director Prof. Dr. Dr. Dietmar Lerche, appointed to the editorial board of F&S Filtrieren und Separieren in 2022, has been supporting research and industry since 1998 with innovative measuring devices for the characterization of solid-liquid and liquid-liquid separation. His focus is always on the scientific contribution to the further development of the subject areas. This year, Prof. Lerche was again appointed to the scientific committee of FILTECH to scientifically coordinate and accompany the further development of filtration and separation. Prof. Lerche and other LUM experts share their knowledge, particularly in the field of filter centrifuges and hydrocyclones, Numerical and experimental

Again and again on everyone’s lips Titanium dioxide and the scientific characterization of its properties
Again and again on everyone’s lips
Titanium dioxide and the scientific characterization of its properties Titanium dioxide is an important white pigment, an important photocatalyst and is characterized by high chemical resistance. It has been used in a wide range of products such as batteries, food, ceramics, plastics, paper, sunscreen formulations, inks and wall paints. It can occur as a dry powder, dispersed in liquids or also bound in coatings and is characterized by very different properties and possible interactions. The use is not always undisputed, assessments of possible uses can change over the years. Scientific studies and data lead to decisions by authorities, e.g. about the use or phasing out of E171 as a food additive [More on this: see link in press release on LUM website]. Decisions are challenged through legal channels, and sound scientific results are also required for the legal confirmation or reversal of official decisions. A classification by the EU Commission in 2019 of TiO2 powder as carcinogenic was overturned by the Court of Justice of the European

Young Scientist 2022 - Lia Beraldo da Silveira Balestrin with the topic: LUMiSizer: an important tool in asphaltene inhibition studies From January 24th to 25th, 2022, LUM GmbH hosted the 10th International Conference for Dispersion Analysis and Materials Testing. 90 participants from 24 countries around the world took part. Five candidates from South America and Europe were nominated for the Young Scientist Award 2022, their work was themed: learn from nature, use resources more effectively and avoid harmful effects [1]. Two Brazilian and two German participants faced the final selection process and discussed their research results with the audience and jury at the virtual conference. Dr. Lia Beraldo da Silveira Balestrin was elected Young Scientist 2022 for her work: ”LUMiSizer: an important tool in asphaltene inhibition studies” [ref 2], which she carried out at the Department of Chemistry, Campinas University in Brazil. Balestrin’s work aimed to study the colloidal behaviour of asphaltenes as a function of time and their structure under different compositional conditions. This involved
