From now on, the food hose Master-PUR Flat Food is available exclusively as an antistatic version (marked with the suffix ”A”). ”We decided to do this because this hose was mostly used to transport powders or dusts,” says Product Manager Torsten Gebhardt. The production process has also been adapted: The hose is now glued (and not welded as before). In the process, a thermoplastic melt made of the same material as the film is applied to the ends to be welded - and the film is pressed. ”You can think of it as gluing with a plastic,” says Gebhardt. The advantage: the films are much more tear-resistant and the weld seams last longer. Smooth, antistatic, tranparant The inner smoothness of the hose has also been improved. The recently developed 10,000 gauss rotating cleanflow magnet from Goudsmit Magnetics filters magnetic and paramagnetic particles out of poorly flowing, greasy powders in the food, pharma and chemical industries. The magnet rotor is composed of 7 strong magnet bars, equipped with Neodymium-iron-boron magnets, each with a diameter of 32 mm. This is 40% thicker than regular magnetic bars and also used by the magnet manufacturer -the only one in the market- in the static version of the cleanflow. The magnetic separator was developed in response to many customer requests. It is suitable for free-fall lines and captures both iron and AISI 304 and AISI 316 particles as small as 30 µm from cocoa or milk powder, for example. An additional advantage is the higher capacity powder that the new cleanflow magnet type can process compared to the 8- or 12-rod magnet separator. A nutrition manufacturing company in Ireland selected a 200mm (8”) Vortex Flex Tube Diverter to feed Microcrystalline Cellulose from a rotary valve and silo above the diverter and then into three positive pressure lines. In a steel plant the amount of coal injected into blast furnaces shall be controlled and optimized. APPLICATION The PCI technology (Pulverized Coal Injection), was designed to dose and control the amount of coal injected into blast furnaces, via the hot blast tuyeres. Modern PCI plant designs use dens phase conveying systems to transport pulverized coal from the storage area to the blast furnace, reducing nitrogen consumption, abrasion and stabilizing coal flow. With optimal coal injection, the last furnace’s burn efficiency is also improved, avoiding downtime and stabilizing iron ore transformation into pig iron. Maintaining burn urn homogeneity is key for stable production. The best way to control coal injection is by directly measuring the coal mass flow in two potential places, after the pulverized coal storage silos, at the PCI, and on the coal injection lances, underneath the blast furnace. After more than half a century as a family business, TBMA Europe continues under Belgian management. This way continuity is guaranteed and at TBMA and further growth is possible. For Bart Houben, until recently director/owner and son of the founder, continuity was key in the search for a suitable successor. He found the solution close to home with Wim van Parijs and Stefan Schumann of TBMA België. Continuity Two years ago, Bart Houben figured it was time to think about his future and that of TBMA. The continuity of TBMA Europe was key, both for the staff and for the customers. Since the founding of TBMA België in June 2000, there has been an excellent collaboration with co-owners Wim van Parijs and Stefan Schumann. Over the past 22 years, they have used their broad knowledge and experience in the bulk solids industry to grow TBMA België considerably. Tricalcium citrate, a bio-based mineral is the most used organic mineral in this sensitive application because of its excellent nutritional fit, i.e. high bioavailability and compatibility. However, from an infant formula production standpoint, added calcium salts may show abrasive effect during liquid processing and induce fouling deposits during the heating step, which pose challenges to effective processing. Consequences are lower throughput, increase of cleaning time and intervals as well as wear and tear of the equipment. These issues and related costs can be reduced dramatically in case the calcium salt addition is shifted from wet to dry dosage. To prevent abrasive wear, it is necessary to use abrasion-resistant industrial coatings with good resistance to the (hardest and sharpest) particles in the bulk material being transported. The simplest solution is to apply a hard coating or lining to the surface of the parts of the conveyor in contact with the product. This protective coating should have a greater hardness than the particles causing the wear. A second possibility is to apply reinforced coatings with a better chemical composition, giving phases greater functionality and more protection. A third possibility is to treat the base metal, making it more resistant. Wear protection for bucket elevators For a bucket elevator, the buckets should be reinforced at the edges with an anti-wear steel plate, as this is the area most affected by wear. A silo system is controlled and monitored via control components housed in a switch cabinet. The user interfaces developed specifically for this purpose by the south German manufacturer clearly depict the components built in to the silo systems. The navigation guides the user through the sub-menus in an intuitive and user-friendly manner, similar to an app. The main tasks the user interface offers include viewing filling levels, operating system components and the registration of parameters as well as information regarding the bulk solids. The filling level indicator continuously and/or intermittently displays measured filling levels, maximum filling levels and components signals in real time via high-quality touch panels, which are available in different sizes. The user interface can also be accessed in the company network via a web client that works on all mainstream web browsers. In the past, fine manganese powders were often transported using pneumatic conveyors. However, even at low speeds (dense phase conveying) the wear on the bends was considerable. The bends had to be replaced every 3-4 weeks. For this reason, the slow Z-Conveyor transport (0.2-0.4 m/s) has been chosen for a new line.
