TBMA Europe continues under Belgian management

After more than half a century as a family business, TBMA Europe continues under Belgian management. This way continuity is guaranteed and at TBMA and further growth is possible.
For Bart Houben, until recently director/owner and son of the founder, continuity was key in the search for a suitable successor. He found the solution close to home with Wim van Parijs and Stefan Schumann of TBMA België.

Continuity

Two years ago, Bart Houben figured it was time to think about his future and that of TBMA. The continuity of TBMA Europe was key, both for the staff and for the customers. Since the founding of TBMA België in June 2000, there has been an excellent collaboration with co-owners Wim van Parijs and Stefan Schumann. Over the past 22 years, they have used their broad knowledge and experience in the bulk solids industry to grow TBMA België considerably. Therefore, it was a logical step to talk to them about the future of TBMA Europe. They were very interested in taking over the company and the first steps were already taken at the end of 2021.

Perspective

Wim van Parijs explains: ”Of course we really appreciated that Bart came to us. It gives us the opportunity to look beyond the national borders of Belgium and to further grow the TBMA group. Stefan and I now fully own TBMA België and we have a majority stake in TBMA Europe. At the end of 2025, we will acquire the remaining shares of Bart. We are now together with more than 50 colleagues, so that offers a great perspective for the future.”

Setting course

”We are very pleased that Bart will stay on as managing director for the day-to-day management of TBMA Europe for a while”, says Stefan Schumann. “In the meantime, we are already looking for a successor for this position. That also gives us enough time for the transfer. The two TBMA’s differ somewhat in focus: TBMA Europe clearly focuses on two areas, namely (separate) components and systems. Of course, there is also overlap: the components are regularly used in our own systems. TBMA België is now especially strong in systems, but we can always contact our colleagues in Noordwijkerhout for rotary valves, diverters, etc.”
Wim continues: ”The transition period gives us time to look at the strength of each company and how we can optimise the synergy in order to become even stronger. We will use this to set the course for the next 5 to 10 years.”

Continuing Story

Leaving ’your company’ behind after more than 45 years will not be easy. ”Oh no, definitely not,” says Bart Houben. ”Fortunately, I still have some time to wind down. Or maybe I should say ’kick off’. It feels really good that this way Stefan and Wim will continue the story of TBMA.”

Clever design of Big-Bag filling units for Van Delft Biscuits
The TBMA Big-Bag filling units play a key role in the internal handling during the spice nut production, and in coating these traditional delicacies with chocolate. Billions of ‘pepernoten’ (spice nuts) roll out of the ovens of Van Delft Biscuits every year. New is the in-house process line for coating traditional delicacies with chocolate. The TBMA Big-Bag filling units play a key role in the internal handling during the spice nut production. Engineering to the millimeter For Van Delft Biscuits, TBMA has supplied two Big-Bag filling units for handling spice nuts. The challenge was to fit the Big-Bag filling installation into the reasonably compact factory hall where a new coating machine is located. The available height was 4400 mm. Ultimately, TBMA managed to engineer a filling machine in which the two-meter-high big bag can be filled and weighed suspended, while there is also room for the more than one-meter high metal detector and an elevator belt. Above it is even a 30 cm space left for the operator to clean the installation. Filling the Big-Bag suspended has the advantage that the bag can be stretched and is filled

Vacuum conveying of sticky product at Campine Belgium
TBMA Belgium has supplied Campine with a bag dump cabinet with blow-through rotary valve, piping and Piab unit for the conveying of sticky products. Pre-testing in the TBMA test room showed that these products can be easily processed with vacuum conveying. Also, a smart solution was invented to prevent cross-contamination. Alternative for bag handling Campine in Beerse (Belgium) recycles industrial waste streams to make new raw materials. The company dismantles lead-based car batteries and is engaged in the recovery of metals. They also produce high-quality antimony trioxide as flame retardant synergist, raw material for pigments or catalyst for PET production. This makes the company a prominent player in the circular economy. Specifically for the plastic market, Campine produces masterbatches in which powdered additives are mixed in a carrier polymer. In this way, they relieve their customers when it comes to safe processing of dusty and ATEX-sensitive powders. To optimise their production process, Campine sought an alternative to pouring bags of additives directly into a gravimetric feeder. This refilling

55 years ago, TBMA, Technical Bureau for Mechanisation and Automation was founded by the father of Bart Houben, our current managing director. Mr Houben started the company by importing the English Westinghouse Derion rotary valves and supplying pneumatic conveying systems. Over the years, TBMA has developed its own line of rotary valves and the product range has been expanded with, among other things, diverter valves, loading chutes, samplers, big-bag filling and discharging installations and the Galahad bag cutting / emptying machine. Also, in 2000, TBMA Belgie was founded by Bart Houben, Wim Van Parijs and Stefan Schumann. We thank all our customers, representatives and suppliers for their continuous cooperation and trust and are looking forward to the future with confidence.

TBMA Big bag filling line: safe, ergonomic, optimal filling
TBMA recently delivered a big bag filling line including pallet dispenser and conical vibrating table to a large chemical producer in the southern part of the Netherlands. The installation will be used for the packaging of raw materials for cleaning products and is part of an extensive TBMA system. Safe and ergonomic The filling line is supplied with, among other things, an operator platform incorporating a gate that can tilt forwards up to 15°. The trombone hooks come forward automatically so that the operator can easily suspend the big-bag in the machine. The hooks are self-releasing: the filled big-bag is raised slightly so that the loops are tension-free, allowing the hooks to be rotated, after which the bag is removed. This construction provides a safe, ergonomic and operator-adjustable workplace. The inflatable seal on the filling head also ensures a dust-free connection during filling. Optimal filling Each suspended big-bag is inflated for optimal filling. The conical vibrating table then ensures that the corners of the bag are filled first, creating a balanced loading of the big bag. The vibration cycles vent and compact
