The Berthold analyzer Micro-Polar Moist LB 568 provides an accurate and reliable online measurement of the carbon content in fly ash. The real-time information about the proportion of unburnt ash can be used to improve the combustion rate and boiler efficiency. The state-of-the-art analyzer is installed on a high-temperature resistant measurement chute below the electrostatic filters. The fly ash measurement is carried out by means of microwaves, which are highly sensitive to the carbon particles in the fly ash. Varying bulk densities can be compensated using radiometric technology.

Every component comes from a single source in this assembly unit built by DEPRAG The rear doors of the goods lorry clank shut and the engine purrs. A consignment of carefully packed components for a new assembly system is leaving the DEPRAG factory in Amberg. Behind it lie 14 weeks of work - from the date of the order to acceptance - and it is now on its way to the customer. Systems engineer Markus Solfrank loves his “constantly exciting” job. And as the brand new assembly system leaves the factory gates, his satisfaction in having done a good job is tinged with a little sadness. KOBOLD diaphragm level indicators are used to monitor the fill level of almost any powdered, granular or crystalline bulk solids. When the desired fill level is reached, the pressure of the bulk material on the diaphragm activates a micro-switch with toggle function, which can be used as a normally open or normally closed contact at an operating voltage of 220 V and a maximum of 15 A. The corrosion-resistant diaphragm is contained in light metal housing with a flange ring, allowing it to be easily screwed into existing flange connectors. A built-in spiral spring provides the necessary initial tension for the diaphragm. A variety of spiral springs or diaphragms are used depending on the specific weight and structure of the bulk material. The built-in ordinary spring activates at a control pressure of just 0.2 - 0.5 kg. The company Kithara Software from Berlin closes a gap and creates a coherent real-time cycle with image acquisition, image processing and output under Windows® through the new Vision Module. Previously, it was already possible to react to images in real-time which were acquired by GigE Vision® cameras. In order to obtain real-time for this process, the Kithara real-time driver signals the existence of the entire image to the network controller within a few microseconds after receiving the last parts of the image. The new software component now enables the immediate image processing in real-time by user’s image processing algorithms, as well as by the comprehensive image processing library HALCON™ from the Munich-based company MVTec. In this way, more than 1800 processing operators are available in real-time that enable the implementation of high-performance machine vision applications. Applications requiring pressures of up to 30 bar and temperatures of up to 230°C demand a lot from design and fabrication. AVA has taken the challenge. As of now, the brand-new AVA reactor HVM 5 is available for trials. The machine has three stands; these as well as the vertical agitator, a pressure control valve, nozzles for pressure, temperature, and ventilation are mounted on the machine‘s lid. The reaction container has a double jacket an is screwed to the lid from below. The reactor is heated from below with a special high-temperature heater plate as well as with thermal oil via the double jacket. Of course, the whole reactor is thermally insulated. The reactor‘s launching was a great success: A first series of trials over several days in order to modify biomass for the development of food and pharmaceuticals was conducted to the customer‘s full satisfaction.

In February 2013, almost 9 years after introducing VEGAPULS 68, the first radar sensor for bulk solids, VEGA have delivered the 100,000th sensor. "This production milestone carries forward the success story of radar level sensors in process automation. Today, they are the all-round level transmitter for liquids and bulk solids," commented Günter Kech, Managing Director. "Radar technology is on a success trajectory and we will ensure that it stays there, by further simplifying the level measurement of bulk solids with radar in the future." Automatic order picking with Prorunner mk5 Qimarox has developed a new automated order picking system ‘Collect & Sort’, which can handle up to a thousand products, containers, or cartons per hour. Central to this system is the Prorunner mk5, the successful vertical transport system from the company that evolved from Nedpack in 2012. Products from conveyor channels at different levels are fed out fully automatically and placed on the correct outfeed conveyor in the direction of the forwarding department or palletising station. Qimarox’ ‘Collect & Sort’ automated order picking system consists of several levels of conveyor channels in which products can be stored. A short roller conveyor module moves back and forth at the front of the conveyor channels on each level. This module retrieves the items in the correct order from the conveyor channels and transports them to the Prorunner mk5, the vertical transport system of Qimarox. This system receives the products from all levels and places them in the

ALL DURAG flame monitors for permanent operation have SIL3 Following the product families of the compact flame monitors D-LX 200 and D-LX 100, TÜV Süd Industrie Service have now also confirmed that the separate design DURAG flame monitors fulfil the requirements for permanent operation up to SIL3. With the product families D-LE 103, D-LE 603, D-GT 800, D-UG 120, and D-UG 660 now all DURAG GmbH flame monitors for permanent operation are confirmed with SIL3. Also for the separate design devices (flame sensor and control unit) this high SIL level was achieved with a proof test interval of 15 years. An important basis for the good rating is the two channel design of the DURAG control units which is already used for more than 20 years. The two channel architecture of the devices ideally unifies high safety together with high availability.

Commissioned at the trade fair, and directly into production: since the European Coatings Show we`ve NOLL met with overwhelming project-related response at the European Coatings Show 2013 in Nuremberg’s Exhibition Centre. Most visitors – many of them new clients – had arranged an appointment before the trade fair to talk to our experts at the stand. Remarkably, our guests brought very specific challenges into the meetings. They approached us for special processing, be it for pigments, additives or fillers. On the spot, we laid down the appropriate processing procedures and scheduled our timing for production. Clients also commissioned test series at the NOLL technical laboratory, where we will develop customized procedures before going into production of industrial-size quantites. It was an international audience which gathered at the NOLL stand at COATINGS, including several visitors from the Asian region. However, an immense drawback is that safety valves are very maintenance-intensive, and present the disadvantage of not providing leak tightness. In turn, this results in huge material wastage and rising emission rates. Just in the Netherlands, this results in an annual loss of raw materials loss of gases and liquids of approximately 106,000 tons. With a calculated average price of 700,00 EUR/ton, this results in a loss of 75 mio. EUR/year.
