Three Key Challenges in Plastics Production and How to Overcome Them
Efficiency and continuity are vital: machines run nonstop and operators add value, yet factories face supply chain complexity and inefficient bulk handling. At Indus Bulk Logistics, we visit a wide range of plastics production sites across Europe and North America. What we see is that the way raw materials enter the production process directly impacts safety, costs, and output. Whether it’s virgin granulate, regrind, or recycled material, the packaging format – big bags (also: Super Sacks, FIBCs, bulk bags), octabins, or 25kg bags – often creates bottlenecks. Based on our experience, here are three of the biggest challenges plastics manufacturers face when it comes to raw material handling: # High investment costs in unloading systems # Excessive manual handling by operators # Machine downtime due to irregular supply Ad 1. High investment costs in unloading systems Every plastics factory wants to run continuous, automated, and reliable production. But that starts with supply: how are your raw materials delivered to the factory floor? - FIBCs (big bags/bulk bags): Frequently used for regrind or recycled materials.

Kreyenborg at K trade fair - product preview
Kreyenborg presents infrared technology with new control system, storage and feeding systems, recycling solutions, and retrofit solutions for energy-saving Plastics processors and recyclers place the highest demands on the quality of their plastics. At the same time, they’re always on the lookout for new technology to speed up their processes or to save energy. With Kreyenborg’s infrared technology, there is a cost-saving alternative to hot air-, vacuum- or other drying methods. Whether virgin PET material or recyclates, flakes or compounds, various plastics are heated quickly, gently, and efficiently in Kreyenborg’s infrared rotary drum (IRD). Drying and crystallization are likewise achieved in one step. Plastics expertise across the board Kreyenborg, the plastics specialist from Germany, will be demonstrating both a continuous system and a batch version of the infrared rotary drum (IRD) at the K trade fair. To demonstrate the IRD, a large monitor that provides a view into the interior, showing how the material in the rotating drum behaves under infrared light. Siloanlagen Achberg at K 2025: Proven technology and new impulses
When the plastics industry meets at K 2025 in October, Siloanlagen Achberg will once again be represented with a wide range of components. At booth B2 in hall 10, the company will present practical solutions and high-quality products for the storage, conveying and dosing of plastics (granules, regrind, powder and flakes). Visitors can look forward to a wide range of exhibits. These include a new coupling station with RFID sensor technology, which ensures greater process reliability and improve monitoring capabilities in central material feeding systems. This ensures that every plastics processing machine receives the right material and that potential malfunctions can be detected at an early stage. “We want to show our customers what is technically possible – but always with a focus on what really matters in everyday operations: reliability, ease of use, and durable components,” says Managing Director Gerd Maass. In addition to technical innovations, there is also news from the company itself: with the completion of a modern two-storey new hall extension at its Achberg site, the company has

Kreyenborg’s IR-Clean Technology with positive EFSA-Scientific Opinion
Success for Kreyenborg’s IR-Clean Technology: EFSA gives positive “Scientific Opinion” on decontamination of rPET flakes Process reduces contamination of recycled material to a level determined harmless to health The Germany-based mechanical engineering company Kreyenborg has achieved a significant success under the new regulation (EU) 2022/1616 of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). At the end of May 2025, the authority issued a so-called positive ”Scientific Opinion” for its infrared technology ”IR-Clean” to the manufacturer, which specializes in processing technology for bulk materials in the plastics and food sectors. This process decontaminates recycled PET flakes, which can then be processed again for food packaging that can come into contact with all types of food. With this approval of the process by EFSA, Kreyenborg’s IR-Clean system will be assigned a unique recycling authorization number (RAN) and listed in a public register. According to the machine manufacturer Kreyenborg, several IR-Clean processes have already been individually rated positively by customers in accordance with the old regulation (EC) 282/2008. According to Kreyenborg, the approval

Coupling table with RFID sensor technology
The new TWIST coupling tables from Siloanlagen Achberg improve the monitoring of central material conveying systems thanks to advanced RFID sensor technology. The latest generation of TWIST coupling tables from Siloanlagen Achberg offers a significant improvement in the monitoring of central material supply systems (vacuum conveying) through the use of state-of-the-art RFID sensor technology. This innovative technology sends a corresponding signal to the central control system during coupling changes, greatly reducing the risk of operator error. According to the manufacturer, the new coupling table from Siloanlagen Achberg offer numerous advantages. Thanks to the contactless and process-reliable communication between RFID sensors and RFID tags, every coupling action is signaled to the central control system within milliseconds. The RFID sensors are mounted on the pipe connection couplings, while the RFID tags are attached to the caps or hose connection couplings of the coupling table. The RFID sensor system can also be retrofitted to existing systems, regardless of the manufacturer. The standardized data interface (Modbus

24/7 big bag processing in oil production at Gustav Heess
24/7 oil production with stacked big bag systems, safe handling and up to 60% space savings at Gustav Heess. Gustav Heess, a leading producer of vegetable oils for the cosmetics, food and pharma industries, launched a new factory in 2025 to expand capacity. With over 100 oil types in production and raw materials such as seeds and nuts arriving in bulk, the company required a flexible and continuous material handling solution. Traditional internal silos were ruled out due to high cleaning costs, limited traceability, and poor space efficiency. The solution had to deliver uninterrupted flow, maximum use of factory space, and safe material handling — all while supporting circular use of materials. How Indus big bag systems support continuous oil production * FlowPole systems keep product flowing from big bags, even during night shifts with no operators present * Unloading stations are designed to stack 2 or even 3 systems, allowing up to 4m³ of raw material input within a compact footprint * Filling stations are used for both raw materials and by-products such as press

When Quality and Time Matter: How Allod Gained Efficiency with Indus
From outsourced filling to full in-house control — Allod cuts time, space, and quality risks with Indus Neva, achieving ROI in just 4 years. Since May 2023, Allod Werkstoff GmbH & Co. KG, a German specialist in high- performance TPE and thermoplastic compounds, has been using the Indus Neva Springhead big bag handling system to streamline their internal logistics. The switch has transformed how they fill their silo trucks — bringing the process entirely in-house for more control, reduced handling time, and a solid return on investment. The Challenge: Outsourced Filling Created Quality Risks Before adopting the Indus system, Allod had to ship filled big bags to a third-party logistics provider, where the bags were emptied into trucks. This extra step added not only time and cost, but also a quality risk: handling by external parties meant less control over product integrity and contamination potential. The Solution: maximize handling speed with Indus Neva After evaluating alternatives such as expensive bulk truck loaders and complex material conveyors, Allod chose the Indus Neva Springhead with open
