Screening Machines for Explosives
Dust explosions remain a serious threat in industries dealing with explosive low ignition energy materials, particularly in the defense sector. What has to be considered when screening explosive materials? By investing in high-quality, static, and gas-tight screening machines, companies can significantly reduce the risk of dust explosions, ensuring both employee safety and the integrity of their production facilities. In industries handling explosive materials, such as the production of black powder and ammonium nitrate, dust explosions present a significant hazard. Dust explosions are not limited to organic materials but can occur with any finely powdered combustible material that meets specific conditions, especially in high-risk industries. Dust explosions occur when three main conditions are met: # Critical Dust Concentration – Fine particles suspended in air, particularly below 0.4 mm in size, create an explosive atmosphere. For example, the explosion severity index (KSt) for fine materials can exceed 140 (bar·m/s), classifying them as ST1, a moderately explosive category. # Oxygen – The presence of at least 9% oxygen is required for an explosion, making

Hydrogen-tight screening of silicium
Screening the finest silicon powder requires the highest purity standards. Not challenging enough? Then make it gas-tight for hydrogen This is how it works: he highest purity standards are required for the sieving of high-purity silicon powder, which is used in chip and solar panel production. Even the smallest impurities can have serious consequences for the quality of the end product. RHEWUM has risen to this challenge and supplied three RHEsono® screening machines that have been specially developed for screening the finest silicium powder. The focus here was on a special technical requirement: hydrogen tightness. One of the biggest technical challenges was that the screening machines had to be gas-tight, in particular hydrogen-tight (H2-tight). In a hydrogen atmosphere, the hydrogen protects the sensitive silicon powder from unwanted chemical reactions that could be triggered by metal ions (hydrogen passivation). This protective effect is crucial to ensure the high purity of the end product. However, the extremely small hydrogen molecules can pass through steel and cause hydrogen embrittlement, which makes the

Final quality control of the goods for actual moisture content
Quality complaints present an undesirable and unpredictable risk of additional effort and costs for both the customer and the producer, therefore it is fundamentally essential to inspect product thoroughly. It is fundamentally essential to inspect the produced goods for their assured properties such as haptics, dimensional stability, exact net weight, and more before shipping them to the customer. This is to prevent justified complaints regarding the quality of the goods. Quality complaints present an undesirable and unpredictable risk of additional effort and costs for both the customer and the producer. Moreover, they can harm a good customer relationship, which must be avoided at all costs. As the following reports explain, the moisture content of differentiated products can significantly impact product quality. 1. Moisture measurement after bagging of hygroscopic substances. In this application, the requirement was to precisely measure the moisture content of a hygroscopic granulate after the bagging process, through the closed plastic, textile fibers, or paper sack—essentially, sack by sack. If the moisture content of the hygroscopic granulate is too high,

VEGA sensors are heading into the future with RFID tags
To make it possible to identify a sensor at any time and in any place, even if its type label is damaged or faded VEGA is making RFID tags available for its sensors Scratches, dents or worn areas: After years of reliable performance under diverse environmental conditions and temperatures, even a level sensor shows its age. To make it possible to identify a sensor at any time and in any place, even if its type label is damaged or faded, and trace it using every digit of the serial number, VEGA is making RFID tags available for its sensors, initially for those of the PRO series. RFID Tags RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is not new, but it is now probably the most advanced way of identifying sensors in industrial facilities. RFID tags contain a microchip that stores information. Because their robust chips make them contactlessly readable for many years, despite wind and weather, rapid temperature changes or exposure to sunlight, they are far superior to other labelling techniques. “They are an ideal addition to stamped tags or barcodes, especially for outdoor installations,” says Stefan Kaspar, VEGA product manager.

Innovative auger manufacturing
Trantec is now utilising its skills and expertise to produce augers that will revolutionise the food industry, not only in quality but price. Why are food-grade auger screws so expensive? Augers can be relatively expensive due to several factors, including the material used, design complexity, manufacturing process and end-user application requirements. Playing a crucial role across many industries, from nonwoven to plastics and food to pharmaceutical, augers for applications with stricter hygienic and quality standards tend to cost more as they must be produced from high-quality materials to adhere to manufacturing regulations. For example, an auger for a food application would typically be manufactured from 316 stainless steel with a high polish, crevice-free finish, resulting in a longer production time due to additional polishing, alongside a higher material cost compared to an auger for a plastic handling application that may require an auger manufactured from 304 stainless steel with a standard finish, therefor lessening the material and labour costs. Custom designs will also likely drive the price

UWT implements level measurement for demanding processes
UWT GmbH has successfully completed a challenging project at one of the largest cement plants in Kazakhstan. The plant operator required a solution for a reliable continuous measurement process in the cement silo. Dusty and particularly harsh conditions prevail in the building materials industry, in quarries or in mining. High demands are placed on level measuring devices - solid sensor technology with uncompromising robustness and unrestricted reliability are therefore of the utmost importance. The significant challenges in this project lay in the extreme environment - characterised by high dust formation, lump formation, and high process temperatures. In addition, the installation of the sensor required it to be mounted on an existing, high set nozzle. Electromechanical lot system The NivoBob® electromechanical lot sensor was successfully used for permanent level measurement within the silo. The UWT lot system was the first choice for this, as it can be adapted to specific installation requirements thanks to its modular design and its wide range of configuration options. Determining influencing factors precisely Measuring system for determining moisture, temperature and homogeneity
Determining influencing factors precisely
Measuring system for determining moisture, temperature and homogeneity Increasing quality requirements in product manufacturing and sampling are constantly presenting producers with new challenges. For mixing, pelletising, coating and granulating processes, it is important to know the exact process conditions in terms of moisture, temperature and homogeneity so that these can then be taken into account precisely and accurately in process control or process development. Compact measuring unit The particular development challenge for Ludwig GmbH was to generate a measuring unit that was as compact as possible and could be installed in even the smallest process preparation machines, e.g. for recipe testing in laboratory mixers. In recent years, very positive experience has already been gained with comparable measuring units for mixing systems from 300 to 5000 litres. The challenge now was to transform this system into a miniaturised version. Complex challenge The use of state-of-the-art electronics and materials was essential.

Easy emptying and dosing of poorly flowing bulk from bags and sacks
Empty, Prepare, Dispense - Done. With this industrial plant emptying big bags and sacks and the precise dosing of poorly flowing bulk materials is becoming child’s play. Precise dosing and gentle conveying of raw materials to the mixer determine the quality of the end product. All the more so if high-quality films are to be made from them later. If just one of the many parameters is not correct, this can lead to problems not only in film production, but also in the subsequent application. A new system was needed to automatically feed the raw materials to the mixer. And it was a complex one: three bag and three big bag emptying stations, discharge devices, straining screens, dosing screws and a 25-meter-long conveyor line are just some of the features of the complex solution. Automatic system for the addition of salt to sauce mixers
Incorrect dosing does not occur and the risk of scalding when handling hot sauces in mixing containers is avoided. Adding small amounts of salt to a sauce intensifies the flavours of the different ingredients. However, it is important not to add too much salt. With an automatic feed system, the amount of salt can be controlled at all times. It also replaces manual handling. Incorrect dosing does not occur and the risk of scalding when handling hot sauces in mixing containers is avoided. A precision dosing device discharges the salt from a silo and adds the required batch quantity to a weighed vessel below. The vessel now serves as a conveying vessel for the pneumatic dense phase conveying system. With the proven Gericke PulseFlow PTA system, the salt is conveyed at low air velocities of typically 4 - 12 m/s through the pipework directly into the various liquid mixers with hot liquid. The respective liquid mixer can be selected with diverter valves and the required amount of salt can be added. The Gericke PulseFlow PTA conveying system not only maintains the particle size

Phenomenon of shrinking bulk solids in silos
Have you ever experienced mystery? A container has been filled with bulk material, after some time the level was checked again and it has decreased. Astonishingly, nothing had been removed? Actually, this sounds familiar to all of us, doesn´t it? The flour in mum´s storage tin has changed its level over time along with flow characteristics. When turning the can upside down - the flour still stays unperturbed. What happened? The flour has settled, the air in the gaps has escaped, the filling level has decreased and the bulk density has increased. Bulk solids specialists refer to this observation as the ”time consolidation of bulk solids”, which is important for silo design and the dimensioning of discharging systems. Another key variable in the design of the silo and the peripheral technology is the moisture content of the bulk material. This can be determined, using various standard methods of sampling and oven drying, drying scales or sophisticated electronic measuring methods. We have been offering measurement technology for bulk solids since the 1990s. The underlying TRIME technology has been continuously improved over the last 40 years

Durability of chain conveyors, a practical case
Long service life and lower energy consumption by using a plastic base plate. 15 year of mais conveying proves the benefits. By applying a complete plastic wear plate to the base of the chain conveyor, a long service life of the base is achieved. The chain is supported over the entire surface and not only glides over the chain links, but the flights also carry along. Energy consumption has been shown to be around 20 % lower than with other systems. The friction of the product over the plastic is lower than over steel. An example of the service life We supplied chain conveyors to Tate & Lyle for their maize soaking tubs. After 15 years, we had to replace the plastic floor of the main distribution chain. There, 1,300 tonnes of maize are handled every day, 340 days a year, which is almost 5 million tonnes in total, and only then is the first simple maintenance of the plastic parts required. Maize contains a lot of sand and abrasive material.

Fertilizer with high production rate and product purity How do you achieve maximum product purity and high throughput rates when screening hygroscopic diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP)?
Fertilizer with high production rate and product purity
How do you achieve maximum product purity and high throughput rates when screening hygroscopic diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP)? Diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP) is an essential component of many fertilizer compositions due to its high phosphorus and nitrogen content. When screening DAP, producers are faced with the challenge of ensuring fine and homogeneous particle sizes, while at the same time guaranteeing a high production rate and product purity. Challenges in the sieving of DAP Screening DAP is technically challenging as the material is hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the ambient air and has a tendency to form agglomerates. These agglomerations make it difficult for the material to pass through the screen meshes and impair the efficiency of the screening process. In addition, high throughput rates can lead to blinding and clogging of the screen mesh, which can result in the screening process having to be completely interrupted, bringing the entire production process to a standstill. Precise screening using innovative technology RHEWUM specializes in screening challenging
