Poeth Hammermill line for residual flows from breweries/malthouses
Poeth delivered a hammer mill line for grinding high-quality residual flows such as malt germ from breweries/malthouses. The line will have a grinding capacity of 14 tons/hour. In the preliminary phase, extensive tests were carried out in Poeth’s test facility, so that the correct configuration could be determined. A weighing screw ensures controlled pre-dosing of the mill with an accuracy of 1-2%. After grinding the product, the water is added to a solid-liquid mixer in the correct ratio via a flow meter and finally pumped to a bulk truck, where it can be delivered in liquid form to the animal feed industry. Malt sprouts, also known as germs or sprouts, are the first small green shoots that sprout from malt grains during the germination process. These germinating grains are often used in making malt extract or brewing beer. The nutritional value of malt sprouts varies, but in general they contain a good amount of nutrients, including protein, fiber, vitamins

Tripod-based measurement of bulk solids with TILAS3D
Volume measurement of bulk solids at any location Our TILAS3D tripod-based measuring system is suitable for measuring bulk solids outside of defined areas. Unlike stationary fixed scanning systems, our tripod-based system can measure bulk solids at any location and with high accuracy. The scanning system is placed on or next to the material to be measured. Depending on the situation, several scans may be necessary until all surfaces have been captured. Our intelligent projection system ensures that the individual scans can be combined with little effort. The scan data is projected in the same direction in which the scanner ”looks” at the material. Missing areas within scanned surfaces can be calculated by the software using interpolation. Once all scans have been combined, the volume of the bulk solids can be calculated. To do this, click on any position on the scan surface to determine the height of the reference plane. It is also possible to create an inclined plane or any other geometry as a reference

VEGAPULS 6X: High precision despite high temperatures
The VEGAPULS 6X radar sensor in the new high-temperature version offers a solution for processes with temperatures of up to 450 °C. There are applications that push level measurement to its limits. Until recently, this included a process called iron briquetting, where it was almost impossible to achieve reliable measuring results due to extreme temperatures. That has changed. Now, the new high-temperature version of radar sensor VEGAPULS 6X provides a groundbreaking solution for processes at temperatures up to 450 °C. Sponge iron is an intermediate product in steel production. To store or transport it economically, it is often processed into briquettes. The technique involves passing the porous, spongy mass through heat-resistant roller presses at temperatures of 400 °C and higher. New solution for an old problem For many years, precise level measurement was the bottleneck in this process. Conventional measurement technology was not able to function reliably under the harsh conditions, because in addition to the heat, the low conductivity of iron also proved to be an impediment. For challenging

Digitalising the moisture measurement of bulk solids
App-controlled microwave measuring method. Franz Ludwig GmbH specialises in the measurement of moisture in bulk solids in a wide range of applications. Building material manufacturers, glass and chemical plants are among the internationally orientated customer base. Agriculture is also a growing field of activity with regard to smart farming and the associated automation of work processes. This very long and intensive involvement with the subject of moisture measurement in industrial applications in terms of precision, durability, robustness and user-friendliness predestines Ludwig to develop and manufacture the moisture measurement technology described below. The microwave measurement method, which has been tried and tested for years and operates in the 433 MHz frequency range, serves as the basis for the measurement technology. It utilises the dielectric constant of water, which has a permittivity value of µr 80. This number indicates how strongly electric fields propagate in materials. Due to the high permittivity of water, the microwave measurement method is suitable for determining the moisture content of

The Foeth Program team is providing its services to a leading producer of coatings for the automotive industry located in Germany. Currently 1.249 tonnes of CO2 saved with this project The Foeth Program team is providing its services to a leading producer of coatings for the automotive industry located in Germany. Due to consilidation of production and relocation to Spain, the task of dismantling and clearing the entire plant, including the sale of all equipment located within, is executed by Foeth. The owner of the plant, SCHRAMM Coatings, has been active for over 200 years and is specialized in coatings for plastic, metal, electrical isolation and aluminium coils, which are predominantly found in the automobile industry. As car-coatings are made with solvents, most of the equipment is ATEX. After a takeover in 2011, many investments have been made and as a result, more recent equipment can be found in the catalogue as well. The equipment cleared from the plant by Foeth is of German make and can be redeployed immediately in a variety of other industries. Foeth Program’s experts have listed the entire inventory that has become available from

Celebrating 50 years of excellence in Bulk Materials Handling
2024 marks 50 years from when the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology first came into existence. The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology was originally a department within the School of Engineering at what used to be Thames Polytechnic, later to become the University of Greenwich. At this time, in 1974, the office and laboratories were based in Woolwich, where they remained until their relocation to Medway in Kent in 2005. The department was set up initially at the request of the then Head of School who had completed his PhD in 2 phase solid gas flow and discovered that the Polytechnic did not cater for this discipline. He therefore appointed people to continue this stream of Research which in turn led to research into general bulk materials handling, and the Bulk Solids Handling Unit was born. It was not until 1989 that the Wolfson Centre name was added, thanks to funding from the Wolfson Foundation. Although the people, the location and the department name may have changed throughout it’s 50 year history, the aim of the Centre has remained

Switzerland soon to be ice-free?
Silo conveyor system for bagging road salt. System conversion required only load cells for silos and intelligent control system. Our customer, a logistics company for agricultural products and manufacturer of special road salt, is based in Switzerland. The special thing about this salt is that it retains its effectiveness even at temperatures below -8 degrees Celsius. Two raw materials are mixed and bagged in our facilities on site. Using an intelligent control system, SSB has succeeded in controlling the existing silo discharge screws in such a way that the finished product can be conveyed directly from the conveyor without the need for additional mixer silos. On the customer side, the system conversion required for this only involved the weight recording of the component silos via load load cells and the intelligent control system from SSB. The savings and efficiency are considerable, as the customer can dispense with the mixer and delivery silos in future. The finished product is stored in silos and filled into 25kg sacks or big bags. What can we pack for you?
