RHEWUM supports aid association for meals at local schools
Employees of RHEWUM collected donations for a good cause during the pre-Christmas season As in past years, the employees of RHEWUM collected donations for a good cause during the pre-Christmas season and thereby help to ensure that children from low-income families at the local schools in Remscheid get a healthy breakfast and lunch. Since 2006, the association known as “Möhrchen” (=baby carrot) has supported children at primary and secondary schools as well as schools for children with learning difficulties whose parents cannot afford their meals. By offering a balanced breakfast and warm lunch, these children have the opportunity to attend the classes with much more concentration and power. This year, “Mörchen” became 11 years old and can be proud of having enabled 1 million meals to children in Remscheid. Like in the year 2016, RHEWUM’s staff has collected eagerly for this local association. The donation has been doubled by the management so that a sum of 2,000 euros can be given to the children at Remscheid’s schools.

Cross-Over Wye Line Diverters Replace Hose Manifold Station Wye Line Diverters Handling Flour Pre-Mix
Cross-Over Wye Line Diverters Replace Hose Manifold Station
Wye Line Diverters Handling Flour Pre-Mix Client: A national doughnut chain. Valve Size: •Vortex Cross-Over Wye Line Diverter: 6 in. (152 mm) •Vortex Four-Way Wye Line Diverters (qty. 2): 6 in. (152 mm) Features (Cross-Over Wye Line Diverter): •Diverter body constructed from stainless steel. •Material contact areas constructed from stainless steel. •Straight leg diverting design. Features (Four-Way Wye Line Diverters): •Diverter body constructed from stainless steel. •Material contact areas constructed from stainless steel. Application: Pneumatically convey various grades of flour from two sources toward any of eight destinations, for packing. Challenge: Rather than a hose manifold station, automate the process of switching convey paths for materials traveling toward several packing stations. Results: The client’s desired automation was found in Vortex Wye Line Diverters.  In this client’s process, various grades of flour mix arrive via bulk container…

Improvement of the Corrosion Resistance
Entrapment of Hard Particles into Cr(VI)-Free Conversion Layers Due to the restriction of passive layers containing Cr6+ [1], which were characterized by excellent corrosion protection due to their self-healing effect for scratches on metal surfaces, current corrosion protection systems consist of chromium (III) -containing thick layer passivation. Due to their lower hardness, current corrosion protection systems are susceptible to mechanical stress. This is particularly critical at barrel plating of screws, rivets etc. where the manufacturing process leads to damages of the corrosion protection layer and consequently to reduced corrosion resistance. To counter this problem, we point out one approach to install hard particles into the passivation layer. The entrapment of the hard particles into the passivation is detected by Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry. Comparative investigations in the corrosion chamber prove the improvement of the corrosion protection of steel parts with passivation layers containing hard particles…

Fresh ideas in particle and dispersion sciences Nominated for LUM Young Scientist Award 2018
Fresh ideas in particle and dispersion sciences
Nominated for LUM Young Scientist Award 2018 The 8th International Conference Dispersion Analysis & Materials Testing is hosted by LUM GmbH in Berlin, Germany, from 29-30 January 2018. Here, during this now traditional interdisciplinary event, particle scientists meet product formulators; application engineers meet scholars from extremely different application areas. All have in common the use of STEP-Technology® for particle and dispersion characterization respectively the use of CAT-Technology® for the timesaving determination of adhesion forces and composite strength. Both technologies developed by LUM. Once again, one highlight of the event will be the session dedicated to Young Scientist Award 2018. This prize is donated by LUM GmbH for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of particle and dispersion analysis and materials testing. From all applicants the best four candidates were nominated and invited to discuss their results during the conference. Sophie Kühne from TU Bergakademie Freiberg…

Packed fragrances provided a fresh breeze Spray granulation, (micro) encapsulation and spray coating of flavors and fragrances
Packed fragrances provided a fresh breeze
Spray granulation, (micro) encapsulation and spray coating of flavors and fragrances At the Berlin Congress of the European Professional Association SEPAWA, plant manufacturer Glatt Ingenieurtechnik presented case studies and project examples for processing, protecting and refining cleansing substances, stabilizers, enzymes, polymers, scent, flavoring and other active ingredients. Glatt’s fluidized bed and spouted bed plants are multi-talents in particle design: they granulate, coat, dry and functionalize powders and liquids in a single step. In an industry that lives up to new standards, the fluidized bed and spouted bed technologies of the plant manufacturer Glatt Ingenieurtechnik offer unique opportunities: They contribute to optimizing raw materials for new formulations, help to ensure functions and protect valuable ingredients. They improve the solubility and make sure that ingredients are homogeneously distributed in particles with a broad, precisely adjustable grain size spectrum. In addition, enhanced substances can be compacted and dosed…
