Major purchase order for Pergande GmbH
PERGANDE was able to secure the largest order tendered in the chemical industry in 2005; this order had a volume of 24 single filters (dust filter). The equipment was supplied between January 16 and February 28, 2006. Some of these filter had dimensions of up to 5,500 mm in diameter and 17,000 mm in length. Presently, the largest low bed trucks in Germany are transporting these filters to the site of installation. This equipment was made of pressure and shock resistant material (alloy no. 1.4571) and ground and polished on the inside. Based on high customer satisfaction we will be commissioned with the construction of other major installations.

First time at Analytica for Malvern`s Morphologi G2
First time at Analytica for Malvern`s Morphologi G2
At Analytica 2006 (25-28 April 2006, Munich) Malvern Instruments will exhibit the Morphologi G2 high sensitivity particle image analyzer, introducing its newly extended measurement range accessory kit. The Morphologi G2 is based on digital image analysis and automated microscopy. It measures particle size using circle equivalent diameter, and employs a variety of parameters for particle shape analysis. This enables the determination and quantification of even small differences between particles. The Morphologi G2’s new extended range accessory kit comprises a low magnification objective and wide field of view condenser element. This widens the dynamic range considerably by extending the upper limit of measurement from 1000 to 3000 microns., expanding the number and type of applications. With a focus on biotechnology and life science applications, Malvern’s Zetasizer Nano will be amongst the systems on display. The Zetasizer Nano is now the most widely used

EDF Power Station in Blénod, France: KOCH Pipe Conveyor Provides Ecologically Friendly Coal Transport
EDF Power Station in Blénod, France:
KOCH Pipe Conveyor Provides Ecologically Friendly Coal Transport More and more, communities living near power stations complain about trucks carrying coal to the plant: At EDF`s plant in Blénod, France, a KOCH Pipe Conveyor has solved this problem. Instead of delivering the coal for the 4x250 MW power station in 100 daily truck transports, the fuel is hauled directly by an enclosed system stretching from the unloading point to the coal stockpile. The KOCH Pipe Conveyor picks up the coal at the unloading dock on the Mosel River. The belt closes immediately after the material feeding point, and remains tightly shut throughout the entire transport. Along the 1.2 km route, the conveyor line cleaves closely to the land: It curves gently along the course of the Mosel River, springs over wetlands, a public road and a railroad system until it reaches the power station – without needing a single transfer point. At the wetlands, the posts are some 40 m apart to minimize the impact on the natural habitat. Nor did the Pipe Conveyor

Ehcolo High capacity palletisers
2000 bags per hour all sizes of bags in all patterns There is palletisers which is designated for one single product and then it is possible to design the palletiser for very high capacity. Ehcolo have late 2005 supplied 2 palletisers, which have a capacity of up to 2000 bags per hour and that is for any size 5 -25 kgs, in any pattern and on any size of pallet. This is made possible by further development mechanically and on our control in combination with SEW drives. As bagging machines, specially FFS machines reach ever higher capacities, then our goal is to always have palletisers, which fits to the bagging capacity, and preferably a bit higher and that we have. For certain products, it is now also possible to connect two bagging machines to one palletiser instead of two palletisers and that is a major saving. Orders for Robot palletisers is queing up, our new developed pick-up/lay-off system has paid off. The automatic filling of display cardboard boxes 800x1200xH1500 mm or 800x600xH1500 mm has been possible

Fully automated wall friction measurement using FT4 Powder Rheometer
Fully automated wall friction measurement using FT4 Powder Rheometer
A new module for the Freeman Technology FT4 Powder Rheometer allows fast, fully automated measurement of wall friction using standard or custom materials in contact with powders under test. Wall friction is important both in the design of processing plant and in predicting how a powder will process in a given plant. In all processing machinery, powder is required to flow within containing surfaces such as hoppers, chutes and pipes. The frictional resistance between a given surface and the powder moving over it can be important in determining the smoothness or consistency of the powder transfer process. This frictional resistance depends on the powder characteristics, the material from which the surface is made, its finish and any surface treatments. The FT4’s new wall friction module allows experimental measurement of frictional resistance with a test time of around 10 minutes. A 48 mm diameter disc of the appropriate material and finish is used to compress

Increased options for automated fluidized bed control as Parsum demonstrate
Increased options for automated fluidized bed control as Parsum demonstrate
Recent trials have demonstrated that the Parsum inline particle size analyzer (Malvern Instruments) can be used successfully to monitor particle growth in a fluidized bed. As part of a joint development project between Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH, Weimar, and Parsum GmbH, Chemnitz, the use of inline particle size measurement was investigated, under various operating conditions. Complex flow regimes, high humidity and a very broad particle size distribution combine to make the measurement of particles within this environment a significant challenge. In tests involving the monitoring of lactose granulation the Parsum probe tracked particle growth throughout the entire process, generating data that opens up options for automated control. Fluidized bed granulation is a widely used unit operation, particularly in the pharmaceutical, food and speciality chemical industries, but process control is frequently problematic and based on operator experience or trial and

Osaka University team uses Zetasizer Nano for protein screening
Osaka University team uses Zetasizer Nano for protein screening
A research team in Japan has published work that illustrates the utility of Malvern Instruments’ Zetasizer Nano particle characterization system in assessing the suitability of a protein sample for crystallization. While protein crystallization is a prerequisite for molecular structure determination using X-ray diffraction techniques, it is a time-consuming activity that traditionally involves screening many different buffer conditions to define the ideal. Studies to assess the role of the Zetasizer Nano in this screening process were carried out at the Institute of Protein Research at Osaka University (Professor Nakagawa’s group), in conjunction with Maruwa Food Industries and the Sysmex Corporation of Japan. Measurement of particle size by dynamic and static light scattering methods is known to be an effective method in the evaluation of whether or not a sample is suitable for crystallization. The Zetasizer Nano uses both static and dynamic light scattering
