Elimination of angel hair (streamers) and elbow wear Pelletron introduce a unique and patented conveying pipeline elbow that is trade named the Pellbow™. It is especially designed to minimize damage caused when solid particles are injected into a high velocity conveying system — the higher the velocity, the more dust and streamers are formed in elbows. Design Principle: The Pelletron design creates a streamlined pocket shape by enlarging the bend at the incoming point in order to produce a soft layer of pellets just before they impact the angular target zone. A Malvern Zetasizer Nano particle characterization system at Cornell University’s NanoBioTechnology Center (NBTC) is being used for a wide variety of applications. These range from DNA size measurement and the study of DNA-DNA interactions, through the development of photonic crystal lattices, to the creation of cylindrical nanoparticles. The system has been in place for just over one year and around 80 researchers now have access to it. Many had no previous experience of light scattering systems, so the Zetasizer Nano’s easy operation and straightforward data interpretation have been crucial in making this a truly valuable resource for such diverse research groups. Incorporation into pneumatic transport lines The magnet filter recently developed by Goudsmit Magnetic Systems B.V. from Waalre can be used in pipelines and serves to deferrise raw materials that are transported under pressure. The filter helps to check incoming raw materials as well as the end product before it is sent to the client. Pneumatic pipelines offer many options for a variety of built-in features. The transports may be ten or twenty metres long. There was a fear that the product would pass the magnets too fast so that the ferrous particles could not be caught, but that fear has proved unfounded. Combination of magnet and metal detector for reaching the HACCP standard Goudsmit has recently developed a fully automatic rotating clean-flow magnet which removes ferrous particles from egg powder. This new magnet type for continuous production processes can be cleaned automatically.. Moreover, the company can supply the magnet in combination with a metal detector so the product is finally checked just before loading and no metal contamination is left in the product. Substances which are sticky and irregular in shape, as for instance egg powder, form a bridge over the magnet rods as they are mounted above each other in a staggered position. The rotating movement prevents the product from sticking on the rods. The system is suited for 40 m3 powder per hour and is of course executed in an extremely hygienic version.

Wear resistant pumps for solids handling or high pressure In the bulk handling branch things get tough. The wear on the equipment is severe due to solid and abrasive dust. Water plays a major part during the handling of dry bulk. No customer likes to see his coal or iron ore in a pool of water during heavy rainfall. During dry seasons, dust fighting becomes an important issue. The formation of dust will cause problems with authorities and surrounding companies or urban areas. A diversity of bulk handling companies like EMO, OVET and OBA relies on Pioneer pumps for dust fighting by high pressure pumps and emergency pumping by diesel driven trailer sets with high solids handling capacity. At EMO and OVET Pioneer pumps are used for dust fighting by pumping water with a capacity of 200 m³/h at 15 bar through a water canon.
