Rettar Joins FieldCommGroup for Better Device Interoperability

Rettar joins FieldCommGroup. HART, Foundation Fieldbus and FDI support helps integrate its Spatial 3D Scanners and Radar Single-Point Level Transmitters into existing DCS, PLC and SCADA systems.
Rettar has officially joined FieldCommGroup, marking an important milestone in its commitment to international industrial communication standards. Through its engagement with HART, Foundation Fieldbus, and Field Device Integration (FDI) technologies, Rettar reinforces its focus on delivering interoperable and integration-ready industrial measurement solutions.

This milestone supports the integration of Rettar's Spatial 3D Scanners and Radar Single-Point Level Transmitters into existing plant automation infrastructures, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platforms.

Advancing Industrial Device Interoperability

FieldCommGroup is an international industry organization responsible for developing and maintaining communication standards that enable interoperability between field devices and industrial automation systems.

Its technology ecosystem includes HART, Foundation Fieldbus, and FDI, which are widely adopted across process industries.

For sectors such as mining, cement, power generation, chemicals, and bulk material handling, standardized communication is essential for integrating instruments into complex automation environments. Rettar's membership reflects its commitment to established industry frameworks and long-term system compatibility.

Supporting HART and Foundation Fieldbus Integration

The HART protocol combines digital communication with traditional 4–20 mA analog signaling, allowing Radar Single-Point Level Transmitters to deliver process measurements alongside configuration and diagnostic information.
Key advantages include:
  • Dual communication:
Transmits process values while supporting digital device configuration.
  • Simplified integration:
Enables communication with compatible DCS, PLC, and asset management systems.
  • Improved diagnostics:
Provides access to device parameters and diagnostic information.
  • Easier maintenance:
Supports commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.

For Rettar's Spatial 3D Scanners, Foundation Fieldbus provides a standardized digital communication framework for compatible devices. Combined with appropriate device descriptions and host-system support, it enables structured access to measurement data and device information.

This is particularly valuable in applications involving silos, stockpiles, coal sheds, and large storage facilities, where 3D surface mapping provides greater inventory visibility than single-point measurement.

Simplifying Device Management Through FDI

Field Device Integration (FDI) provides a standardized framework for configuring and managing industrial field devices through compatible host applications.
Standardized DD/FDI device packages help engineering teams:
  • Accelerate commissioning through structured device configuration.
  • Simplify maintenance with accessible device parameters and diagnostics.
  • Improve troubleshooting through standardized device information.
  • Enhance interoperability across multi-vendor automation environments.
These capabilities help reduce engineering complexity in facilities operating instruments from different manufacturers.

Building More Connected Industrial Measurement Solutions

For instrumentation engineers, system integrators, and plant operators, selecting measurement equipment involves more than accuracy. Integration compatibility, commissioning efficiency, and long-term maintainability are equally important.

Rettar's FieldCommGroup membership reinforces its commitment to these requirements, helping industrial facilities incorporate advanced measurement technologies into existing automation architectures.

Actual compatibility depends on each device's supported communication interface, available DD/FDI packages, and host-system capabilities.

Accurate Silo Level Measurement for Glass Cullet & Calcite Powder Rettar's 3DPro2300 Easy radar scanner measures glass cullet piles and calcite powder silos in 3D. 80 GHz multi-point scanning works through dust and maps uneven surfaces for accurate, automated inventory data.
Accurate Silo Level Measurement for Glass Cullet & Calcite Powder
Rettar's 3DPro2300 Easy radar scanner measures glass cullet piles and calcite powder silos in 3D. 80 GHz multi-point scanning works through dust and maps uneven surfaces for accurate, automated inventory data. Plant managers in glass processing and calcium carbonate facilities regularly face a difficult trade-off: stopping production for manual inventory checks or relying on inaccurate estimates. In calcite powder silos, dense dust clouds cause standard sensors to output unstable readings. Meanwhile, jagged, uneven piles of glass cullet make single-point devices blind to true material volume. To overcome these daily operational gaps, the Rettar 3DPro2300 Easy Radar Scanner applies multi-point FMCW radar scanning to capture true surface modeling and provide automated 3D inventory calculations. Inventory Measurement Challenges in Glass Cullet and Calcite Silos Calcium Carbonate Powder Silos Calcium carbonate production generates heavy dust during filling and handling. Depending on installation conditions and sensor types, dust significantly disrupts measurement performance. Additionally, material buildup on silo walls distorts volumetric calculations, making it difficult for…

How a Multi-Scanner Matrix Improves Coal Stockpile Measurement Rettar's multi-scanner system precisely measures bulk coal stockpiles in large sheds. Coordinated sensors provide comprehensive mapping for accurate volume estimation.
How a Multi-Scanner Matrix Improves Coal Stockpile Measurement
Rettar's multi-scanner system precisely measures bulk coal stockpiles in large sheds. Coordinated sensors provide comprehensive mapping for accurate volume estimation. Thermal power plants rely on effective fuel supply and inventory management to maintain stable operations throughout the year. Inside massive coal sheds, stacker-reclaimers continuously build and reshape stockpiles, creating irregular ridges, steep slopes, and uneven surfaces. Variations in humidity, material characteristics, and operating conditions can further complicate stockpile management. The challenge is not simply measuring the distance between a sensor and the coal surface. It is determining how much coal is stored across an extensive area. A single distance sensor captures only a limited perspective, making it difficult to represent an entire stockpile accurately. Rettar's multi-scanner system addresses this limitation through coordinated measurements from multiple positions. Coal Inventory Measurement Challenges in Large Coal Sheds Several practical challenges can undermine coal inventory measurement. * Irregular stockpile geometry. Stacker-reclaimers create…

3D Material Mapping: Precision Inventory Control for Feed Silos Traditional silo level measurements are inaccurate due to dust, buildup, and uneven surfaces. 3D mapping accurately measures bulk volume for better inventory.
3D Material Mapping: Precision Inventory Control for Feed Silos
Traditional silo level measurements are inaccurate due to dust, buildup, and uneven surfaces. 3D mapping accurately measures bulk volume for better inventory. Reliable inventory data is the backbone of efficient feed production. However, traditional level measurements often fail to reveal the actual quantity of material inside a silo. Irregular filling patterns, heavy dust, material buildup, and uneven surfaces distort conventional readings, creating significant blind spots for feed manufacturers handling abrasive bulk materials in enclosed environments. While traditional point-level switches and single-point transmitters indicate general status, they cannot reconstruct the complete material surface. 3D material mapping offers a comprehensive solution, capturing true bulk volume to drive more informed supply chain decisions. The Hidden Challenges Inside Feed Silos Feed silos rarely contain flat material surfaces. Material accumulates unevenly during filling, shifts during discharge, and forms slopes or irregular contours that skew standard measurements. Key operational challenges include: * Heavy dust: Airborne particles interfere…

Na22 Density Meter: Tackling Difficult Slurry Measurement Rettar's Na22 Density Meter measures abrasive, high-viscosity tungsten slurry in a vertical pipeline without contact: clamp-on mounting, energy spectrum detection, accuracy of ≤ ±1% and an exemption-level source below 1,000 kBq.
Na22 Density Meter: Tackling Difficult Slurry Measurement
Rettar's Na22 Density Meter measures abrasive, high-viscosity tungsten slurry in a vertical pipeline without contact: clamp-on mounting, energy spectrum detection, accuracy of ≤ ±1% and an exemption-level source below 1,000 kBq. Reliable slurry density measurement is essential for process monitoring in mining and mineral processing. However, highly abrasive materials, high viscosity, and challenging pipeline configurations can make stable, representative measurements difficult to achieve. In this tungsten ore processing application, the material was fine slime—a high-viscosity slurry containing extremely fine, abrasive particles—flowing vertically downward through a pipeline. These conditions demanded a measurement solution that could address material wear, flow-related uncertainty, and operational safety without disrupting the production process. The Na22 Density Meter combines non-contact clamp-on installation, advanced energy spectrum detection, and an exemption-level gamma radiation source to address these application requirements. High-Viscosity, Abrasive Tungsten Slurry Avoiding Wear and Clogging Tungsten ore fine slime presents significant challenges for conventional wetted sensors.…

Fix Silo Inventory Blind Spots with Real-Time 3D Mapping Conveyor scales and point sensors create false bulk solids inventory in silos. Rettar's 3D radar maps the full material surface for precise volume.
Fix Silo Inventory Blind Spots with Real-Time 3D Mapping
Conveyor scales and point sensors create false bulk solids inventory in silos. Rettar's 3D radar maps the full material surface for precise volume. The Inventory Illusion: Why Scale Calculations Leave You Blind Relying purely on conveyor belt scales to track silo stock creates a dangerous tracking illusion. On paper, your numbers balance. In reality, two major issues are constantly throwing off your inventory: * Scale Drift & Belt Tension: Moisture, material buildup on rollers, and mechanical belt stretch create small hourly errors. Over a week, these "tiny" errors snowball into massive accounting variances. * Unseen Surface Topography: Scales can’t see what’s happening inside the silo. Material rarely stacks in a perfect, symmetrical cone. Single-point radar sensors don't help much either—they only measure distance to a single spot on a complex, uneven pile, leaving massive volumetric blind spots. The Bottom Line: When you manage inventory by calculating mass flow instead of measuring the actual physical heap inside, you're managing blindly. Operations are often forced to take massive quarterly write-offs…
