DLG test confirms accuracy of IMKO inline moisture sensor

The DLG has awarded its DLG-APPROVED test mark to the TRIME-GWs in-line moisture measurement system from IMKO Micromodultechnik for continuous moisture measurement in wheat, barley, and rapeseed.

DLG test mark awarded

The DLG Test Centre has awarded the DLG-APPROVED mark to the TRIME-GWs in-line moisture measurement system developed by IMKO Micromodultechnik GmbH. In comparative laboratory testing, the system demonstrated reliable measurement accuracy for continuous moisture detection in wheat, barley, and rapeseed across important drying and storage moisture ranges.

System setup and technical features

The TRIME-GWs system comprises a measuring transducer housed in an IP65 pressure-die-cast aluminium enclosure, a probe with stainless steel rods (IP68), and a display and configuration unit usable as a tabletop or wall-mounted device. Operating on a 9 to 24 V DC power supply, it covers a moisture measurement range of 5 to 45% and probe temperatures up to 120 °C (short-term up to 150 °C).

Integration in bulk material processes

Designed for stationary installation in processing facilities such as grain dryers, storage silos, receiving hoppers, and discharge units, the system provides continuous digital moisture values. Measured data can be processed as control inputs within automated process loops, such as regulating continuous-flow dryers or driving discharge and conveyor systems.

High sampling frequency and averaging

The unit records measurements at 0.5-second intervals and automatically forms averages over configurable timeframes, typically around one minute. This averaging feature ensures consistent and reliable readings even when bulk materials exhibit uneven moisture distribution during handling and conveying.

Save efficiently on energy with targeted moisture measurement when drying for example grain, animal feed pellets, sand and sewage sludge pellets Gas is used in a huge variation of dryers. The consumption of natural gas as a primary energy source has been standard for many years. It has even been promoted as a bridge technology until the application of energetic-technological alternatives is qualified. Just recently, a customer from Saarland told me that he scrapped his oil tank last year and switched to gas. At the moment, he is facing another rise in gas prices. Help is needed here to optimise the use of this resource and possibly make intelligent savings. A calculation example from a comparable application: 1 m³ of gas is required to reduce the moisture content of 1 tonne of sand by 1%. With a throughput of 85 tonnes per hour and an average required reduction of 4 %, 340 m³ of gas are consumed per hour. Now the energy costs have doubled. The height of the bulk solids on the belt and the dwell time in the dryer are defined based on the product type and properties, and the water volume to be removed.
