EcoVadis

A Global Standard for Sustainable Corporate Governance EcoVadis has established itself as a trusted partner that helps companies assess and improve their sustainability performance. The platform provides detailed ratings, information, and tools that are essential for effectively managing risks and compliance issues in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) areas.
The assessment is based on 21 sustainability criteria, summarized into four main categories:
  • Environment: Analysis of the environmental impact of business activities and measures to reduce them.
  • Labor & Human Rights: Evaluation of working conditions, employee development, health protection, and social aspects.
  • Ethics: Review of business integrity, anti-corruption efforts, and transparent corporate governance.
  • Sustainable Procurement: Examination of the integration of sustainability criteria into supplier relationships and the entire procurement chain.

The ”Committed” status achieved by RHEWUM is a clear signal of the robustness of its sustainability management and its serious endeavor to assume ecological and social responsibility in all business areas.
Concrete Measures and Their Measurable Impact at RHEWUM RHEWUM’s commitment is manifested in a series of concrete initiatives that were particularly positively evaluated in the EcoVadis categories:

Environment

Pioneer in Green Energy: At its Remscheid site, RHEWUM operates an impressive photovoltaic system with over 1,000 modules. This system will cover up to 70 percent of its own energy needs with clean solar power in the future. In addition, the remaining electricity demand is met 100 percent by certified green electricity. The provision of e-charging stations (22 kW), also powered by green electricity, further promotes e-mobility. These measures not only significantly reduce CO2 emissions but also strengthen the company’s energy independence.

Labor & Human Rights

Valuing and Developing Employees: In this category, RHEWUM demonstrated particularly strong performance. Flexible working time models enable a better work-life balance. Extensive training opportunities promote the personal and professional development of employees, while consistent health protection measures ensure a safe and supportive working environment. Additional benefits such as subsidized e-bike leasing and remote service options not only contribute to employee well-being but also reduce travel expenses and thus environmental impact.

Ethics & Governance

Transparency as a Foundation: The consistent alignment with ESG principles and open, transparent communication are deeply embedded at RHEWUM. Tools such as the corporate publication ”RHEworld” and virtual site tours build trust among all stakeholders. This transparency enables accountable and responsible decisions that align with ethical standards.

Sustainable Procurement

Responsibility Along the Entire Supply Chain: RHEWUM relies on modern, efficient production halls and green production practices. By building and maintaining sustainable supplier relationships, the company ensures that its partners also meet high sustainability standards. This not only optimally prepares RHEWUM for future regulatory requirements but also strengthens its competitiveness through a robust and responsible supply chain.

Benefits for Partners
And the Path of Continuous Improvement. The external validation by EcoVadis offers RHEWUM’s partners concrete and measurable advantages:
  • Faster Processes: Standardized and verified documentation significantly accelerates tenders, audits, and onboarding processes.
  • Reduced Risks: Externally audited processes minimize supply chain and reputational risks throughout the entire value chain.
  • Reliable Partnership: Transparent insights into concrete measures and progress create a solid basis for long-term and trusting cooperation that goes beyond one-time promises.

RHEWUM views the EcoVadis award not as an endpoint, but as an important milestone and an incentive for continuous development. The company is committed to continuously improving its rating through regular reviews, targeted measures, and the integration of new standards. Sustainability thus remains a dynamic process that constantly adapts to new challenges and insights.

Conclusion

Sustainability with Proof – A Solid Foundation for the Future The EcoVadis award impressively confirms that at RHEWUM, sustainability is not just proclaimed but systematically implemented and lived in all business areas. This external validation builds trust and provides a reliable foundation for future-proof partnerships based on shared values and a deep understanding of ecological and social responsibility.

Sifting Machines for sugar refining: quality and sustainability
In sugar refining, quality and sustainability are key. The RHEsono screening machine excels in achieving high product purity and energy savings. INTRODUCTION In today’s sugar refining landscape, the demand for both high-quality output and sustainable practices is paramount. While the fundamental principles of sugar processing have remained consistent, the drive for enhanced efficiency and reduced environmental impact has become a focus on key areas, such as screening technology. This paper delves into the challenges and solutions associated with screening diverse sugar types, with a strong emphasis on eco-friendly screening machines that deliver superior efficiency, minimize energy consumption, and significantly lower operational costs. Recognizing that conventional screening processes, such as those used for initial washing or dewatering, are relatively straightforward, this paper focuses on the more intricate and energy-intensive screening stages involved in refining the final product. The absence of universal standards for sugar particle size distribution necessitates adaptable machinery capable of meeting

Silicosis Risk: Screeners vs. Air Sifters on Safety and Energy
Silica dust is a persistent workplace hazard. This article compares sifters with modern screening; showing how direct-excited screens achieve superior separation, lower energy demand, and better dust control, despite higher upfront costs. Why Direct‑Excited Screening Improves Safety and Energy Silicosis is a preventable occupational lung disease caused by inhaling respirable crystalline silica (quartz dust). The smallest particles can reach the alveoli, where they trigger inflammation and irreversible scarring. Sectors like cement, mining, stone, ceramics, glass, and foundries must keep respirable silica out of the air at the source—making the choice of separation technology pivotal for both safety and compliance. Sifters vs. Screening: The separation and energy trade‑offs Many lines still use sifters (air classifiers) to separate quartz‑bearing fines. While they are often cheaper to purchase, two operational drawbacks matter in silica‑sensitive applications: - Lower separation sharpness: Cut curves can broaden under variable load or moisture, allowing fine quartz to bypass into the coarse fraction or escape with process air—raising exposure risk and affecting product quality. -

Overcoming Capacity Constraints in Potash Processing
Case Study: Potash plants gain 20-30% capacity by fixing screening bottlenecks in compaction/granulation circuits. ROI typically under one year. Rising global potash demand, combined with geographically concentrated supply chains vulnerable to political disruption, has intensified the need for production optimization at existing facilities. Many operators discover that their primary capacity limitation lies not in major process equipment, but in screening operations within compaction and granulation circuits. Screening as the Primary Production Constraint Field analysis reveals that screening operations—particularly in compaction/granulation stages and final product classification—frequently constitute the primary throughput limitation in potash facilities. This constraint can be addressed through targeted interventions focusing on proper equipment sizing and material distribution optimization, rather than extensive facility reconstruction. Such projects typically achieve implementation within six-month timeframes while delivering production increases of 10–20%, with specialized configurations reaching
