Digital Transformation of Grain Silo Inventory Management

In the context of global food security and the rapid growth of smart agriculture, precise monitoring of grain levels and volumes in large-scale silos has become a strategic necessity.
Traditional manual auditing in silos, which can stand dozens of meters high and hold thousands of tons, presents severe safety risks, including dust explosions, oxygen deprivation, and grain entrapment.

The Challenge: Accuracy in High-Dust, High-Volume Storage

Grain storage environments are characterized by high dust concentrations and fluctuating temperatures. For plant managers, the primary hurdles are twofold:
  • Safety Compliance: Eliminating the need for personnel to enter hazardous confined spaces.
  • Data Fidelity: Moving away from ”estimated” volumes toward a ”digital twin” that reflects the actual shape of the grain pile.

The Solution: 3DPro2300 Radar Scanner

To address these industrial bottlenecks, RETTAR introduced the 3DPro2300 Radar Scanner, a high-frequency sensing system designed to unlock the ”digital code” of smart grain storage.
  1. 80GHz FMCW Technology for Dust Penetration; The 3DPro2300 utilizes 80GHz Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology. The short wavelength and high resolution allow the radar to penetrate thick dust and steam, ensuring that signal integrity remains unaffected by lighting or humidity. This provides a stable foundation for distance measurement.
  2. Dual-Axis Robotic Panoramic Scanning; Unlike static sensors, the 3DPro2300 features an integrated high-precision servo system. It supports 360° horizontal rotation and a ±90° vertical pitch. A single scan captures over 16,000 independent measurement points, creating a dense grid that maps the entire grain surface. This eliminates blind spots and accurately accounts for cone formations or ”bridging” within the silo.
  3. AI-Driven 3D Volumetric Modeling; The massive point cloud data is processed via RETTAR’s proprietary AI algorithms to generate a high-fidelity 3D model of the grain surface. This achieves a volume accuracy of up to ±0.5% FS. The system integrates seamlessly with ERP and WMS via 4-20mA, RS485, or Ethernet, enabling fully automated inventory logs.

Value Realization: Safety and Operational Efficiency

  • Zero-Climb Safety: Achieving a truly ”unmanned” audit process, removing workers from high-risk environments.
  • Operational Speed: Inventory cycles are reduced from hours to under 10 minutes, improving silo turnover rates by over 30%.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Real-time 3D visualizations and historical trend curves allow managers to predict potential blockage or overflow, optimizing production scheduling.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Provides unalterable inventory logs that meet strict food safety and government oversight requirements.

The implementation of the 3DPro2300 transitions grain facilities into a new era of management.

3DPro2501: A New Era in Digital Inventory Intelligence
In the vast and complex landscape of mining and aggregate yards, achieving efficient resource supervision and precise measurement is a long-standing industry challenge. Traditional methods are often hindered by low visibility, high labor costs, and data lag, making it difficult to meet the needs of modern dynamic management. Today, Beijing Rettar Technology Co., Ltd. (RETTAR) is transforming these operations with the 3DPro2501 Laser Scanner, bringing a new level of vitality to industrial monitoring. Visibility and Data Gaps in Mining Mining and aggregate yards are at the core of resource extraction, where efficiency directly impacts safety and profitability. In these environments, heavy dust is a constant—especially during blasting or heavy machinery operations. This poor visibility makes volume estimation and stockpile assessment extremely difficult. Conventional manual measurements are not only slow but often inaccurate due to environmental interference. As global regulations on resource management tighten, industries need a transition from ”static records” to ”real-time dynamic monitoring.” 3DPro2501 Laser Scanner

RETTAR 3DPro2300: Solving Dust Challenges in Soybean Meal Silos RETTAR introduces the 3DPro2300, a 3D scanner designed to overcome material adhesion and irregular surfaces in soybean meal silos, offering feed and livestock industries enhanced inventory accuracy.
RETTAR 3DPro2300: Solving Dust Challenges in Soybean Meal Silos
RETTAR introduces the 3DPro2300, a 3D scanner designed to overcome material adhesion and irregular surfaces in soybean meal silos, offering feed and livestock industries enhanced inventory accuracy. In the bulk solids sector, accurate volume measurement of soybean meal is often hindered by fine particle adhesion and the formation of irregular material cones or bridges. These factors frequently lead to signal attenuation and significant data discrepancies when using traditional point-level sensors. Advanced Scanning Technology for Full Silo Visibility The 3DPro2300 utilizes a rotational scan covering 360° horizontally and ±90° vertically to eliminate blind spots. This ”visual engine” provides a comprehensive map of the silo interior, capturing material sticking to walls and uneven piles to ensure data integrity. Design Focused on Maintenance and Safety The scanner features a compact, non-invasive design requiring only a small roof opening. To support industrial safety, it includes remote self-diagnostics and status indicators, allowing engineers to monitor hardware health without entering high-dust, hazardous environments. Discover how RETTAR’s 3D Radar Scanning technology provides real-time “X-ray vision” for industrial silos, ensuring 98% accuracy in even the most challenging environments. In the global grain, brewing, and feed industries, managing deep silos is a constant challenge. When dealing with thousands of tons of sorghum or other bulk materials, managers often struggle with ”invisible inventory”—data that is estimated rather than measured. Traditional methods are either dangerously manual or technologically insufficient to handle the irregular surfaces of bulk solids. 5 Core Challenges Solved by RETTAR Technology # Safety First: Manual inventory checks involve high risks of dust explosions, oxygen deficiency, and falls. RETTAR enables ”unmanned” auditing. # Surface Irregularity: Single-point sensors cannot ”see” the peaks and valleys of material piles. The 3DPro2300 maps the entire surface for true volume calculation.
