Accumulated wood chips are transported to a designated storage area via a series of chain conveyors. These chain conveyors need to be monitored with modern and robust measurement technology. Namely, an indicator that functions as a full detector is required in the transfer chutes in order to detect a blockage with the wood chips in good time. New sensor for flow monitoring in thin pipelines
ENVEA presents the FlowJam T, the new sensor for powder flow monitoring in flexible pipelines. Due to its small size, the FlowJam T can be easily mounted around thin hose lines. It can be used for all pipelines made of electrically non-conductive material, such as plastic or rubber, with outside diameters between 4 and 25 mm. The FlowJam T detects all types of solid streams that move through the detection area. Detection is achieved, regardless of the direction of movement, by the triboelectric discharges of the particles. The material movement in non-metalic pipelines is displayed as a trend at the analogue output and as a switching state at the relay. Via the trend output, whether more or less material is conveyed through the tube, for example, can be displayed. The material flow can also be observed for uniform distribution. In addition, the relay contact output provides additional Flow/No Flow information. The FlowJam T is a compact device and is connected via an 8-pin plug. The 4B Milli-Speed Switch, a loop powered 4 - 20 mA analogue output speed switch for PLC, DCS or stand-alone controllers is now available as ATEX version. The Milli-Speed switch is designed to detect belt slip, belt underspeed, stop motion, low speed or zero speed on bucket elevators, conveyors, airlocks, mixers, fans, grinders and many other rotating machines. An inductive sensing device located in the nose of the Milli-Speed enclosure will detect a metal target. This target can be an existing bolt head or device attached to a shaft, such as 4B’s Whirligig® sensor mount. During installation, the Milli-Speed is set to the normal running RPM by simple magnetic calibration. Additionally, 4B’s SpeedMaster™ can be used with the Milli-Speed to test the functionality after the initial installation and during routine maintenance procedures. The Hosokawa Group has developed a process for the sustainable recovery of Carbon Black from used car tyres. By performing a number of steps after pyrolysis, the process results in dust-free granular material that can be dosed accurately. It is ready for immediate use in the manufacture of new car tyres or other rubber-based products. Many recycling companies that handle car tyres are keen to find a way to recover Carbon Black from the rubber. In this application, the customer specified Halar coating on a 254 mm (10”) Vortex Seal Tite Diverter over other liner options due to past success with this product on chutes and other equipment they have in service. All internal areas were Halar coated to address the corrosive nature of the material being handled. The valve body, with a straight through flow design and one offset leg, is made from 316L stainless steel. Material contact is 316L stainless steel, polymer, and rubber. The valve has a removable access cover for quick inline service or cleaning without removing the valve from the line. The customer also requested an epoxy coated double acting air cylinder to protect from chemical corrosion. The epoxy coat is a more economical option and requires a shorter lead time than a stainless steel air cylinder. The piston rod, tie rod and tie rod nuts are stainless steel.

Lafarge Zementwerke GmbH in Mannersdorf, Austria, has commissioned BEUMER Group to install a conveying system for alternative fuels and raw materials. The customer benefits from an optimum price-performance ratio and state-of-the art technology. For an economical and sustainable operation, the Austrian plant Mannersdorfof Lafarge Zementwerke GmbH relies on plastic waste as an alternative fuel and raw material. When the old conveying system was irreparably damaged after a fire in June 2020, the owner commissioned BEUMER Group to supply a new and more powerful system. The order includes two Pipe Conveyors, which convey the material. The first conveyor has a diameter of 200 millimetres and a length of 87 metres. Its conveying capacity amounts to ten tons per hour. The second Pipe Conveyor is 192 metres long, has a diameter of 250 millimetres and a conveying capacity of 22 tons per hour. The lifting heights amount to approx. 39 metres and the maximum angle of inclination is 15 degrees. There are also three buffer bins and a weigh feeder.
