Task: A high voltage cable should be layed under the Rhine. The resulting drilling spoil is transported via a belt conveyor. Basically, it is extremely important that the volume of subsidized soil is not greater than the volume of the drilled cylinder. If this exceeds a certain limit, the work must be stopped immediately. The operator of the drilling system wants to use a conventional belt scale for this application. The accumulated weight value (t) should then be converted by a correction factor in m³. This approach only provides satisfactory results, if the density of the soil and the loosening factor are reasonably constant. Solution: Instead of a gravimetric belt scale an optical ”belt scale” was used. This type of scale works with a high-speed scanner, that scans the surface of the belt with optical sensors and thus determines the volume delivered directly and maintenance-free. Programmable microwace flow transducer with interface The new MIC - transducer of Hense Wägetechnik GmbH is based on the latest microprocessor technology from mobile phones. The microwave transducer measures the flow of solid particles in pipes. The sensor operates maintenance free and without contact to the product. The stainless steel sensor tube (V4A) can additionally be protected with a ceramic coating. A high temperature version up to 200C is available. The transducer design is independing from the diameter of the measuring pipe. A confortable software is provided for calibration and service via the USB - interface. The transducer can be calibrated for 2 different products. The sensor can be equipped with the following interfaces: Analogue output: 2 x 4 - 20mA, pulse output (counter pulses / kg), Modbus or Can Bus... An additional evaluation electronic is not required. Hense Wägetechnik expands delivery program Hense Wägetechnik is well known as a supplier of Belt Scales and precise solid flow meters. Due to the developement of a new "state of the art" evaluation electronic, the delivery program was expanded by customized weigh feeders and "screw weighers." The developement and the design result in conjuntion with experience manufacturer of conveyor belts and screw feeder. This guarantees an optimum in terms of weighing accuracy and product transport.

Coloured grafic display and exceeded protection The FlowSlide system of Hense Wägetechnik GmbH is now delivered with a new, state of the art electronic display. The new electronic is mounted in a flat stainless steel IP67 housing. The electronic can be delivered in panel- or wall- mounting enclosure. Due to clear grafic symbols the calibration and operation is simplified. The stainless steel enclosure guarantees a higher degree of protection against ambient conditions and RF noise. The electronic can be equipped with onboard Profibus, Modbus RTU, LAN and other serial or analog outputs. The memory inside the unit can store nearly unlimited product calibration datas. Presently the operation menu can be changed between Geman, English and Russian language.

FlowSlide measures 25 different products with one calibration The Dutch company `Agrifirm` produces large quantities of animal food. The receipts are consisting of different raw material like cereals, maize and different flours. After finishing the mixing procedure the food is conveyed via elevators to the truck loading station. The typical feed rate is between 80 and 160 t/h. The densitity differs from 500 to 1200 kg/m³. In the past Agrifirm has use impact meter to load the trucks with the desired weigth. Due to the different product characteristics the deviation exceeds the allowed range. Agrifirm has installed a 300 m³/h `Maxi FlowSlide` to optimize the batching procedure. The FlowSlide system is nearly independend from density and grain size and is able to provide a tolerance between 300 and 500 kg. The FlowSlide electronics includes a pre selectable counter to stop the batching process after achieving the desired weight. After a testing period of 3 month Agrifirm was sure, that the FlowSlide fullfills their demand and bought the system.

The construction and the material of the Safemount II assembly has achieved the approval of the German TÜV. Actual the 50 & the 60 t model has been certified. The larger assemblies for 80 / 100 and 150 t are based on the same design and should follow immediately. The Safemount assembly is simply bolted between the silos legs and the foundation. Within the certified forces there are no rods or staybars required.

New concept eliminates infeed hopper Automatic hopper scales are still the most common intake and production scales for cereals, flour and fertilizer. Especially for poor flowing products there are nearly no alternatives to measure the production rate or the consumption of raw material. The new CSE hopper scale offers a concept, that eliminates the disadvantage of a hopper scale by the use of two parallel weighing hoppers. A pneumatic controlled switch feeder guides the product ialternative into two weighing hoppers. After filling the hopper the net amount of material is added to the total flow rate. The discharge system ensures, that the hoppers are completely emptied. Due to pneumatic operatation the scale has a very low energy consumption.

Precise Flow Meter for flow rates up to 350 m³/h The approved Solid Flow Meter Type FlowSlide is now available for flow rates up to 350 m³/h. Due to the fact that the capacity of the maintenance free FlowSlide meter was limited to 100 m³/h Hense Wägetechnik GmbH was often forced to refuse inquiries of pleased customers. The new Maxi - FlowSlide measures the flow of grain and powder material via the centripetal force. This method make the measurement independent from density and grain size. A special test stand was constructed to confirm the flow capacity and the accuracy. The construction consists of 2 silos. A screw conveyor feeds the test material from the lower silo into the upper vessel. The vessel is resting on 4 each OIML approved `Clevermount` load cells. Via a slide gate a flow rate up to 400 tm³/h can be adjusted. Test results: The Maxi - FlowSlide was tested with flow rates of 25 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 120 / 150 / und 180 t/h. With batches …

`Onboard` - Load cells for heavy duty applications Due to the different bulk density of scaped iron and aluminium it was nessecary to control the filling process of 6 container. The system is used to prevent overfilling and to calculate the commercial value of the content of each container. If the container is filled with a preselectable value ( 10 t ) the filling process is stopped and the container is picked up by the scrap merchant company. Because of the shock loads during lifting and dumping the container, it was not possible to use conventionell load cells. The robust weighing frame was bolted on 4 heavy duty load cells type T 33. This load cells are developed for `onboard` weihing on trucks. They are extremly resistant against overload and side forces. With a height of only 70 mm the T33 load cell are rated for 30.000 kg. The container weight is displayed on a `touchscreen`- PC. The PC stores the gross/ net weight of the container together with the name of the merchandising. The driver identifies his company…

The PET to PET recycling plant near Vienna regains valueable raw material from plastic bottles. In the first step the bottles are cleaned and reduced to small pieces. The resulting "flakes" have a bulk density of 0,2 to 0,3 kg/l and a grain size of 2 - 20mm. For the further process the mass flow of the flakes must be measured and controlled. Due to the low flowrate ( 3000 kg/ h ) and the different density a "FlowSlide" meter was used to solve this requirements. The FlowSlide system measure the mass flow via the centripetal force that is generated from the product during it runs over a curved measuring slide. The FlowSlide system is dust tight and contains no moving parts. The electronic displays the actual flow rate ( kg/h ) and the absolute flow ( kg ). An integrated "controler" -function enables the system to adjust a constant - or a "master / slave" flow rate.

Measuring limestone powder in the VW - powerplant In the VW Powerplant in Wolfsburg limestone powder is use for the fluegas desulfurization. The limestone powder is stored in silos and dosed via a rotary valve into the pneumatic feed line. The flow rate of the limestone powder was measured by an impact meter. Due to the moving parts and the fact, that the material sticks to the impact plate, this system requires continously maintenance. Looking for a safe and maintenance free measuring method, the microwave sensor "MIC" from Hense Wägetechnik was tested directly in the pneumatic feed line. The MIC sensor is simply clamped to the conveying pipe - the microwave field detects only moving particles. The electronic unit displays the actual flow ( kg/h ) and the total flow ( kg ). The calibration of the microwave system was first done in relation to the impact meter - later on the unit was calibrated in relation to the inventory of the storage silo. At the end of the test 4 ea MIC had been installed in the plant.

The smallest Solid Flow Meter available The new Baby- FlowSlide was delveloped on demand of several customers. The system is only 400 mm heigh and can be use for flow ranges from 50 to 2000 kg/h. The Baby- FlowSlide fills the gap in the existing FlowSlide range from 1 to 100 m³/h. It is ideal suitable for measuring free flowing solids. Inside the system the product is running over a curved slide. This is causing a centripetal force which is direct proportional to the mass flow. The electronic displays the actual flow rate and the absolute amount of material. FlowSlide meter replaces weigh feeders and hopper scales The FlowSlide Meter offers a precise and maintenance free alternative to conventionell weigh feeders and hopper scales. The FlowSlide system measures in the process. The product is guided via a curved stainless steal slide. This is causing a centripetal force, which is absolute proportional to the mass flow. Compared to conventional flow meters based on the effect of impact, the FlowSlide is nearly independent from product density and grain size. A simple factory calibration provides an accuracy within 2%. With a comparison field calibration it is possible to achive +/- 0.2 %. The Flowslide system is suitable for all free flowing solids within a density range of 0.03 and 3.0 kg/l .
