Our client, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of rechargeable battery technologies, approached Palamatic Process with the requirement of designing bulk bag handling equipment for lithium nickel potassium oxide (KDLNO). This material is known for its acute toxicity and can cause severe eye damage, skin irritation, respiratory irritation, suspected carcinogen, etc. Therefore, our client needed to make sure all components of the bulk bag unloading and filling stations were designed to fully contain and filter any dust, as well as keep the work area safe for their operators. As a result of legislation changes made by the EC, Spiroflow advices customers on the safe handling and containment of titanium dioxide (TiO2) powder. TiO2 suspected carcinogen We are taking steps to advise our customers on our range of conveying solutions that are ideally suited to the safe handling and containment of titanium dioxide (TiO2) powder. The move comes as a result of legislation changes made by the European Commission in February 2020, in classifying titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a suspected carcinogen (cat 2) by inhalation. The regulation becomes official on 1 October 2021, meaning that businesses handling TiO2 will need to upgrade the containment of their processes, so that their operators are protected. New Big Bag Emptying Hopper for Top Hygiene Requirements To empty a big bag hygienically, the emptying station has to be constructed in such a way that prevents the formation of germs through contaminants and unremoved product remnants. The emptying hopper plays the biggest role in this as it is the only component in an emptying station that has direct contact with the product being emptied. Dead spaces inside the hopper which are not easily accessible can result in product remnants becoming stuck and going moldy. If a new big bag is then emptied, its contents could easily be contaminated. The Brabender Bulk Bag Discharger `BagMaster`
Completely redesigned with well thought-out detail solutions Brabender has redesigned its "BagMaster" bulk bag discharge station for lined or unlined bulk bags up to 1.5 tons. The most outstanding feature is a novel discharge system. The bag is placed on a horizontal massage ring with a front gap, through which the bag or liner outlet is guided. As the outlet does not have to be lifted above the ring, headroom requirement is reduced. The massage ring is equipped with massage rods around its circumference. For discharge the ring and thus the bag bottom is pneumatically set into a see-sawing motion making the rods act on the lower bag sides and corners, which can normally hardly be emptied. In addition, the outlet is agitated. The result: mass flow in the bag, uniform discharge and complete emptying also of the bag corners even in case of poorly flowing ingredients.
