Industrial residues from Swedish industry become plasterboards
The joint efforts between NOAH, Munters and Stockholm Exergi are accelerating the transformation of Swedish industry towards increased circularity. Using fly ash from Swedish combined heat and power plants and salt residues from Munters manufacturing of desiccant rotors, Norgips is now producing brand new plasterboards. Just a few years ago, treatment and landfilling were the common solutions for handling industrial waste such as fly ash and salt residues. Today, cross-border industrial collaboration, innovative solutions, and a willingness to invest have created completely new opportunities. At Munters production plant in Tobo, where desiccant rotors are produced, wastewater was previously treated through sedimentation and filter pressing, disposing salt residues sent to landfill. With investments in new equipment, the residuals can now be separated directly from the process water and be used as input material in other production. “Collaborating with other industries is the right path to increase circularity and reduce emissions throughout Munters entire value chain. This is an important step towards

Munters presents innovative solutions at POWTECH TECHNOPHARM
At this year’s POWTECH TECHNOPHARM, Munters presents its latest technologies for bulk material processing and spray drying. Efficient solutions for silo storage, conveying, and mixing Moisture is one of the biggest disruptive factors in the storage and conveying of bulk materials. With its dehumidification systems, Munters offers a year-round, preventive solution for controlling relative humidity and the dew point. The systems prevent condensation, caking, and mold growth, thus helping to secure product quality, reduce maintenance efforts, and comply with HACCP requirements. Spray drying rethought – for maximum efficiency In the food and pharmaceutical industries, spray drying is a critical process step. Munters offers modular complete solutions that ensure constant drying conditions regardless of weather conditions. Systems such as the Munters PureSystem, VariMax IFRG, and PureHP enable energy-efficient air treatment, reduce noise emissions, and meet the highest hygiene standards. A practical example: At the Dutch company Sensus, the use of a Munters PureSystem increased production

Why indirect heating is becoming the norm in spray drying
Spray drying plays a crucial role in the food industry, and the technology behind this process has made significant advances. Indirect heating systems are increasingly replacing traditional direct systems. Here are five reasons why this shift is taking place and what benefits it brings. 1 Safety and health first Consumer safety is of paramount importance. Direct heating systems can introduce combustion products such as nitrates and nitrites into the final product, compounds that are potentially carcinogenic. Indirect heating completely eliminates this risk, resulting in safe and high-quality food products. 2 Energy efficiency and sustainability Although direct systems appear efficient in energy transfer, they add extra moisture to the process, reducing drying capacity by 15-30%. Indirect heating eliminates this moisture problem, lowers energy consumption and significantly reduces emissions. This leads to lower costs and a smaller carbon footprint. 3 Safety in the production environment Spray drying can generate dust that can be explosive on contact with open flames. Indirect heating systems completely separate the flame from the process airflow via a heat

Cutting costs and improving profits at transport and storage of sugar
To keep the sugar free flowing, and to avoid clogging during conveying, the climate has to be strictly controlled. The relative humidity in the conveying area needs to be kept below 40% RH. At British Sugar, Cantley, UK, 1,350 tonnes of sugar are produced every day. After the sugar crystals are washed, dried and cooled, they are conveyed to six concrete storage silos, which have a total bulk capacity of 60,000 tonnes. To keep the sugar free flowing, and to avoid clogging during conveying, the climate has to be strictly controlled. The relative humidity in the conveying area needs to be kept below 40% RH, or relative humidity, throughout the year. To control the climate around the conveyor belts and in the silos while securing and maintaining a high product quality, British Sugar is operating seven Munters MX and MXT dehumidifiers. As it’s necessary to give constant attention to measures that can potentially reduce energy consumption and protect the environment, British Sugar has set up a number of ambitious goals on savings. Production processes have already been evaluated and optimised, and the time had come to explore other possible savings. Munters’

40% increase in Powder Production for Sensus Zwolle Munters desiccant rotor improves Sensus Zwolle spray drying process
40% increase in Powder Production for Sensus Zwolle
Munters desiccant rotor improves Sensus Zwolle spray drying process Based in Zwolle, Sensus makes optimal use of chicory root to manufacture inulin, or oligofructose. As a proud entity of the Royal Cosun group, Sensus is committed to a healthier future. Inulin: The Natural Sweetner Inulin is known in the food world as a powerful sweetener, whose sweetness exceeds sucrose by 10%. Naturally present in chicory roots - the main source of inulin - it is used to create nutritious and flavourful products. It not only serves as a sugar alternative, but also replaces fat and increases fibre content, optimising flavour. Moisture control in spray drying: 40% Production increase During the August and September harvest months, Sensus turns its focus to chicory root, as the basis for their inulin production. Their spray-drying technology plays a crucial role in converting the concentrated inulin solution into a manageable powder. Given the inherent sticky nature of inulin, extreme precision is required to avoid potential system contamination.

Dehumidification for silo storage, conveying and mixing
To prevent condensation and moisture problems in bulk material and storage processes, dehumidification systems are often used. Silos, conveyors, and mixing plants operate more efficiently when the air is cool and dry. Storing dry bulk materials in silos or transporting powders in pneumatic conveying systems can be problematic. Reduced product quality, lost production, blocked pipes, and a need for intensive regular equipment maintenance are common requirements. Lower productivity and higher production costs are the result. Operators of silos or conveying systems are often aware of the effects of excessive moisture. Relative Humidity (RH) levels are difficult to counteract as they change throughout the day and season. Pneumatic conveying is also affected by increases in air pressure, as this also increases the likelihood of condensation forming. The moisture regain due to condensation causes many ingredients and powder that would otherwise convey smoothly, to stick together. As a result, these products build-up in conveying lines. To minimize the effects of product build-up, mechanical devices such as vibration pads, hammers etc., are often fitted to bulk handling equipment
