Successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)

Successful FAT with BASF Chemetall USA at Greif-Velox

Two fully automatic filling systems ready for use Greif-Velox in Lübeck recently successfully completed factory acceptance testing (FAT) for two individually configured filling systems.
The customer: BASF Chemetall USA, a leading provider of surface technologies. The focus was on two fully automated systems for different types of containers, which will be used at the Blackman Township site (Michigan, USA) in the future.

Future-proof automation for industrial filling processes

The first system tested, the A-DOS-P1 model, is designed for the automatic filling of IBCs and drums. It is equipped with the robot-assisted VeloFlexLabeler, which enables precise and consistent labeling in a fully automated process.
The investment is complemented by an A-DOS-K, a compact solution for filling canisters. The fully automated system is specially designed for industrial applications with high throughput and features robust technology and ease of use.

Transatlantic partnership as a success factor

As part of the FAT, both systems were intensively tested, fine-tuned, and prepared for upcoming use in collaboration with the project team from BASF Chemetall USA. The smooth process underscores the efficiency and reliability of the collaboration between the international teams at BASF and Greif-Velox.

Outlook

With the completion of the FAT, everything is now in place for commissioning in the US. Greif-Velox would like to thank the BASF Chemetall team for their trust and partnership. The use of the two systems is expected to improve efficiency and process reliability on site in the long term.

Sustainable Vacuum Technology for Modern Production Processes
GREIF-VELOX presents the new DryVac dry-running pump, which enables energy savings up to 70%. Energy and resource efficiency have become critical factors in modern industrial production—especially when handling ultra-light powders such as carbon black, silica, or color pigments. With the launch of its new GREIF-VELOX DryVac dry-running pump, the German engineering company introduces a forward-looking vacuum solution that combines economic efficiency, sustainability, and operational reliability. Up to 70% less energy consumption Without Compromising Performance. Compared to conventional water ring pumps, the GREIF-VELOX DryVac reduces energy consumption by up to 70%, and even when compared to double diaphragm pumps, energy savings of over 50% are achievable. With a motor output of just 6.5 kW, the DryVac significantly reduces operating costs. A practical example: With an annual operating time of 8,000 hours and an average consumption of only 2.6 kW, the system can save up to €12,800 in energy costs per year—for example, during the bagging of silica. Fast & easy ordering spare parts via new Greif-Velox portal
The new digital spare parts catalog lets you identify and order parts easily and securely – directly from your machine using a QR code. Greif-Velox Simplifies Ordering Process Greif-Velox Maschinenfabrik GmbH, a leading manufacturer of filling and packaging systems for solids and liquids, has launched the new digital customer portal VeloXparts for spare parts ordering. The new electronic spare parts catalog allows customers worldwide to order required components quickly, securely, and conveniently – a major step toward Industry 4.0 in mechanical engineering. Spare Parts in Just Three Steps A QR code placed directly on the machine takes users to their individual system interface within the VeloXparts portal. There, they can identify and select the necessary components and place the order with just a few clicks. This saves time, reduces errors, and minimizes downtime. Smart After-Sales Service with Added Value “Our customers not only expect reliable machines, but also digital services that streamline their processes,” explains Björn Voges, Global Marketing Manager at Greif-Velox. “With

95% less material waste during starch bagging
AKD Toftlund (Denmark) was able to reduce the reject rate from 0.8% to just 0.04% using the GREIF-VELOX ValvoDetect sensor system. Valve bags are widely used in automated packaging lines in the food industry – especially for products such as cornstarch – because they offer many advantages in terms of storage and handling. However, defective bags or bag valves repeatedly cause significant disruptions in the filling process. A common scenario: The valve sticks to the bottom of the bag and cannot be opened correctly automatically during filling. As a result, the bag cannot be filled completely or at all. This leads to product losses, dust contamination, additional cleaning effort – and ultimately an unnecessarily high proportion of rejects. GREIF-VELOX expanded the BVPV 4.40 to include the high-precision ValvoDetect sensor system, which works in two test stages: # Variant Save: Even before the filling process, optical sensors check whether the bag valve has been opened correctly as soon as the bag sits on the spout. Faulty bags are ejected immediately. # Variant Clean: Before the sealing

Efficient filling of micronized waxes at Reagens
When processing fine-grained, sticky products such as micronized waxes, short changeover times and easy cleaning are key requirements. Frequent product changes mean that long downtimes have a direct impact on productivity. Together with Reagens Deutschland GmbH, GREIF-VELOX was able to address this challenge in a targeted manner – with the use of the BVP air packer including a residual emptying function. Challenge: Cleaning effort for highly adhesive products At the Reagens site in Loxstedt, manual systems were previously used, which regularly left up to one kilogram of product in the hopper. These residues led to extended cleaning times, especially with viscous, slow-flowing substances – a clear bottleneck in the process. Solution: optimized hopper outlet and air flushing system With the BVP gross pneumatic packer from GREIF-VELOX, Reagens was able to significantly simplify cleaning after each filling process. The specially shaped vessel outlet in combination with an air purge system ensures that less than 12 grams of product remain in the vessel. The result: cleaning time was reduced

Vacuum bagging for “Battery Grade Carbon Black” at Birla Carbon
Clean, safe and scalable handling of extremely fine-powdered carbon black. When high-tech materials meet sophisticated packaging technology, precision is required. Birla Carbon has set the bagging specialist Greif-Velox precisely this challenge. The world’s leading supplier of carbon black is expanding into electromobility with a newly developed product for lithium-ion batteries. The carbon black variant from Birla Carbon is extremely fine-powdered, electrically conductive and essential for modern batteries. However, it is precisely these properties that make the material particularly difficult to handle: low density, high dust formation, high cleanliness requirements. Efficient bagging for the battery technology of tomorrow The solution? The VeloVac vacuum packer - specially developed for ultra-light powders such as carbon black, silica or color pigments. As a full-line system including ValvoSeal ultrasonic sealing and VeloPack handling robots, the complete package now offers Birla Carbon a fully automated, dust-free and highly scalable packaging process - from the product infeed to the finished stacked pallet. Why Birla
