ENVEA Reflex RD5XX - Radar Level Measurement
ENVEA Reflex RD5XX - Radar Level Measurement

ENVEA Reflex RD5xx Series - Radar Level Measurement

The ENVEA Reflex RD5xx series measures levels without contact using 80 GHz radar, with ranges from 10 to 30 metres and 1 mm resolution.
With the Reflex RD5xx product family, ENVEA offers a new range of continuous level measurement solutions for bulk solids and liquids. The series includes four variants – Reflex RD520, RD530, RD540 and RD560 – designed for different measuring ranges and requirements in the bulk solids and process industries.

Level measurement in silos and tanks can be challenging due to dust, internal structures, narrow vessel geometries or changing material surfaces. The Reflex RD5xx sensors therefore use 80 GHz FMCW radar technology in the 77 to 81 GHz frequency range. Depending on the model, measuring ranges from 10 to 30 meters are available. The sensors provide a resolution of 1 mm, repeatability of ±1 mm and, depending on the model, accuracy of up to ±2 mm.

A high dynamic range and a narrow beam angle of up to 4° help ensure stable measurement results, even in tall or narrow silos. The minimal dead zone also supports more complete use of the available vessel volume.

Non-contact measurement reduces maintenance requirements

One of the key advantages of radar technology is its non-contact measurement principle. As the sensor does not come into contact with the material, mechanical wear and material-related measurement deviations are reduced. Regular recalibration is not required in many applications. This makes the technology particularly suitable for dusty, abrasive or changing bulk materials.

Typical applications include the cement and building materials industries, precast concrete plants, ready-mix concrete facilities, energy-from-waste plants and other areas of the process industry. Suitable materials include lime, cement, fly ash, GGBS, powders and granulates, as well as various liquids.

For demanding industrial environments, the sensors feature a PVDF housing and antenna and are rated to IP68. The permitted process range extends from -25 °C to +80 °C at pressures of up to 5 bar(g).

Easy commissioning via Bluetooth

The sensors have also been designed for simple commissioning and operation. Via a Bluetooth interface, they can be configured and diagnosed from ground level. The “Level Device Configurator” app guides users step by step through the setup process. Predefined silo, tank and vessel shapes further simplify configuration.

The sensors can be used as standalone solutions or combined with ENVEA’s Shield Lite and Silo Trend systems. This enables level and inventory data to be used for remote monitoring. Companies can gain greater transparency over material stocks, improve production and delivery planning, and reduce the risk of unplanned production interruptions.

With the Reflex RD5xx family, ENVEA provides a flexible solution for continuous level measurement that combines precise radar technology with simple commissioning and low maintenance requirements.

Monitoring of the volume flow in an evaporative cooler
Almost every cement plant needs an evaporative cooler to cool the exhaust gases for the cleaning process. To save energy, the volume flow is being measured. APPLICATION Almost every cement plant needs an evaporative cooler to cool the exhaust gases for the cleaning process. In order to operate the evaporation cooler with maximum efficiency, a stable volume flow is required. Monitoring the volume flow also leads to energy savings, as external air supply units can be adapted (throttled) to the existing volume flow. Due to the difficult process parameters, it is impossible to use differential pressure measurements on the evaporative cooler. Optical measuring devices also quickly reach their limits here due to the high dust load. Until today, the air velocities are either not controlled at all or are controlled with the help of an optical measuring device. In many places, the fans are also run permanently at high load, which brings with it a huge potential savings. PROCESS DATA * Dust load: 5-10 g/m³ * Diameter: 3600 mm * Process temperature: 250 °C – 500 °C SOLUTION The AirFlow P high temperature version…

Improved coffee roasting efficiency
PROBAT is a manufacturer of coffee roasting equipment and wants to control the volume flow to ensure high roaster efficiency through optimal energy transfer. APPLICATION PROBAT is a manufacturer of coffee roasting equipment. PROBAT’s roasters are operated according to a special procedure to make the roasting process as efficient as possible. This procedure enables PROBAT to use a large part of the hot air generated to support the process and thus save energy. The company saves money through lower energy costs while maintaining the same product quality. In order to be able to operate these roasters in an energy-efficient manner, it is important to know which air volume flows through the roaster. Depending on the type of coffee and roasting profile, different volume flows may be required. A correctly set and controlled volume flow ensures high roaster efficiency through optimal energy transfer to the coffee bean. If the volume flow is set incorrectly, the energy transfer to the bean would have to be adjusted via the temperature of the roasting gas, which would have a significant impact on the roaster’s efficiency. The…
