Short course: Port and Terminal Operations for Bulk Cargoes

understand the issues surrounding the safe handling and storage of bulk materials in port terminals and at sea.
Join the experts from the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology as they deliver this online course, written for anyone concerned about, who handles or is responsible for the safe transportation and storage of bulk materials, such as Stevedores, Operations supervisors, Port managers, Ships Masters, Port developers, Cargo superintendents, Equipment suppliers, Design consultants.

A short course to discuss real life issues and to determine best practice for future developments.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Ship unloading technologies (Grabs vs CSUs, different CSU technologies)
  • Conveying technologies (pneumatic vs belt)
  • Storage and discharge technologies (silos, flat stores, stacking etc)
  • Loading/unloading control (weighing, controlling ship bending etc)
  • Rail and road out-loading equipment and control
  • Explosion and fire risks and management (ATEX, fire control and management)
  • Mobile plant and safety
  • Developments in automation and autonomous vehicles

The course leader is Mike Bradley, Professor of Bulk and Particulate Technologies and Director of The Wolfson Centre. He has worked internationally on design and troubleshooting for bulk solids handling as a commercial consultant and research expert for over twenty-five years. Contributions will also be made Dr Baldeep Kaur, whose interests lie in characterisation and transportation of bulk materials;

The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology has released the short course calendar for 2024 and online registration is now open. Register before 31 December and pay 2023 fees. Held either online or at the Wolfson Centre offices in Chatham, Kent, we offer courses in a variety of bulk materials handling subjects. The full calendar of courses is now available on our website, including those only available as in-company courses. Early Bird Registration The following courses on powder handling will take place in January and February 2024. Register for these online courses before 31 December and pay 2023 fees. * Undesired Deblending and Separation in Processes and Equipment; * Measurement of the Properties and Bulk Behaviour of Particulate Materials; * Caking and Lump Formation of Powders and Bulk Solids These three courses will be led by Dr Vivek Garg; Vivek’s area of expertise focuses on solving flow related problems in bulk solids handling industries and the development of the novel mechanical surface energy tester, which will feature in the Bulk Behaviour course above.
