SmartPick wins Process Innovation Audience Award Solids Antwerp 2022
This year’s Process Innovation Audience Award at Solids Antwerp 2022 was won by Engisol and Sacchi with the SmartPick, an innovative robotic system for the handling of bags.
Engisol is a specialist in process and packaging technology. Sacchi is an Italian system integrator in the field of solids processing. The award went to the patented SmartPick, an innovative robotic system that not only depalletises bags of powders and granules, but also empties and automatically dispenses them following a recipe.
The SmartPick developed by Sacchi is more than just a process machine, picking up bags, moving them and opening and emptying them by means of a static blade. The innovative robotic system features intelligent software, which allows users to read in their own recipe files. In this way, powders are dosed very precisely and unique blends are put together.
Anthropomorphic robot
”Winning the audience award is a confirmation for us that the market is interested in this technology. The SmartPick features an advanced, unique technology. The bag is handled and cut on a static blade by an anthropomorphic robot. This guarantees reliability, traceability and high production levels. Many companies in the process industry are not yet aware of the existence of this technology, but once discovered it is taking a noticeable storm,” says David Depickere, general manager of Engisol. He and his partner and co-owner of Sacchi, Massimiliano Sacchi, are therefore immensely proud of the public’s appreciation. ”It is a confirmation of the high standard, which the Sacchi company has been applying for almost a hundred years and have made them the world market leader in robotic powder handling,” says Depickere, who reveals that the SmartPick is covered by five patents and more than a hundred references.
