Expanding the application possibilities of passive isolation valves
Effective protection for industrial plants: putting a stop to incipient explosions in the process.
Constructive explosion protection through pressure relief - even flameless if required - is an essential factor in minimising the risk of secondary explosions and flame jet ignitions between two or more process vessels connected by piping.
For this purpose, IEP Technologies, the safety experts of the HOERBIGER Group, has developed the IsoFlap check valve. The passive decoupling valve enables effective, passive explosion decoupling for plants with combustible dusts to prevent explosion propagation into upstream plant areas. The protection system fulfils the requirements of DIN EN 16447 and can be ordered and delivered immediately in various sizes between DN 100 and DN 1000. Up to DN 200, the IsoFlap valves are also certified for St 2 and metallic dusts.
The IsoFlap and IsoFlap-M both have a durable carbon steel valve body and a flap blade of high quality stainless steel alloy. The valve is designed to withstand high maximum reduced explosion pressures (Pred) listed in the specification section below. During operation the flap blade is held open by the process airflow, in case of an explosion the pressure front closes and locks in place the blade, mitigating the propagation of the flame and pressure to the upstream equipment.
Available as an option is the IsoFlap-M Interface Module, a PCB based system monitoring device designed for use with the IsoFlap-M version of the flap valve. The Interface Module includes intrinsically safe barriers for monitoring the IsoFlap-M sensors, provides for process interlock functions, and includes diagnostic and maintenance functions. The Interface Panel operates on either 120 or 230 VAC.
