Inline Particle Measurement in explosive Environments

At Powtech 2007 Parsum shows first time its new In-line Particle Probe IPP 70-Se for use in potentially explosive environments. Within ATEX this probe is classified as an intrinsically safe instrument suitable for use in zones 0, 1 and 2, 20, 21 and 22.

The IPP 70-Se is an optical rod probe with no moving elements and the same mechanical dimensions like the standard version. A special 100 m cable allows installing the electronics and measurement PC outside ATEX classified areas. The probe measures particle size by detecting interruptions of a laser beam caused by material passing through it. It is insensitive to vibration and slight impacts. Once installed, usually in pipelines, falling zones, vessels or directly in fluidized beds, it requires no manual adjustment. An integral pressurized air feed ensures that the optical sapphire windows are protected from product build-up – a particularly important feature for potentially fouling applications. It is suitable for the measurement of particles size distributions in the range 50 to 6000 microns at temperatures up to 100 °C.

The introduction of the IPP 70-Se extends the Parsum range of robust probes, ensuring that efficient in-line particle measurement systems can be offered for all ATEX classified zones.
