Russian Agriculture Offers New Opportunities for the Bulk Solids and Powder Industry

Because of the problematic situation in the Ukraine, the European Union and the US, Canada, Australia and other countries have imposed sanction upon Russia. In turn, Russia has responded with counter-sanctions. Even though it is not possible yet to provide a full statement on the macroeconomic impact of the sanctions, many experts share the opinion that they will not lead to a dramatic worsening of the economic relation between Russia and the European Union in the long run.
During the conference in Berlin on the 27th February 2015, Dr. Rainer Seele, president of the German-Russian Foreign Chamber of Commerce and CEO of the biggest German oil and gas company Wintershall emphasized the importance of the economic partnership especially in times of a crisis. He also pointed out that German companies have not left Russia. At the moment, 6000 companies with German involvement are active in Russia. His concern is currently investing 500 million Euro in projects in Russia.

The Russian Minister of Agriculture published a special program for the development of agriculture until 2020. Within this program the state provides extensive support for local companies through subsidies, tax allowances, and direct investments for the modernization and promotion of innovative ideas in agriculture. Smaller and medium-sized companies will be granted easier access to credits.

One of the scientific experts of the advisory board of POWX2015, Dr. Sorochinskij of the Russian Scientific Research Institute for Grain and Grain Processing, confirmed the importance of innovative processes in his branch: “In the field of my scientific focus, which is the drying, storage and processing of grain, technologic innovations which maximize the utilization ratio of grain, like for example the technology for circular isotherm drying, are indispensable, because they drastically reduce the consumption of energy.”

In agriculture lies great potential for cooperation between Russia and Germany. In January 2015, the German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt and his Russian colleague Nikolai Fedorov discussed the consolidation of cooperation in agriculture between Russia and Germany during the international trade fair Grüne Woche in Berlin. Christian Schmidt confirmed that Germany and Russia are able to “increase the volume of trade in agriculture”.

The various opportunities of modern and future-oriented technologies, also in the field of agriculture, are going to be presented at the POWX. This enjoys great cross-sector support by many associations and institutes, which is unique in whole Russia. Especially recently we experienced an additional boost through new supporters like the Russian Grain Association, the Russian Research Institute for Grain and Grain Products, the Russian Research Institute for the Diary Sector and the Institute for Research and Development of the Bakery Sector.
