Hoses for the Food Industry without a stainless steel spiral? Not from Mast

Masterflex emphasizes die safeness of products with all single components

Since many years Masterflex AG, producer of hoses and hose systems, is in possession of an approval for Master-Food hoses acc. to EN 2002/72/EC and complementary directive EN 2007/19/EC since 20. September 2007. Masterflex always emphasizes the safeness of products with all single components. It concerns the plastic materials as well as the used metal spiral beads and connecting elements. Therefore Masterflex decided already some years ago to produce all Master-Food-hoses exclusively with stainless steel helixes.

It’s the helix that makes the difference

Some hose manufacturers still use copper-plated wire helixes that may endanger food safety. The helix can become exposed due to abrasion, causing rust build-up or copper particles to contaminate the foodstuffs conveyed. Copper corrodes in the presence of acids and forms copper salts. Directive 2005/79/EC, amending Directive 2002/72/EC, lays down strict migration limits for all copper salts, which means conveyed foodstuffs may only contain a very small amount of such substances.

This is why, for several years, Masterflex has been consistently using stainless steel helixes that are even approved for direct food contact. All hoses are manufactured from safe raw materials, which, it goes without saying, are specified in the hose and connecting element certificates.
