3 solar drying lines and a complete sludge conveyance system

As part of the modernisation of the Valff sewage treatment works, Sodimate supplied a complete sludge conveyance system for its client in France. This system ensures the transport of sludge from the mechanical dewatering stage through to final storage.
Following dewatering using two screw presses, the sludge is collected, conveyed and then distributed across three solar drying lines. This process enables the operator to reduce energy consumption for sludge dewatering and drying by a factor of nine, thereby fully aligning with its ambitious strategy for the energy transition.

Once drying is complete, the dried sludge is collected at the other end of the greenhouse and transported for final disposal.

Main components supplied:

  • ️Collection and conveyance of the dewatered sludge
At the outlet of the two screw presses, the dewatered sludge is first collected by a Sodimate screw conveyor. A second screw conveyor then transports the sludge to the distribution system in the solar drying greenhouse.

These initial conveying stages ensure the continuous transport of the dewatered sludge from the mechanical dewatering stage to the drying process.

  • ️Distribution in the solar drying greenhouse
The sludge is then fed into a suspended Sodimate screw conveyor, which is mounted above the three drying lines.
  • Length: 32 metres
  • 12 discharge points
  • 4 discharge points per drying line
  • Distribution across 3 drying lines with turning bridges
This system ensures that the sludge is evenly distributed throughout the greenhouse before solar drying begins.

  • ️Solar drying
Inside the greenhouse, solar energy aids the evaporation of residual moisture. Three sludge turners regularly turn and aerate the sludge throughout the drying process.
  • ️Collection of the dried sludge
At the opposite end of the greenhouse, the dried sludge is collected by a separate, 33-metre-long Sodimate screw conveyor installed underground. This screw conveyor takes the dried sludge after solar drying and transports it to the final storage area.
  • ️Conveyance and distribution to final storage
The dried sludge is then transported to the storage area using further Sodimate systems, including:
  • a vertical screw conveyor
  • a horizontal distribution screw conveyor
  • and distribution to the individual storage cells

ONE process. ONE complete conveying system.

From the discharge points of the two screw presses right through to the final storage cells, the Sodimate systems support every stage of the sludge transport process:

  • Collection at the outlet of the two screw presses
  • Conveying to the solar drying greenhouse
  • Distribution via 12 discharge points across three drying lines
  • Collection following solar drying
  • Vertical conveyance
  • Distribution to final storage
From dewatering to final storage, each stage of the conveying process contributes to the continuity and reliability of the entire sludge treatment process.

A reference project that impressively demonstrates Sodimate’s expertise in the field of sludge conveying and handling solutions for sewage treatment works.

Modernizing a legacy lime slaking system at Waste-to-Energy Plant
A Wallace & Tiernan paste slaking system installed in 1995 had become obsolete, with no spare parts available. Processing 210,000 tons of waste per year for ~720,000 people, the facility relies on an advanced flue gas treatment system where lime slurry neutralizes acid gases. The challenge: A Wallace & Tiernan paste slaking system installed in 1995 had become obsolete, with no spare parts available. Sodimate Deutschland GmbH designed a targeted retrofit, preserving existing tanks and pumps while upgrading key components: * silo discharge and dosing systems * lime slaking units * water dosing systems * Brother washers During installation, a mobile plant ensured continuous lime slurry supply, avoiding downtime. The result: * smooth operation of both lines * stable lime slurry production (~2,700 L/h) * improved reliability and long-term maintainability This project proves that aging installations can be modernized efficiently and sustainably.

Sodimate’s tanks for sewage treatment and flue gas cleaning sector
Sodimate designs, supplies and installs dilution tanks for lime/chalk milk, soda solution, powdered activated carbon slurry and other solutions and suspensions in the sewage treatment and flue gas cleaning sector The tanks are made of PPH/PEHD as standard (alternatively also made of steel or stainless steel) and are equipped with an agitator mixer, level sensor indicator, a water dosing panel board and the necessary connections for pumping, emptying, lime milk ring line, etc. Depending on their size, the dilution tanks have 1 - 3 flow breakers, a 24-hour agitator and a vent with spray nozzle, essential elements for good homogeneity of the suspension or solution and to prevent deposits on the tank wall. The mixtures are then conveyed to the respective consumption points using pumps. The advantages: * Tank can be modulated as required and is available in any size between 500 litres and 10,000 litres * Integration of the tank within a complete ‘turnkey’ system * 100% dust-free, as the system is hermetically sealed * Tank specially optimised for hydrated lime, can be customized according to the requirements for other products such as soda, bentonite, etc. * Low maintenance…
