Wiskerke Onions and Symach Mark 20-Year Palletizing Partnership
Wiskerke Onions and packaging specialist Symach are celebrating a 20-year partnership. Over two decades, Symach has supplied nine palletizers alongside internal logistics and load securing systems.
Two decades of automated palletizing
Dutch produce packer Wiskerke Onions and equipment manufacturer Symach are celebrating a 20-year partnership. Wiskerke Onions processes around 28 million packages annually, ranging from 100-gram bags to 25-kilogram sacks for export. To manage these volumes efficiently, the family business relies on equipment from Symach to automate bag stacking and internal transport.
Expanding internal logistics and packaging equipment
The collaboration began in 2006 when Jaap Wiskerke ordered the company's first Symach palletizer. Since then, Wiskerke has installed eight additional palletizers along with load-securing equipment, including corner board applicators, strapping machines, and stretch wrappers. Symach also provided roller conveyors and shuttles for internal pallet transport from the packaging line to the dispatch area, reducing forklift movements and improving operational safety.
Joint development of customized machinery
The partnership has also driven product innovation. Working closely with Wiskerke's technical manager Bob Salm, Symach developed a specialized push-plate palletizer designed for stacking large volumes of crates. While this machine type is now utilized by customers worldwide, the original unit remains in operation at Wiskerke's plant.
Continuous operation and reliability
Reliability remains critical for peak seasonal demands. According to managing director Chayenne Wiskerke, scheduled pre-season check-ups ensure uninterrupted production through high-volume periods. Symach's portfolio has grown from its initial palletizer designs to comprehensive bagging, weighing, and load securing solutions, including the Rotax palletizing head capable of positioning up to 50 bags per minute.
