Infrastructure development and local integration
The bulk solids measurement specialist UWT is expanding its ”UWT cares” initiative by supporting a major social project in a suburb of Kigali, Rwanda. Initiated by surgeon Dr. Johannes Huber, the project focuses on providing sustainable infrastructure for a school serving 2,000 students, including inclusive classes. A newly completed 3,000 square meter facility featuring a school kitchen and dining hall was constructed using local labor, ensuring regional value creation and long-term operational stability.
Core objectives of the infrastructure project
- Reliable daily catering for all students
- Integration of local workers in the construction process
- Implementation of sustainable, pragmatic building solutions
- Support for inclusive education through improved facilities
Sustainable energy solutions for operational independence
To address high wood and energy costs in the region, a comprehensive photovoltaic system is being installed on the school roof. This system, supported by a 57 kW night storage unit, is designed to provide complete energetic independence. UWT Managing Director Uwe Niekrawietz and the company have contributed 10,000 Euro to the project, which is coordinated transparently through the Lions Club. The facility is scheduled to begin full operation in spring 2026.
Expanding social impact through medical support
The initiative extends beyond educational infrastructure to include medical and social support in Musanze. This phase of the project involves furnishing a daycare center and significantly upgrading medical care for approximately 200 women. By funding the placement of a doctor, nurse, and psychologists, the project ensures that essential healthcare services are integrated into the local community support structure, reflecting UWT’s corporate values of appreciation and loyalty.
