Foeth acquires Italian peer, strengthening its position
Foeth announces the acquisition of the Italian equipment dealer Intimac, strengthening its position as the European market leader in refurbished process, formulation and packaging machines
Machines for the pharmaceutical, chemical, recycling and food and feed industries. Following this acquisition, Foeth offers machines for the entire pharmaceutical value chain: from production to formulation and packaging of medicines. Foeth is determined to challenge the industry to increasingly operate circularly.
Selling around 1,000 machines annually
No matter how the world changes, industry will always need to mix, grind, dry and package raw materials into end products. These machines can therefore often be reused, even across different industries. Since 1908, Foeth gives such process and packaging machines a second life with new end-users. With its entrepreneurial and pragmatic approach, rooted in family values, Foeth has grown into the European leading player, holding more than 2,800 machines in stock and selling around 1,000 annually.
Giving used equipment a second life
Foeth observes a growing supply of used, redundant machines in the Netherlands and across Europe, as business units close or production relocates. Foeth’s CEO, Michiel Schreurs, explains: “Companies are often unaware that their machines can be reused, even in other industries, and that selling them contributes to the still nascent circular economy.”
Less CO₂ emissions and lower cost
Intimac CEO Sergio Ferretto Clementi: “By joining forces with Foeth, we can convince an increasing amount of industrial companies to adopt circular practices and reduce their emissions by using refurbished machines.” Using a refurbished machine avoids the CO₂ emissions of the production of a new machine: on average 4.4 tonnes of CO₂ (equivalent to the average annual CO₂ emissions of three households from using their car).
Foeth gives refurbished machines a second life and sells those, among others, to SMEs and innovative start- and scale-ups. An increasing number of companies require process and packaging machines quickly and at lower cost, for example to test new products or scale up production. Several companies have purchased their first machines at Foeth, including Those Vegan Cowboys, de Vegetarische Slager, SeaO2 and Protix.
Professionalising the market for refurbished machines
Foeth’s business model is future-proof, professional and scalable. Therefore, this is the right time to expand, next to organic growth, through targeted acquisitions. Foeth’s acquisition of Intimac is the first of its kind in a still traditional market for used process and packaging machines. The market still relies on personal networks and lags behind in terms of digitalisation and e-commerce. Foeth is innovating and professionalising the sector allowing to challenge more companies to operate circularly.
