GreCon Protector honoured with the iF Design Award Gold

A big stage for a safety system that, at best, does not come into the limelight in everyday operations. This makes the preventive fire protection system one of the 77 gold-winning solutions worldwide.
A big stage for a safety system that is at best not in the spotlight in everyday business: on 28 April, fire protection specialist Fagus-GreCon received the iF DESIGN AWARD 2025 in gold. The company accepted the award for the GreCon PROTECTOR on the stage of the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin - in front of around 2,000 guests from over 50 nations.
This makes the preventive fire protection system one of 77 solutions worldwide to be honoured with gold. The GreCon PROTECTOR, a new system for fire prevention in industrial plants, impressed the international jury with its combination of technical innovation and sophisticated design - even before its official market launch.
With the GreCon PROTECTOR, Fagus-GreCon plays a special role among internationally recognised design icons such as Apple and Ferrari: a fire protection system on a design award stage - that is not an everyday occurrence.

A design that goes beyond pure aesthetics

The jury particularly recognised the intuitive operability and practice-oriented design. Developed as a modular safety concept, GreCon PROTECTOR can be flexibly integrated into a wide range of industrial environments - with the aim of preventing fires and explosions before they even start.
What is meant by ‘design’ here goes beyond pure aesthetics. It is about combining functionality, clarity and user-centredness - a system that guides users through its structure rather than overwhelming them and makes safety thinking visible.

”The fact that a fire protection system has been honoured with a gold design award shows that design can be more than just aesthetics. For us, design means bringing technology and people together - comprehensibly, reliably and effectively. The iF DESIGN AWARD is confirmation for us that our standards are also recognised internationally,” says Mario Haas, Managing Director at Fagus-GreCon.

A look at the past also shows: The design of industrial systems has a long tradition at Fagus-GreCon. The company was honoured with its first iF DESIGN AWARD back in 1995 - in red at the time. Three decades later, it has now been honoured with gold.
The GreCon PROTECTOR will be presented to the public for the first time at LIGNA 2025 in Hanover - together with the new MISSION CONTROL control centre. Visitors will have the opportunity to have the excellent system explained to them directly by the experts.

The next generation of intelligent spark detection control panels: predictive maintenance, plug & play integration and comprehensive remote access for less downtime, more safety and maximum efficiency. At LIGNA 2025, Fagus-GreCon will introduce GreCon Mission Control, the next generation of intelligent spark detection control panels. This innovative system combines predictive maintenance, plug-&-play integration, and comprehensive remote access—minimising downtime, enhancing safety, and maximising efficiency. The Command Centre of Preventive Fire Protection For a fire protection system to be fully effective, it requires a central control unit that intelligently coordinates all processes. GreCon Mission Control takes this technology to the next level - offering smart networking, real-time monitoring, and maximum system reliability. Maximised Availability Through Smart Maintenance With its Segmented Maintenance System (SMS), GreCon Mission Control sets new standards: scheduled and unscheduled maintenance can be carried out on individual components or segments of the production line without shutting down the entire system. This minimises production downtime

The Fagus Factory World Heritage Site in Alfeld will be part of the international UNESCO exhibition in Venice this year. Under the title ‘Deep Surfaces: Architecture to enhance the visitor experience of UNESCO sites’, the exhibition shows how visitor centres around the world contribute to bringing history and culture to life. Living architecture as a mediator The Fagus Factory is not just an architectural monument - it is a living place where people have been producing, working and designing for over 100 years. At the same time, it embodies one of the earliest ideas of modern industrial architecture. The visitor centre, which opened on the factory site in 2015, brings this history to life in a variety of ways - through exhibitions, guided tours and direct access to the listed architecture. Past and present meet at eye level where industrial history was written in the past and continues to be written today. As part of the ‘Deep Surfaces’ exhibition, curated
