Greif-Velox in Lübeck for 80 years
Rooted in the “Queen of the Hanseatic Cities” for 80 years: Packaging machine specialist Greif-Velox reaffirms its “yes” to Lübeck as a business location
The Lübeck-based company Greif-Velox is celebrating a special anniversary in 2025: the packaging machine specialist has been based in Lübeck for exactly 80 years and is underlining its clear commitment to the business location by extending its lease in Kronsforder Landstraße for a further ten years.
After the Second World War, Ernst Mahlkuch brought the company with more than 1,000 years of history to the Hanseatic city, where it has been growing continuously and driving innovation ever since. Today, Greif-Velox is a hidden champion from the region and world market leader in the bagging of ultra-light powders using vacuum technology and full-line systems. The company has also established itself worldwide as a renowned supplier in the field of automatic liquid filling systems.
Securing jobs and innovative power
The medium-sized company first expanded its capacities in 2022 and opened an additional production hall in Lübeck’s Rigastrasse. By extending the lease and investing in new production capacities, Greif-Velox is not only securing jobs in the region, but also boosting its innovative strength.
Highly qualified specialists
Thanks to its technological focus on automation and future-oriented solutions, the company attracts highly qualified specialists. Greif-Velox benefits from Lübeck as a science location, which, with its university, technical college and clusters of excellence, supports the transfer of outstanding research into market-ready products. Many students, for example, use Greif-Velox’s InnoLab for their research and final theses and then return to the company as graduates. In addition, the proximity to the Baltic Sea offers an attractive working environment for Greif-Velox employees.
Northern European axis of the future
The location also scores points for Greif-Velox thanks to its location: Lübeck has direct access to the A1 and A20 highways, which connect Western Europe with Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. As part of the Hamburg metropolitan region and the HanseBelt between Hamburg and Copenhagen, the Hanseatic city plays a key role on the northern European axis of the future - an importance that will continue to grow with the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel and will also strengthen Greif-Velox’s connection to Scandinavian markets.
Lübeck as part of the corporate vision
“Our 80-year history in Lübeck is proof of the starch and attractiveness of this location - and at the same time an incentive for the future,” says Sebastian Pohl, Managing Director of Greif-Velox. ”We see Lübeck not only as one of our roots, but as a central part of our vision. With further investments and innovative technologies, we not only want to strengthen our market position in the coming years, but also further expand the Lübeck location as Greif-Velox’s center for innovation.”
Greif-Velox celebrates and moves forward
May 13, 2025 will bridge the gap between the past and the future at Greif-Velox: The in-house exhibition “Greif-Velox Connect 2025” will not only celebrate 80 years at the Lübeck site, but will also look ahead: Together with innovative partners, the company will offer a platform for exchange and further development of the packaging machine industry. In addition to live machine presentations and expert talks, companies will be showcasing their latest products.
