Fine-grinding of cellulose

d99 = 63 micron is now feasible with HERBOLD knife pulverisers of the SMF series

For the fine-grinding of cellulose HERBOLD can offer a special series of pulverisers with a high cutting rate. These are knife pulverisers with a high number of revolutions, equipped with rotating and bed knives. The feeding is made by gravity (cellulose sheets) or with a roller feeding device (bales), the end fineness is determined by the size of the screen holes. With intensive research work HERBOLD succeeded in sophisticating the machines so that fineness degrees of d99 = 63 micron can be reached. In the recent past this was only possible with complicated multistep procedures. The high cutting rate between rotor and stator knives and the optimal cooling system of the machine are the main advantages of the HERBOLD pulveriser design. Not only is the air stream of the suction unit used as a cooling device but also the body of the pulveriser is tempered with the help of a water cooling device.
Cellulose with such a degree of fineness can lead to a dust explosion. Therefore Herbold does not only supply single machines but also complete turn-key units equipped with the necessary technique to prevent such an explosion. The described technique can also successfully be used for the fine-grinding of textile and synthetic fibres and for the production of fillers and powders for manifold applications in the food branch, in chemistry and for additives for the building industry.
