Volumetric Microdosing for Powder Dec now offers a much-anticipated solution in the volumetric dosing of small quantities of powder. The product is filled in a calibrated chamber of variable volume by action of vacuum and emptied mechanically either by a piston or by applying pressure. The Micro PTS is based on the PTS technology and allows precise dosing of very small amounts (1 mg) of powder in less than a second, with an accuracy reaching up to 1%. The system is very compact and can be dismantled without tools. Another main advantage is its easy integration into dosing stations with multiple filling systems or products.

PTS Batchmixer The mixing process is an important process in the handling of bulk materials, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, where highly active substances must be mixed as carefully as possible and free of contamination. Choosing the appropriate mixing technology is therefore of paramount importance. The Batchmixer, developed by Dec, is the only mixing system that has no mechanical or moving parts and achieves sophisticated mixing processes. The system is based on the PTS - Technology (Powder Transfer System) and uses vacuum and pressure. A homogeneous mixture by circulation is obtained in a short time. The powder to be mixed, even hygroscopic or explosive substances, is sucked in, circulated for a while in the container and after the mixing process completely emptied. Flexible hoses with system If a medium-carrying link must be movable and easy to extend or replace, hoses and not rigid pipes are the practical choice for that link. If heat losses in the carried medium must be prevented, a combination of hose and electric heating is the ideal solution. This combination is offered by the novel templine heated-hose system from Masterflex AG. The electric heating’s novel design yields significant savings in energy consumption. The templine heated-hose system is notable for having several heat conductors, arranged in a spiral round the medium-carrying hose and secured in stable textile braiding. Consequently, a uniform “heat envelope” is formed all round the medium-carrying hose during use. The temperature differences over the whole length of the hose are extremely slight. The PTS – Powder Transfer System is an exceptionally effective and reliable method of transferring and dispensing both dry and wet powders and granules. Its unique filtration concept with a flat membrane makes it the only vacuum dense-phase system available on the market today, especially designed for reactor charging The PTS challenges convention, using both vacuum and pressure to move powders as if they were liquid, dispensing with the need for gravity charging,making multi floor processes a requirement of the past. The system is a significant enhancement to any process, providing total containment where necessary, but always speeding up production whilst improving safety and hygiene. Batch time can be substantially reduced and existing process steps can be linked to each other. The system can be cleaned and dried in place.

This system enables the final packaging of an API in a contained (< 1 µg/m3) and GMP manner without the requirement of a clean room around the filling area. The system is designed in a way that the contamination of the powder from outside atmosphere or the exposure of the operator is at all times prevented. The discharge of the filter dryer (or other process equipment) is carried out by the PTS Feeder which is installed on load cells. As a leading global provider of powder handling systems to the pharmaceutical, chemical, food and cosmetic industries, we had a strong presence at this important event, with an impressive stand manned by a strong team. This was the first time our newly opened German subsidiary, Dec DeutschlandGmbh, had attended Powtech, so it proved an excellent opportunity to introduce new staff. On display was our globally implemented PTS Powder System, the Contained Bag Station for the safe emptying of bags, the DCS Drum Containment System connected to a PTS Feeder for accurate drum filling, and the Big Bag Emptying station with massaging unit. We also displayed our Flexible Glove Box with integrated Micronizer MCOne and Nanofeeder.

Safe charging of reactors Safe charging of bags of powder via the PTS (Powder Transfer System) to one or more reactors or other receiving vessels in a safe manner providing containment for both the operator and the surrounding environment. The Contained Bag Station combines the advantages of isolation technology and laminar flow technique, providing a high containment of < 1µg/m³ per 8 h TWA. The main chamber is open to the side elevation to enable easy loading of bagged powder. A simple hinged door is provided to be closed only during WIP to prevent splashes escaping the unit. All WIP fluids can be drained from the chamber via the PTS System into the Reactor also cleaning the powder transfer hose and PTS. Using the gloves the operator will move the bag in to position on the powder charging bars above the hopper. The bag is then split and the powder emptied through the bars into the suction hopper.
